I lost my 21 yr old daughter to an accidental overdose 10 years ago. The pain of living with this grief is not describable. She was our only child.

Told my son DO NOT take anything that anyone gives you. Sure enough, a friend of his died of a Fentanyl overdose and that lesson was hammered home.

I lost both my brothers to this horrific disease. They were my older brother's. God rest their souls, please take it one day at a time. Remember we do recover!!!!!!

How many people still remember the days of long term stay-at-home mothers? It could be a father. Having a loving parent there after school, someone who wasn't rushed, over-tired, stressed out. We did not have to become a two-income economy. We were taught that having two incomes would enable every family to be better off. Instead, it caused the cost of living to jump way up. They promised that the kids would be fine! But the kids are not fine.

Our daughter OD’d on alcohol. You reach a point where you realize that it isn’t about whether you did what you could as a mother, but about how much the good times counted. Not only that, but the joy wasn’t just her life, it was mine too. It took three years to get to this place of peace.

3yrs sober had to do it the hard way "prison" but it was the best thing thats happened to me. I finally woke up from what i was doing to myself and had a lot and i mean A LOT of time to reflect on my actions. Prison was the worst place ive been but it also made me open my mind and change my ways so im blessed. Chronic pain Patients who had their pain controlled with long‐​term opioid treatment are being denied treatment or involuntarily tapered off their pain control, as doctors fear arrest and an end to their medical careers. A growing population of “pain refugees” has emerged, with some patients turning in desperation to the black market for opioids and some even turning to suicide. As prescribing rates continue to plunge, overdoses from the nonmedical use of opioids are skyrocketing, now largely caused by illicit fentanyl. The medical mismanagement of pain, which causes harm to patients, is best addressed through the civil tort system. Additionally, states establish professional licensing boards specifically to enforce the “standard of care” rendered by the professionals they oversee. Law enforcement has no medical expertise and should have no say in classifying narcotics and psychoactive substances. Lawmakers should avoid passing or repeal any laws that cast in stone prescribing guidelines released by any state or federal public health agencies. Federal and state law enforcement should be required to get a warrant before perusing state prescription drug monitoring program databases. Law enforcement should be required to report any suspected standard‐​of‐​care deviations to state professional licensing boards for review and adjudication. Neither the practice of medicine nor the act of self‐​medication belongs in the realm of the criminal legal system.

It is heartbreaking. I also wonder if it's worth exploring why so many are looking to escape through drugs. It's a bigger societal issue perhaps?

I was addicted to heroin for 15 years. I have been clean for 35 years now and I thank all the powers there are that Fentanyl didn't exist when I was using because it almost certainly would have killed me. These days when life looks dark the thought of using may cross my mind, then I'll think of Fentanyl and the urge will pass. I want to stress that those moments of thought are very few and all the meetings and help I received at the beginning have made me sure that I will never use again because I don't really want to. Recovery is possible but as my first sponsor said is "You are going to do the hardest thing you have ever done in your life so don't think its going to be easy". I lost many friends to various drugs and I hurt for them all the time, but the past needs to be left behind and my life today is better than I ever thought it could be.

I had a hernia surgery. Before it, they gave me fentanyl. It was the best feeling I’ve ever had, orgasmic. I craved it for days after and I still think about it today. That scared me to hell. I can only imagine how people feel who use this stuff regularly. It’s hard to stop bc of the feeling but it’s so dangerous. Praying for anyone struggling with this.

I am 5 years clean, if I can do it, anyone can. But YOU have to be ready for it. An outreach program JUST stopped by my house maybe 2 or 3 days ago and gave me two boxes of Narcan, I keep one inside my house and the other in car, because YOU NEVER KNOW...I pray for the ones who are still addicted. Stay safe my friend.

My husband and I lost a very close friend, he actually officiated our wedding… he was working on getting his life back. Had a house, good job. We were just down the road. Had no idea he had slipped back in. Took just one week of him lying and “hiding” from us, til the day he died from fentanyl poisoning. Still feels unreal.. I can’t imagine losing my daughter like that. Losing a dear friend felt unbearable… I want to hug everyone affected by this mess..

