I get what you're saying here...but I sincerely think you need to hang with a different breed of black men if seeing two of them debate education of black children brings a tear to your eyes. There are plenty of black men you can engage in personally via volunteering, advocacy, etc who care about this not to mention political channels that have black professionals discussing this all of the time. Let's please stop putting radio personalities and entertainers on a pedestal they don't belong on. I guarantee you that DJ Envy has NEVER studied education policy or any longitudinal studies done on urban education. So why are we looking to him as a person with something legit to say about it? Killer Mike at least I can expect to have done some research because he has a track record as a political activist.

Whew Chile, as a black male educator with two degrees...This interview has me triggered...I’ve taught in public, private, charter. Killer mike spoke no lies, public schools are and have the ability to be the BEST institutions for our children but we give up on them. I’ve taught kids who lack pride and confidence because they knew society viewed their school as less than. So they cultivate a less than mentality, they come to school and act out because they’re afraid to be challenged by people who they think don’t care about them. Then we have turn over because the teachers can’t handle them, then they have to hire anybody who is willing to stay more than a few months...It’s the mentality and lack of support NOT the schools themselves..

@@nandawalker9660 I'd argue we need more committed parents. I'm a teacher, raging black, living on the other side of the country down in Southern California. But my school district (San Bernardino City Unified) is in the poorest city of its size IN THE UNITED STATES. And it's not hard to tell which kids have a shot. They're the ones with parents showing up not to fight with the school, the teachers, the administrators, but embarrassed because their kids are being disrespectful. Kinda how it used to be growing up. If the parents aren't enforcing things at home in terms of prioritizing education, seeking out help if they aren't able to (a common problem)...kids aren't stupid. The balance of power is in their favor in today's education system. So if parents aren't doing their job, what's a teacher going to say to them. I'm as committed as anyone, but my mentor was a big burly black man with a doctorate named Joe Parks. And he taught us 12 years ago that no matter the teacher, in a class of 30, there are three students that excel regardless of what you do, and there are three students that fail no matter what you do. You are defined by the 24 students in between. And it's true. People wanna get mad, but it's true. I can't be more committed to your future than you are. Or your parent(s) are. The joy of what I do is seeing the kids who just needed someone to believe in them, grow. But they wanted more, they just didn't know how to get it.

Envy is 100% WRONG! Most people do NOT want to be millionaires. MOst people want to do exactly what Killer Mike said...comfortable, below the debt line, able to pay their bills on time, and leave something for their children once they pass. That's it. $90,000 a year would keep me happy. Not everyone enjoys hustling, most people like to know what money is coming in and what to expect. Trust me, most people don't have the entrepreneurial mindset....a low percentage of people. Self pride, taking accountability for one's self actions, and making the most of your situations is how you succeed. Period. You don't need to go to Private school to do that.

Maly Roberts I have 6 siblings my dad worked his ass off as a public BD school teacher in Maywood, IL to send us all to private grade school and high school. Real parents sacrifice to get their kids the best education possible (see:Asians) NOT SAY, “well I pay taxes so I’m going to send my kid(s) to a shit public school.” Killer Mike sounded like a complete idiot for that.

I received the best education at a black private school for 3 years, 2 years of preschool and kindergarten. When I transferred to a major white county, they wanted to hold me back because they said my previous education was inferior to theirs. I had to take multiple tests to prove that I was at the first grade level. I could read, add, subtract, multiply, and write cursive in kindergarten. My teacher had to pull me to the side and tell me I can't write in cursive because the other kids didn't know cursive. My family didn't participate in Halloween, but we had to write a story about Halloween. I wrote a story that my first grade teacher pulled me to the side and told me I wrote the best story that she read. She had me write my story in ink (which was a big deal back then). They thought black education was inferior, but in my experience, it was superior.

Most people WON'T be millionaires anyway. I know it's the in thing to talk about getting there but America in particular isn't set up like that. Forbes out out a study that 65% of the HAVES were BORN in it. You'd think people would know that but no. People really think that most of the country is just lazy vs the design that is in place. We have the exceptions and the rule, yet people all think they'll be the exceptions. I guess you have to tell yourself something but when they get done, most people will not be rich. I dunno how much more proof we need to believe it.

We literally have to raise these kids in the classroom, I have been teaching SENIORS who read at a 5th grade level and have had them go up 7-8 grade levels in literacy. If you feel public school teachers are bad then you should take the INITIATIVE to get that teacher fired, vote in a new school board or take the initiative to make sure your child comprehends the subject matter to the fullest extent. Taking students from public schools does NOTHING but worsen the school due to lack of funding. Instead of taking children out, VOTE for school board or invest in someway in the public school ex. tutoring, PTA MEETINGS !

