A police officer did this, not the "police". Murder isn't part of the agenda, not even in the somewhat authoritarian UK. You know what stops a man from killing a slender young woman? A stern lecture? No, a handgun stops that man, cold. In the US handguns stop FAR more violent crime than they are used in. Funny it's not reported on.

But defunding will only exacerbate the number of unqualified officers out there. And we should also acknowledge that caucasians are the most frequently killed. Even though the way media pitches things, it seems otherwise... The records are publicly available via FOIA. But the real problem is Police Brutality and Misconduct. Poem to Sarah Everard: Just because I'm a girl, it gives you no right to enter my world, My telephone number is not relevant, If you ask again, I'll be like an elephant, Heavy enough to break your bone, If you don't leave me alone. Just because I wear make up and skirt, You were not invited, It wasn't a flirt. Just because you think I look willing, doesn't mean I'm someone you can be killing. Just because I walk alone in the night, It's all not an invitation, it gives you no right, To attack me or stork me, Not even to talk with me. Even wearing a mini skirt, doesn't mean I'm someone you can hurt. I can wear whatever I want, Without being part of your stunt. Lisa Harbinger.

@@NiSiochainGanSaoirse Yes, like those "grooming gangs" they covered up for years, it would've been better without police, people could've found their own justice. They allowed the industrial scale r*pe of underage girls to continue and most of the population were unaware because they assumed the police were supposed to be doing their job. Now we're in a worse situation where people have no real rights to defend themselves - can't even use pepper spray, whilst relying on police that are not only NOT fit for purpose and sometimes don't even bother showing up. They covered up the acts of child r@pists. Stop defending them like they're the community police of old that had some type of connection to the community they served, they're not - they're an absolute shambles. Helping elderly burglary victims? How? Taking a crime report for insurance purposes - if that, they're f*cking useless. They barely show up for anything. The odds of them retrieving anything are next to nothing, not that they're even ar*ed about doing it unless they're somehow personally involved. What incentive do they have? Whose going to hold them to account? They get paid regardless of how useless they are and so long as they can fudge crime statistics to make it look like they actually do something - like arresting people who make hateful comments on Twitter, they can avoid doing anything useful in the real-world.

The reason this kind of "whataboutism" always rings hollow, is that it's self-evident that tragic deaths occur every day, just as it ought to be self-evident that there's only so much opportunity to report on them, and only so much physical and mental "bandwidth" available to give them each the airing they deserve. So by engaging in this kind of "whataboutism", your only actual goal can be to minimize discussion of this particular case, or to shut-down discussion of the problem of violence against women more generally. After all, if some other, similar tragedy genuinely moved you so, why would you be opposed to highlighting this particular tragedy at all?
