I think that is a great idea. I did that once I reclaimed wood from the bottom of a river that had been sitting there since like 1796 and it was left over from an old bridge. And I had it turned into a deck porch for my late grandparents. And then I did the same thing for some friends of mine in Bakersfield, California but thier's was reclaimed Redwood. I think it is great that people want to reclaim wood and use if for something great and awesome like a guitar.

I own 3 carvins and love them. The quality is excellent right down to the fret work. I like the fact that Carvin doesnt use plastic bindings on beautiful wood. I pick up my carvins over my les pauls and prs guitars. Once I played one, I never looked back.

It's easy enough to do and the guys at Carvin have always been very cool about things like this. I suppose if you gave it to them with no time limit, so they could fit it in around production schedules, you might get a nice guitar back whenever?

At the carvinbbs recently someone had sent in an amazing chunk of wood to have Carvin make into a guitar - I believe there was an upcharge but you would have to talk to them about it to find out what that charge was. All I know is it was a stunning piece of burled mahogany.

I had Carvin build a neck for a bass guitar. It seemed to be taking a long time so I called to find out what happened. The shop foreman called me to tell me that the neck that they built had warped after assembly and that they had to trash it and start over. Having worked with wood for over forty years I knew that things like that could happen. They started over, which took a bit longer, but was worth it in the end. Their quality is first class. If you get a chance to visit them in San Diego you should.

I live in London and spent half my life in the guitar shops in Denmark St. (Tin Pan Alley) and I've never once seen a Carvin guiar, I really want to try one (or several) as they look really nice and well built. You should do a deal with a distributor over here.

Take a look at the configurator on their website, and speak to Dameon at Rock Star guitars. My custom Carvin (cost approx £1400) is far and away the best guitar I've ever played - I mean seriously - better than Fender, Ibanez, Gibson, Kramer, Charvel.
@PrinceWesterburg
@PrinceWesterburg 10 жыл бұрын
HorridFroth I heard 22 years ago that Steve Vai doesn't use Ibanez at all in recording. There is a video on here of his Harmony Hut studio with a wall of Ibanez - while there was someone from outside videoing. If you watch any other recording made there, there are no Ibanez hanging up! Don't get me wrong, Ibanez are great, they ARE the Mazda of the guitar world; They just work and work reliably. But for tone? No*. Cheap basswood, straight grain, kiln dried maple, trems that soak up all you oomph and which are made of dyecast metal with no resonant tone. I have a strat with flame maple neck, mahogany body and original Floyd Rose trem and its like going from a Japanese car to an AC Cobra! Fenders and Gibsons are great for tone but are hugely overpriced and museum pieces. So Carvin do have a place. Oddly, since I wrote the comment above, I was in a CashConvertor and got an Ibanez RG-Something with Edge III Low-Pro trem and a nice full (i.e. not like playing a sheet of paper) U series neck for just £80 and it had a set of Carvin pickups retro fitted. They sound quite unique and are very Zappa'ish. They are a bit Gretsch like, but I can just hear California in the sound all the time - I can only play major scales and smile from ear to ear with that instrument! :o) *And before anyone flames me - I have a lot of guitars (and synths) and I love all of them. They are all different and all great at different jobs. I mean, I have three strats - 50s, 69 era and a 'Texas Hot' Suhr pickup'ed axe and they are all superb, in completely different ways. The Ibanez's are pure late 80s / early 90s fun!

I've gotten 11 custom Carvins done in the last 18 months (and planning 2 more) and have 15 overall. How anyone can't even try one when it's 20% down, all the options you want, get it within 8 weeks at worst and send it back within 10 business days for rebuild or money back if you don't like it plus a dealing with a knowledgeable sales and service staff as a bonus. As I always say, if someone doesn't like Carvin, the chances are good they never tried Carvin.

I own a small construction company and last month I was contracted to tear down an old farm house that had been partially destroyed in a fire. While touring the house, I was in the family room where the fireplace was. The mantle was this old beautiful chuck of mahogany 18" wide, 3" thick and 4' long. I ask the owner if he would mind selling it to me. I gave him $50. Its over 200 years old and no knots. I wonder if I sent it to the Carvin Custom shop if they'd machine it into a guitar like this?

It's just a custom angle mill for a cnc router. I have custom ones made for my machine all the time. I run a Morbidelli universal 20. I cut bodies regularly for several customers. Sometimes up to 200 in a single order. The same thing can be done with a regular 1/2 inch ball nose and multiple passes to create a similar profile- that takes longer on the machine but depending on your cam software it could be just a few clicks. It's not a tool you could use with a handheld router.

I contacted Warmoth and they told me that they will accept customer supplied wood if and only if it is kiln dried and free of defects. I must also waive the right for damage done if they make a mistake, and agree to no time limit. Not a very good prospect. I also contacted Carvin and Fender custom shops. I have not heard from them yet.

+Jesse D Actually, the price is nowhere near any other USA guitars, also made with CNC... CNC is more accurate than any 'handmade' guitar would be...and any true handmade guitar is in the 3500 and greater price range. All for a bit of corksniffery. I'll take accurate over corksniffery any day.
@terrypussypower
@terrypussypower 8 жыл бұрын
+Jesse D Bollocks. You get exactly what you pay for with these guitars. You get CNC where it's utilised best, and you get hand finished, that's the best of both worlds. ALL of the best manufacturers use this method as a way to deliver the best quality for the lowest price. If you want an all hand made solid body these days you're talking at least about 3 times the price of these guitars, and you definitely won't get 3 times as better an instrument.
