Really glad to see more of these, honestly its nice to have someone who cooks and talks to everyone not as a chef, but as regular people. Keifer, I totally understand about the anxiety of not knowing how to cook and not feeling confident enough to try something new. I had a serious illness a few years ago which left me seriously malnourished. Because of that, I began craving, not just any food, but really delicious food! So I gave myself many tutorials on KZfaq and now I am proud to call myself a real chef!!!! And because of my delicious, nutritious food, I have healed my body and I am now healthy!!!! Thank you for encouraging other nervous cooks into being brave enough to try to be creative in the kitchen!!! Once you understand the basics of cooking, you suddenly understand, "it wasn't that hard". "I was being a big baby for NO reason!" and my favourite, "This isn't rocket science!" I met you at Wales comic con on Sunday during the photo ops (i have bright blue hair) and told you I'm really enjoying your cooking video and that stand by me is my favourite movie of all time. There was so much i wanted to tell you but with it being super busy, and you could only have a minute to get through so many people's, that was all i could nervously splutter out lol (thank you for the free cd on the way out!). Stand by me has gotten me through some of most the darkest moments in my life, even just listening to the song (there's an amazing cover by lemmy btw!) Makes me think of the film and I'm happy for the rest of the day. My father and i binged watching 24 together, we bonded so much during that time and are very close, he loves you as jack lol. i love seeing and knowing that "everyone is the same" .. he gets anxious .. he tells us what made him anxious and how he puts those thoughts aside and "trusts in the cooking timing" .. i appreciate that he almost anticipates "our" anxieties about a dish by telling us he's felt the same way and it's going to be ok .. thank you sir :)

We’re retired, surfacing youTube at 4:00am is what we do. So this morning we come across Kiefer Sutherland, that would be you, and some stew recipe. The normal viewing is about woodworking and machine shop practices, today it’s watch some guy, that would be you, make stew. So while telling my bride about your stew, and one awesome kitchen, over coffee this am she tells me we have a Walmart chuck roast in the freeze why don’t you try it, well ok, I tell her. The short story is, your Irish Stew is awesome. Can’t believe how good it is. Wow, that is an excellent meal. Thank you for taking the time you did to record how you made the stew, it really is a wonderful meal. It's 6 AM and I'm watching Keifer Sutherland make beef stew on my phone. If someone would have told me 20 years ago I would be doing this now, I would have thought they were crazy.

My son sent me this. We have been re-watching 24, so I was kind of thinking Jack Bauer ate all his meals foraged and raw. Or conversely, that he didn’t eat at all, since you never see anyone actually get to eat a meal in that show. The closest thing to a meal is a tray that David Palmer never gets to in Season 2.

I was shocked to come up on him cooking. Never watched his shows as I did not care for him as a person. I guess he mellowed with age. I did watch a few of him as Mr. President but none of his other series. He did good in this video.

Just when i thought Jack Bauer couldn't get any cooler, seriously though, i was always a fan of Kiefers but, when 24/7 came out i was in damn action heaven, punching pillows each time he took out one of the bad guys, yelling at the tv lol, never once did i miss an episode. Then playing random country music on you tube while ironing i hear a great raspy voice, peering over at the screen i had to do a double take, was totally blown away by such vocal talent. So now thanks to the randomness of you tube again i bounced from a DIY craft vid to this lol. Mr Sutherland is there anything you can't do, because i highly doubt it. Stew & Dumplings is one of my fav, my mum would cook it every other week and serve it with mash. xxx

Just another interesting fact: When Kiefer talks in the beginning about having everything "ready" before starting, he is referring to mise en place (French pronounced: meese-on-plahs) meaning "everything in it's place". I just learned that 2 weeks ago when I took a class at the Santa Fe School of Cooking.

Wth am I watching and why does it intrigue me? And he is doing everything correctly and had everything "set out", what we chefs call *mise en place* . And that Dutch oven is sublime, Mr. Sutherland. It's so nice to see someone who's wealthy enough to afford a chef's dream kitchen actually use it themselves.

Mise en place is key for anything. I would use beef stock in this, and some tomato paste. Those ingredients will give this more depth of flavour. Also some rosemary will be nice in there. Just my take on this. Chefs I worked with said beef stew needs tomato paste and rosemary. They are best friends they said. I agreed, and also mushrooms and soya sauce instead of the salt is superier seasoning.
