I love Shadowdark adventures expressly because they tend not to need months for the party to trek through (especially not when using them as they are for Shadowdark), and because they rarely are the sort of thing that the players can brute-force with super over-powered characters with video game style menus of the same attack to be used over and over again. If you want to survive you're going to have to be clever and maybe a little lucky too. That's what gives them that sword and sorcery vibe. One of these is going to be about two hours for my players, which means I've got a little time before and after for weaving it into any overarching story lines, perfect!

I like the fact these adventures are so short, it fits the Conan theme, the kind of thing that happens to him whilst on the way somewhere or fleeing from somewhere and turns into far more than he expected and probably the main story too! Also great to have things like this to drop in on journeys as distractions that could turn into something more. I really liked Slumbering City and have planned on grabbing a load of these ever since reading it.

Yeah, they fit the theme and vibe so well! Some of the best S&S adventures I've read, in that regard.

I liked their last KS agreed it did have some issues and yeah he did send everyone a ton of extra stuff one shots but good stuff. Super easy to print out at home and just have in a folder somewhere to drop whenever you want. Easy way for no prep if you were busy 😁

8:17 I think it doesn't tell how many charges it has it seems like an adventure (and staff) was designed initially for B/X where staves have 3d10 charges when found so there's not need to mention number of charges. Likewise there is treasure types N and O mentioned in this adventure and this is not the way random treasures tables work in SD (there are no "letter" treasure types at all). In adventure Once, so Beautiful there's a Wand of Secret Door Detection - a standard magic item in B/X, that does not exist in SD (plus wands in SD work differently) - of course there could exist non-standard wand in SD, but there's no description provided how Wand of Secret Door Detection would work in SD. Also in that adventure there's a spellbook with all spells known by an NPC mentioned amongst treasures, and having spells written in spellbook is how magic users work in B/X but not in SD. SD wizards don't learn spells from spellboooks. Tower of Last Defenders mentions saving throw against Rods, Staves and Spells - a concept absent in SD, but obvious for anyone familiar with B/X. I suppose there might be more similar B/X leftovers in those adventures. Of course as a long-time B/X GM I have no issue with making conversions and rulings on the fly. For example I can replace spellbook with collection of spell scrolls or replace a Wand of Secret Door Detection with Wand of Cat's Eye (spell from CS#1). But if I haven't got any experience with B/X I would be confused what "Treasure Types N and O" actually means. To be clear, all adventures seems really interesting and thematic, and I'm probably end up getting them all, but I wouldn't recommend them for a GM who is not familiar with B/X (especially new GM, who is still unsure about hand waving stuff).