Seeing all these parents in the comments saying they lost their child to this horrible disease is just shattering. I’m a mom of 4.. who are approaching pre teen age.. not a day goes by that I doing worry about them. My heart goes out to you all. I cannot even fathom the pain. I truly just want to hug each and every one of you.

My grandma woke up on her birthday a few years ago to my uncle dead on her couch. He was in his 30s. He left behind a son who wont remember him but looks just like him. Not being cold but you cant just turn your head and pretend that someone isnt that bad of an addict. You cannot enable them. No one in the family confronted him about it and when I called him out for asking me for money they werent happy. It cannot just be some family "secret" or they will die.

What's equally horrific is the damage done to legitimate pain patients, those who are unable to receive opioid medications due to the addicts amongst us.

What’s also sad is young people will see these stories, see mothers & fathers crying for their babies and some of those youth will still choose to pop a pill with the thought of “it’ll never happen to me….” Until it does.

You've got to start young in training children against drugs and other negative influences that could hurt them. Keep them busy in sports and watch their companions. Dont be afraid to eliminate bad people out of their lives. You're responsible for directing them and protecting them. Be the parent - be the guide - start young. Keep them busy with sports and support their talents. I did all of the above and both of my kids stayed clean, and I'm a great grandparent and my kids are continuing the training. Good luck. It's hard, but do it.

I wish there was something we could do to make this young people understand the pain that comes from addiction. I myself didn't get clean until i was 37 and i was a full addict at age of 16. Think about that i was an addict before i got out of highschool. I used to go to school to get pain pills that kids stole from their parents then skip the rest of the day. I now have 3 years clean time on July 21st.

And day 1 that he told me we got him into a treatment program. Twice. He keeps leaving and he knows exactly what he's getting and knows the risk. Now he refuses to talk to me I pray to God to send my son a angel to watch over everyone with this addiction.

Addiction is relentless. I’ve seen alcoholism ravage my family generationally but the hardest thing was to see my baby brother become addicted to opioids overnight and then my dad. Some of the hardest times in my life. I know we are lucky because they did find sobriety. But that wasn’t without experiencing the trauma that came along with it first. I’m also thankful for alanon. This program has helped change my life in that I understand now that the disease of addiction is generational and by understanding this hopefully I can help to mitigate the pass down of addiction and the generational trauma it produces.

My sister was addicted to opioids. She ordered them on the internet. As a nurse and aware of the risks and dangers I told her they use fentanyl and other things. She would always say well it looks the same and I would explain what they do. She died a yr ago the tox showed trank and fentanyl and other things. This is a horrible disease and threat.

Untreated trauma is one of the BIGGEST reasons why these things happen. A lot of families will put on a great front when it comes to these media based programs. Social media perpetuates this, and if people are that inept to think that local and big governments aren't hand in hand with this...well... there's really no helping many that are in denial about it.

I love how authentic and straightforward all the Interviewees are. The anxiolytic and sedative properties of Opioids are what exacerbate dependence/addiction. The effects of antidepressants take too long to appear, they are expensive, and they are difficult to obtain, whereas opioids are available in every city/town/street, even to teenagers.

I just couldn't handle what these Mums have been through...I truly couldn't...Such brave women... I'm so proud of my kids & thier choices, you see in thier early lives ,I was thier lovely Mum but by the time the eldest started senior school I became an addict & my kids saw everything....sounds rough but it gave them an absolute education in2 the world of drugs. My way out of addiction fell through ..but One thing that never died during my addiction was the love & care 4 my children.. Somehow I managed through addiction to keep on being mum all be it not a perfect one..I 'm not advising it for any Mum but out of the negativity came the positive, My kids av steered clear of drugs , even the legal one, alcohol & just embrace every good and wonderful thing in life, thier days are filled wiv fun & love & they have empathy & compassion 4 all life...I feel so sorry 4 these women...Grief & Mourning adds a dimension we're never prepared 4..I hear God has made a promise 4 everyone to see thier loved ones again...Sometime in this Universe ,I hope that promise is fulfilled 4 these Mums & anyone that has lost a child😢❤xx

There are NO inpatient facilities ANYWHERE in the US that aren’t full and those that aren’t full are TOO EXPENSIVE. What is being done with the money the cops recover when they arrest the dealer thugs?!! That money should go to the kids who those dealers got addicted so they can get treatment.

