Anyone know where that fan art is from? I miss the oldschool KI. I don't like the modern Microsoft KI, it's too Americanized. I prefer the British Marvel comics look that KI 1 & 2 character designs had.

ah yes, I remember Killer Instinct, the only character I could pull off an Ultra Combo was Orchid. even had it on the SNES and played people via the early internet through the Xband modem. "mess with the best, die like the rest." XD

I have to say that Killer Instinct had amazing presentation that just drew you into playing the game. It was 50p a go or 3 plays for £1 much more than what I was used to paying 10p per play on Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo but it was worth it I loved the game.

KI1 made many people forget SF2 even existed when it was in the arcades. I wish I was better at games back then. I was way better with charge based characters because they were easier to use.

My favorite fighting series ever. The newest one on XBox One is really friggin awesome despite having been out for years it still looks Great Plus you can get the game for free with Jago as the permanently free character. Once i tried it i bought the thing to get access to the rest of the roster.... It's probably cheaper now to buy a physical copy if you can, unless the full digital version is on sale 😄👍

It’s amazing what devs can do when they actually take pride in their work and concentrate and aren’t rushed. KI looks better than MK on Gameboy. Still amazing that KI on the SNES was as impressive as it was.

I didn't catch all of it but I rarely see mentioned some of the Arcade KI glitches. You could drag down the CPU (or something) with a janky Glacius Combo. Something like HeadBut Heavy Kick linking into a combo that ended with his light strength fireball. You could go get a drink and come back after doing this combo it dragged so long. Which I did a few times.

I remember it being called Project Reality. N64 (Project Reality) was so hyped many of us were expecting Terminator 2 graphics. We didn't see Terminator 2 graphics until the PS3 era lol. Still, the N64 holds a special place in my heart.

@Lucifer In Hell KI is a fun game but I don't know if I'd say better than both MK and SF honestly but it's definitely a classic but hey to each his own man. I was annoyed that KI 2013 took out the finishers that the previous games had. A lot of people want to see MK vs KI since KI is probably one of the few gaming series that is nearly as dark and gritty as MK, not many games are lol since MK is hardcore these days like even more than the 90's.

I love that the game was purposefully the loudest game in any arcade at the time and if you got an ultra combo everyone would have heard it. That is a power move.

Those KI2 character models look really similar to how the Primal Rage 2 characters look in the unreleased build of the game. Tusk looks like he actually belongs in that game more than Killer Instinct 2, granted Primal Rage 2 should never have been considering human'ish fighters in a game famous for fantasy dinosaur brutality.😅👍

When compared to other fighting games on the Playstation from 1995 or 1996, Killer Instinct Gold looks very good in comparison. 3D arenas with neat polygonal graphics instead of flat bitmap panoramas like in Tekken 2. The silicon graphics character models still look unique when compared to low polygon models of Tekken 2. And the fast paced arcade style fighting mechanics are still something to be seen. Maybe some people could not make any sense of silicon character models set in polygon arenas? I don't know. That is nothing my mind couldn't handle.

I got this on the N64 around a month before release. My local market game stall had copies via their friends at distribution. I never really noticed the graphical differences at the time but yeah they're incredibly noticeable now Still playing it though! ;)

Unfortunately, Rare was bought by Microsoft. Also, development of new PS4 games is starting to wind down as focus is shifting away from the PS4 towards supporting the PS5.

I never understood why they wanted 2d fighters to die out. I mean they could have upped the quality of the textures and I always imagined a 3D lighting system which could read a sprite and workout the topography so that it could be lit as if 3d. I also loved the idea of 2.5D where the sprites are 2D but the background is completely 3D

Gamepro: "the console port, with clearly less powerful hardware, has a lower frame rate than the original console cabinet." Even for Gamepro, i wasn't expecting such a small brain take; even for back in 1995.
