I recently installed a pulley system to raise and lower my trolling motor on my Ascend 128T fishing kayak and I LOVE it!!! I think you will too when you see how easy it is to install. This is by far one of the most useful mods that I've installed on my kayak. Check it out!!

I used a bungee cord for locking the shaft of the motor in place too, instead of tying it I used heavy duty zip ties. I started loose and worked my way up to the right spot. Todd Ferrante on KZfaq has a different way of doing this

Nice video. I came up with a simple way that doesn't require any modifications to the locking mechanism. Just had to drill a hole through the lever and used a pulley I had purchased from home depot :)
@FlintHillCatfishing
@FlintHillCatfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Great idea man! I thought of the same thing I was trying to avoid drilling it, but I think that’s gonna be the best way to go in the long run because there is so much tension when using the bungee that I don’t think the glue is going to hold overtime. It’s worked so far, but I think your idea would be a better long-term solution. Thanks!

Great video. My kayak is setup to pull the motor straight up with a rope behind the seat. Maybe a weight lifter would make that work but the weight of is way too much for me. So I want to redo it using your idea, but do you transport your kayak with the motor on it? Removing it for transport doesn’t look like an option.

I'm going to find a way to have that lift cable also release the stop on the pivot. So that way when I pull the cord to lift the trolling motor, I also release the lock tab at the same time. There's got to be a way to do it.

Great content! 2 questions, is it better to keep the motor unlocked instead of locked in case you bump something? That way nothing is damaged or there’s less damage then if it is locked down. Also do you have to register/title the boat now that it’s no longer paddle/man powered? I have a motor on mine and have been trying to figure out the regulations. Can’t wait to see you out there and take a closer look at your yak!
@FlintHillCatfishing
@FlintHillCatfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. For your first question, yes keep it unlocked most of the time. I only lock mine when I am floating down a river and trying to slow myself down to fish certain parts of the river. For your second question yes you do have to register the boat if you put a trolling motor on it, not the Motor, just the boat. In South Carolina it’s only like $20. I called DNR in my state to confirm the regulations. I would encourage you to do the same just to be sure. I have a lot of fishing videos with me using Trolling Motor and it’s awesome, take some time to check them out. Thank you for watching!

If you haven’t seen the video on my channel of my trolling motor install, go check it out and It will answer a lot of questions for you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. This is the best mod I’ve ever done to my kayak, it opened up so many different ways to fish that I haven’t been able to do previously simply by paddling. Also, I have it set up with a foot pedal steering system so that I am hands-free. Here’s the link to the video… kzfaq.info/get/bejne/idCcqap1rbvXZnU.html

I’m not really sure Matthew… It was a piece of stainless steel that One of my friends had in their shop so we fabricated it to work. I would say stepping out on a limb… That if you went to a machine shop and had them fabricate it it would probably cost $50-$100 stainless steel

Dang Steve… I should’ve said this in the video but I didn’t think about it.... when I use the gorilla glue tape, I take a heat gun on low heat and just heat The object up just a tad that I am putting on the kayak, but I do it while The object is still in my hand. The heat causes the tape to get a little softer and the tape get softer so adheres really well but is still removable. I also heat the surface of the Kia where I’m gonna mount it just a touch just to get warm. I hope your product works out feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions and I’ll try to help

@FlintHillCatfishing
@FlintHillCatfishing 3 жыл бұрын
@@Van50van i’m not sure what kind of epoxy you’re referring to, but I probably wouldn’t use any kind of liquid glue or epoxy on the surface of my kayak. That would make it pretty ugly if it dried and had to take it back off. But I may not be understanding what you were talking about. One other thing that I have done before that does not include the gorilla glue tape......I have used plain old duct tape to secure whatever I was positioning on the kayak and it works Just fine. I only used the gorilla tape because I had some at the house. I tried it and it works fine. I just really like to do a non-permanent dry fit to all my accessories before I drill holes and bolt them down to the kayak. Thanks for watching man!!!