I lost my best friend to an accidental overdose. He was studying for finals and was about to graduate college… he used addy to help study.. usually he crushed and snorted it. Long story short… the girl he was hanging out with had fentanyl on her coffee table for which he confused with addy… he blew a line and overdosed.. Just like that my best friend is gone. Fuck this drug.

I'll never forget the last time I shot up so far, waking up on the bathroom floor with the needle still in my arm, thinking "Oh shit, I did it again." That was December 17, 2018, so almost five years ago and I haven't even seen any fentanyl or Heroin since then. I still really miss it sometimes, especially since I started working out about a year ago, so my veins really stick out on my arms now. I was just telling my friend about the last time I was really strung out on dope, which was back in like the spring and summer of 2017. I had a pretty decent job at the time, but I was so strung out that I would always lie to my boss about having a doctor appointment, then go and score, shoot up in the Kroger bathroom and pass out there for a while until my boss called me and woke me up, and I went back to work and proceeded to shoot up there and pass out in my cubicle. I don't know if I really thought people couldn't tell or if I just didn't care. I think at the end, I was doing about a few hundred dollars' worth every day, and like $75 worth in one shot sometimes. I was so reckless; I didn't care if I lived or died. I just wanted more dope and accoutrements. I'm especially proud of myself for not relapsing last summer, because it was awful. I was engaged and had my job for years until then, but my dad died, my fiance ghosted me for another guy, and I got fired from my job in about a four week time frame in the summer of 2022. I was so depressed that I couldn't eat or sleep, and I broke down crying uncontrollably about a hundred times a day. Exercising has really helped me emotionally, but I still really miss my dad and my ex. My grandma just died last month, so that's been making me pretty sad again. On the bright side, I know that my dad would be proud of me for not relapsing over his death, and I got in shape, and I have been at my job for almost a year now, and I still have my amazing, cute dog in my profile picture with me.

Im impressed of why nobody is asking the most important question: why? Why usa kids are turning to drugs. What are they looking for or running away from. That I think is the key. To search on the root of the necessity. But instead the keep focusing on the drug dealers “drug dealers does not care about who die” well yes. We already know that. Lets focuse on what is important: the root of the search for an escape. The mental and emotional state of these kids before they reach for drugs. And no, Im not blaming the parents.

I completed rehab in 2022, and my father still has no idea about what I go through daily as an addict in recovery. Family members have no idea and the only way for them to understand is to attend meetings and things similar in nature.

When I lived in the US my kids were young and most of my colleagues said as soon as their kids went to high school they were moving. They were terrified of raising teenagers in US even expensive private schools access to drugs was easy and one of our friends said he regrets ever moving to US during his childs teenage years he is 20 yrs later still in and out of rehab. Its terrifying. o where is drug free but access should really be limited somehow

Instead of cracking down on drug dealers and the war on drugs we need to figure out free mental health care services. Drugs are always going to be around, but if someone gets the help they need for their mental health, if it’s depression, a lack of motivation, no friends, whatever the struggle is if they get help and make connections the desire to numb out won’t be there. The opposite of addiction is connection. Harm reduction and mental health services/rehab are the only way to navigate these scary waters. Not the war on drugs, that’s just a cash grab

I'm pretty shocked that the nurse didn't get Narcan before letting her son have a friend over. I have it in my car. And I don't even have an addict in my local family.

