I’m really glad that someone is doing a decent review of the real world applications and uses for this. I’ve thought about this for preamps+ console 2buss line returns for mixdowns. I still have trouble finding if the line signals go thought the transformers, I’m assuming they do, but this was a helpful video.

I have one of those and I love it. The only issue is that it does not direct monitor the adat channels. You can only do that for the two preamps from the unit itself, and for direct monitoring the adats you need to do that from the DAW, but that's not that HUGE of an issue either. Great video btw!

Got mine a few days ago, to go with my 8801 and 8803, AWESOME bit of kit!!! 😁😁😁 The 88R preamps are INCREDIBLE!!!! The just have so much vibe and sound AMAZING!!! To compare it with something like The Apollo, which IS a sterling bit of kit for sure, but the 88M can also be used standalone for its Preamps, it's not totally reliant of software so it will NEVER go out of date either.. cool eh! 🥰🥰

Love the channel. I bet a dollar that if you routed the mic to the Neve and the Apollo, or even a Focusrite, and compared the same recording through each preamp, you would not hear a discernible difference in sound.

There’s noticeable different in the low end for me. That said any of them could work. And I tried to say that in the review. It comes more down to functionality and versatility and portability. Figure out what has the features you need for your own use case.

It definitely doesn’t sound like my rack of vintage neve stuff. The new neve stuff is different. As long as you don’t expect it to sound like a 1073… Because it’s not a 1073 the 88 series stuff is definitely its own thing. That said, it’s not a bad thing

@@RecordingStudioLoser I definitely agree about the 1073 being different to the 88. I own several of the modern 88's, and they have a more subdued low end compared to the former. I would also agree about the vintage 1073's and the current iterations. I own many of both. I actually prefer my modern ones over my vintage units. Anyhow if these Neve 88m interface preamps do sound like my actual standalone 88's then I'm willing to give these a chance due to the portability and general quality for the price and compact size.

Is anyone experiencing core audio dropouts on MAC OS with the Neve 88M? The 88M appears in Apple's Core Audio, but no sound is coming out of the DAW or the Mac’s audio routed into the Neve 88M. The only way to resolve this issue is to disconnect and reconnect the USB-C cable. Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

@@RecordingStudioLoser I tested several computers, including the MacBook Pro M3 Max running Sonoma 14.4.1, and the Intel MacBook Pro 2017 running OS Catalina 10.15.7. On both I experienced issues with the Neve 88M audio dropping out. However, the MacBook M1 running Sonoma 14.4 had the most stable performance. I even connected it to my MPC Live - working without a single glitch. After browsing Apple forums, I followed a suggestion to delete the com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup file from the Library/Preferences. This appeared to fix the Neve 88M performance of the MacBook Pro M3 Max running Sonoma 14.4.1, as it only had one audio drop during a day-long test. However, I plan to conduct further testing to confirm this improvement. Despite these issues, I love the sound quality, which aligns with your review.

Please, the interface is not a "unit" in any useful sense. The abuse of this word has overwhelmed music-gear discussion. Better just to grunt and to gesture. Otherwise, the video was very good, leaving out the Behringer shout, twice, which is a major ethical lapse. So maybe don't leave that out. Ugh. While I'm at it, the ipad is a computer.

Ignoring the bulk of this incoherent rant, I’ll skip down to the end, and the strange complaint about this reviewer listing iPads as being ‘separate’ in the series from computers. Don’t you feel it’s helpful to inform an audience that a unit such as this is compatible with those different devices? Because they do have different operating systems, just to mention one factor. It is always valid to list the iPhone, iPad, and desktop/laptop computers as independent items when discussing compatibility. No one needs an exposition about how they are all ‘computing’ units. Please address any fine or censure notifications regarding my overuse of the word “unit” to my attorney-Tim-at Dewey, Chatham, and Howe.

I’m not sure I could address anything besides the behringer comment. I said I would use my Behringer P16, which I’ve had for 14 years. @bitegoatie
@bitegoatie 7 ай бұрын
@@CentaurusRelax314 Feel free to ignore it all. It's a video comment, man - you know, for the algorithm. As for incoherent, it isn't. I asked for an interface to be called something at least correct, like "box" if not "interface". This seems understandable enough. "Unit" simply does not apply, and saying other losers make the same error doesn't make it any less of an error or any less unhelpful in determining which thing is being called a "unit" at any moment. At a couple of points we had multiple nonunits being referred to as "unit" in the same breath. I complemented the video, then remembered the comments about the cancer on the music-gear industry. To the loser's credit, he bought his thing before most people knew what a POS company it is, or on how many levels. Then again, he didn't specify in the video what POS-company product he was talking about, much less the era of its purchase. Lastly, pads are computers. They happen to be easily mobile, hamstrung computers. I had no problem with mentioning the different kinds of computers, and I didn't suggest he should not mention different uses for the interface. Where did you find an "exposition" on computing devices? Two of the comments address clear communication, and one a POS company. Yes, I was brief, but I suspect the complaints would be worse if I had gone on longer, because people don't want to read in comment sections, yet sort of do read anyway. If you found this stuff incoherent, I have to say you probably read too quickly and misunderstood. Maybe splitting the thoughts with carriage returns would help, so I have tried that here.

@@bitegoatie It’s “incoherent” because of your awkward phrasing, illogic, ridiculousness, overwrought handwringing over the innocuous, etc. Your obsession with “unit” is baffling, but serves as prelude to the subsequent oddities. And, again, the iPad vs Computer issue is just wrong. But, whatever-you come across like the kind of fellow that would be dangerous to offend further.