@rockthecasbah493
@rockthecasbah493 5 жыл бұрын
ElAminNews sweNnimAlE - TED Talk’s are speeches/presentations on Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Who is the white daddy you’re talking about? Because I’ve seen every race/nationality say something interesting while using TED Talk as a platform. There are many black/ethnic people who watch TED Talks for information. There are also black people who PRESENT and do speeches too. He’s a very smart and intelligent man. Why shouldn’t black viewers be able to watch more people who look and talk like them?! And not just black people, but all people. Listening, analyzing information, and then coming to a conclusion is a how person changes their mindset. Him speaking on there would be positive. No matter what way you look at it. To educate our people & also chin check some chumps.. why not?! On TED Talk.. People talk about all types of things.. including experiences. It would be an opportunity for more people to hear his message, especially black people. The working class or “I’m rich so I made it” blacks like Envy who need a reality check. Not everyone will hear this interview - who NEEDS to hear it because it’s on The Breakfast Club. And not everyone is a fan of radio. You’re apart of the problem. Stop being so closed minded. Who do you think owns the radio that airs The Breakfast Club?! WHITE DADDY. Who did he try to get a loan from for crip cola? WHITE DADDY. If that’s the case blacks wouldn’t be able to do any type of business or have their voices heard anywhere because WHITE DADDY has infiltrated and dominated every part of society. The Black Community has to wake up.. the culture will have to brush shoulders with white people no matter where we go or what we do. They own EVERYTHING. And we can’t “buy our blocks back” 9/10 without doing business with them BECAUSE OF the end of segregation. Did you even listen to the interview?! Bye!

I agree. I'm from NYC and making it here means your a millionaire. So comfort is not a word thrown around bc people come here to be more that just comfortable. when you grow up in that your view is that everyone wants to be a millionaire. I had to get outside of NYC to realize that's not true. But envy dont seem like a person who like his views challenged

Killer Mike's knowledge should be taught in high school so the kids don't have the pressure from going ghetto broke to millionaire. Dj Envy's knowledge should be taught in college. After having Killer Mike's base, shoot for being a millionaire. Both have valid points.

I keep seeing comments retracting being a "millionaire". First of all, being a millionaire isn't a lifestyle status, it's your total net worth of what you have in cash, what you have in stocks/bonds/investments, and what you have in property (not just how much cash you have). It doesn't mean have millions to spend on cars and crap. Secondly, if you calculate what it's going to take to live from age 60-85, accounting for health care costs, taxes and inflation, the whole idea is to put away enough money to live on so when you physically can't or don't want to work, you have money to take care of yourself. Understand what it means to be a millionaire to begin with...it's not "rapper lifestyle", it's just the total of your investments, cash, and ownership, and you want that number as high as possible. It's also having a ton of money to give to worthy charitable causes (what an idea-giving!) Most millionaires became that from their 401k and investing throughout their working years, not rapping and sports and living frivolously and flexing on the Gram.

I have never wanted to be a millionaire mike is right I just want to be comfortable and do something I love.....I come from a working class family and am the youngest of 11.....we all went to public school and we all graduated from college..we never yearned to be rich we never yearned to forget where we came from all we ever wanted was to take advantage of the opportunities that our parents suffered to give us and build a better life for ourselves and our children so they wouldn't struggle like we did....coming from a migrant background and working the fields every summer build up a strong sense of character and humility and in reality all we ever wanted was to give back to the community and help future generations achieve their aspirations. I have four sisters that are public school teachers, two brothers that are public school teachers, one brother thats a middle school principal, one brother that is a state trooper and I myself am about to receive a masters in library science..I see envy's point in this but Killer Mike described my family to a T....We all make a great living .....a living that public school provided and we all found careers that give back to that and we are happy and sane:) and just delighted to serve a purpose and give back to our community .....

For anyone who didn't grow up in Atlanta or has never been to the A, it is completely different not growing up and not seeing YOUR people doing well. For that reason I agree with Envy. My wife is from Atlanta and went to Mays and out of her crew 1 is an MD, 1 PhD, on a Nurse, and 1 a pharmacist. Her 3 best friends not from ATL have PhDs and her brother is a lobbyist. Seeing black people own businesses and drive Benz and Bentleys on a common occurrence goes a long way. I never saw that growing up in Chicago.