They still don't got it, they all blame the dealer's and say it's all just down to greed!!! WRONG! It's society, life, pressure, escape, sadness, unhappiness, anger, resentment, trauma, boredom, excitement, and everything in between.

I was on drugs for a long time. My own mother would find me in states of absolute catatonia. My own mother couldn't've stopped me from getting high and that is how it goes. It's only you who can stop you from doing drug's. It's upsetting cause the users of Fent' are mostly first time users and that is where things get tricky. Its the user who has never done drugs before, now decides to mess with the worst of the lot. If you are learning to count, you don't start with billion and trillion, you have to learn to crawl before you can run. Nowadays getting really high safely is a possibility and it can even be cheap. Most importantly it wont get you killed. There is no advice you can give to a user to stop or even try a different drug, all you can do IS all you can do and in some instances all you can do is stand back and watch as someone you love kills themselves. Those who have died are gone, let them go. Its more important to look after those who are alive then those who are dead.

I lost both my brothers, my cousin, a brother in law and my daughters mother is out there in active addiction. It ruins families, the individual, and society as a whole. There are so many contributing factors that drive ppl to addiction and one of them is for sure childhood trauma, trauma period and the mental pain from their past. Fathers be present in your home, spend as much time with your children as you can show them love, guidance, give them structure, sports, music, art. LOVE

When I was a kid Wine & much less potent weed were the drugs kids experimented with. I was in a friend group that didn't, but the kids who did suffered consequences like detention or trouble with parents. None died. Today experimentation carries the consequence of death. The screams of Jay's mom on that 911 recording describe this horror no words can. Condolences to the families.

So what about terminally i’ll cancer patients? Or life threatening traumatic injuries? Should a surgeon be allowed to operate on a person without anesthia? I don’t think so! Fentanyl legally prescribed by an oncologist is not a problem! These medications have legitimate medical purposes!

This is not just about addiction. Society is broken. Sadness, anxiety, pain, loss, grief... The world is fucked up. Nobody can afford to do anything but just get by. there are limited oppertunities. Covid messed up our ability to socialize normally.. as if it wasnt already on life support. People are feeling the hurt, on a grand scale. A lot of people just treading water, directionless. The explosion of drug abuse and ODs should come as no surprise when you have this kind of widespread,universal malaise.

There should be a database for all fentyanyl related overdose deaths available to physicians. This video was designed very well. I live in Seattle, so I see it every time I go out my door.

My daughter also died from a fentanyl overdose. She was a grown woman. All I could do was scream when they told me. I never wanted to be in the fentanyl overdose, adult children that died from a fentanyl overdose club etc. Losing a child how ever old or manner of death is a pain that no one but another parent that's lost a child can understand. It is a grief that you never get over all you can do is hope to get through it with your sanity . And you will never be the same. You'll never be 100% happy again because your child is gone. Forever.

I feel for the nurse but the way she talks about how her kid “should have gone to university” and how he “ isn’t the same kid” really irks me. These high expectations for him are probably one of the reason he got into drugs in the first place and to air all his issues out like this I don’t think is healthy and if that was me I know it wouldn’t have helped at all.

I'm 65 now and when I was a teenager back in the 70's I never knew anyone who took dangerous drugs it just goes to show how life has changed over the years. My heart is broken for all those parents that have lost a child through drugs. I'm sure a lot more can be done to educate young people against drugs, lets hope that we can win the battle. In Baltimore city where I live all the people I know that are dying have fentanyl, and xylazine which is a tranquilizer. I did a little to much a few nights ago and sat down on my bed with a plate of food. I passed out and woke up at 11:30 pm laying back on my bed with the plate of food on my chest. I`m more surprised my dog didn`t eat the food that I didn`t die. I`m on methadone so I have a high tolerance. They gave me Naloxone at my clinic, and my mother told me to throw it away because if I go out that`s it. It was meant to be. Watching this is making me want to go get some right now.

