Actually that phrase is pretty nuanced and can be...rather it IS used in various other situations too. It kind of literally translates to "it can't be (done) if it's not Killua" which also implies kind of that he cannot use his attack well if it's not Killua holding the ball. Also at 1:40 he says "toki doki" which means "at times" or "sometimes". I understand people may confuse these two so just letting you know.

I love getting to see these kinds of insights. I wish I could watch the show with someone who spoke Japanese. I watch the dubbed version with the subs on and they differ almost more often than they’re the same. It’s far more often the dub seems like it has to be the better translation but not always by any means. And these differences can be substantial, sometimes almost completely different. I’m only now reading the manga and I’m trying to look at how those translations compare but it’s too huge an effort to do it well.

Sense Im studying Japanese I have a japanese tutor and when it came to this phrase he said this sentence could also reference strong trust to one another or devotion to another. Sense Gon was the one who helped killua with his traumatic backstory ofc killua will be forever grateful especially sense gon is his first friend and I think gon knows that.

Gon basically views killua as a brother sense they are so close to each other. I heard that from one of the animators that drew half of the scenes where killua says something like "I'll stick with you" But gon is grateful for killua because he feels and probably knows killua will never leave his side and killua was the first person to actually stick with him until the end, y'know.. to find gons dad. And killua did that as a thanks for pulling him out his darkness and abusive family. And Togashi has no problem with the sexuality of his characters. That is another reason why I think that he is, or was, making a development on the psychological aspect of self-acceptance with Killua. Even the concept of the nen needle on his head could be a metaphor of this concept, liberating himself of the "thoughts" of the others. Making this subject a bit obvious but not clear (yet), just give more praise to the series, making ambiguity in a loved Character and polarizing the followers of HxH.

Just because someone blushes or stares at another doesnt mean its always love? Killua had a really dark and torturous past. He never had friends or any person to ever really show him affection. Gon was the first friend and person to do that. That explains why killua said gon is the light. Killua grew up with assassins in the darkness and was meant to be one until gon showed up. Killua is also surprised how gon could be so loving and loyal and kind to people sense gon rarely ever saw those kind of people growing up either. High devotion and admiration doesnt straight up mean love. If Im really grateful for a friend who helped me recover from my past traumas and made me feel good that doesnt mean I love them Im just really thankful for finally having someone to support me. I apologize for the long sentence lol..also Im not bashing the ship, people can still ship it but its just people always assume staring + blushing instantly = love. You can admire someone and devote your life to them without loving them. If someone made you feel emotional support and happy ofc you'd want to stick with them and not your abusive family.