Ive lived in Fresno for 43 years and watched it go from a small cowboy town into a big city over the years. Ive had a few friends die over the years including my best two friends who both died this last year from fentynal. My brothers and I all dabbled in different drugs and alcohol growing up but we never got into opiods. Mainly because my grandfather was a doctor and he educated us about the certain things that we needed to watch out for while we were growing up. The way to save your children isnt about kicking their doors in and treating them like criminals because your worried about them. That will only gurantee that they stop being open with you and increase their chances of resorting to drugs. The only way is to educate yourself and take preemptive actions to educate them before they ever come into contact with the drugs on the street. When i came into contact with opiods on the street there was no way that i would ever take them because i already knew all about them. There was no convincing me and the drug dealers knew right away that i was serious and that they needent waste their time trying to sell me anything. You have to educate yourself and then educate your children. Its the only way to do it.

People must come to the realization that, they can not escape from the realities of life by consuming drugs and opioids in their system unnecessary in many cases.

I'm lucky that the only addiction that I have is going to the gym 3x a week and jogging for 5 km 2x a week. I pray for the inflicted family and may their child get a speedy recovery from these horrible afflictions.

My brother died in 2016 to a carfentanyl OD, disguised as a Xanax, he was a heroin addict, discovered in the bathroom by my mother, the opening scene was harrowing, I’ll never forget the call “he’s DEAD HES DEAD” you don’t believe it. You never give up hope until they’re gone. If you’re in addiction and reading this I hope you love yourself more than the mistress you serve for it only kills and takes from you any chance of getting better. Some of you don’t want to get better, I wish you peace. Know you family will never ever ever recover from your loss and God loves you, you are worth it ❤

This was very informative and educational. I worked at a jail in the countyI live in and we had to wear gloves (no one had to tell me, I wore them) especially when searching the property coming in. It saddens me to see people play Russian Roulet with their lives. My deepest condolences to the parents who lost their child euro this drug.

I'm a control freak so I tend to abstain from things that will make me a slave to substance. I would be amazed by people who popped an Advil when they experienced mild discomfort. It just seems a lot of people can't tolerate pain and look to escape it immediately. You couldn't even get me to take Midol when I had bad cramps and my mom would ask me why I wanted to suffer. But it was because I was in control of the suffering. Addiction really perplexes and terrifies me. I see these videos and imagine how different things could have been if I was wired differently.

My condolences and prayers go out to all the parents and families who have lost their children to this awful crisis. I have a daughter and she's 15 our only child my world my life. I educate and pray for her wellbeing from drugs and aicohol . I would literally die if something happened to her.

Is it only me or they are tackling drugs the wrong way again? Still, they are chasing the source but ignoring why these kids get into something so strong in the first place. Why children are in so much pain? If society doesn't change, these horrible drugs will keep surfacing. We are all sick at this stage and, hopefully, we can all get the help we need.

It's a life long commitment.. I'm 46, had 8 years clean and now I'm back full time an addict, and there's no herion in Philly, it's all fentanyl. I went to 10 rehabs 2 years ago in NJ and I'm not even aloud back to 2 of them and I only have 3 options w my state insurance!! Feel trapped and stuck right now... really sucks

I’m 60 years old and I have suffered from constant pain for the past 10 years and before than from moderate pain since the age of 11. I have had four hip replacements and I have scoliosis and the only time I took a narcotic was immediately after surgery. I suffer everyday yet I refuse narcotics because I’m afraid to get addicted. I also suffer from anxiety and the doctor prescribed Xanax and I don’t take that for the same reason. I just pray to my god to help me tolerate the pain because I would rather die than to be addicted to the poison that is narcotics. I pray for all those people that were not strong enough to stay away from the poison and for all who have died Rip. You mattered and your life was precious. Once this happened only once and I stopped breathing I had no idea what I was doing and I wish I only knew how I lived when I wasn’t breathing 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was saved and spent 3 days in the hospital I never do drugs

This is so tragic! What is driving such hopelessness in our children / young adults to play ‘Russian Roulette’ with their life? My heart aches for our children. Lord help!
