Comrade Cucumbers Honestly if you look at the lore, the Helgast(?) are actually more of the good guys because all they are doing is claiming revenge for being abandoned on the planet.

The Helghast and the ISA are both equally undesirable and desirable. Both are good yet bad. The ISA is a democratic republic with a side dish of meritocratic ideology, with a typical modern western hemisphere culture. It is benevolent and kind to the rich, the loyal, and those within it's State. However, it doesn't like sharing. And it is anything but a good neighbor. It is very oppressive and imperialistic towards those who do not fit in, those who are not within the ISA, those who want out of the ISA, and most importantly, it is uncaring for those in the outer systems and fringes of Human space. It is only good for those within, unless said state citizens are fringers or outer systemers. It is not perfect at all. The Helghast are a strong, patriotic, united, efficient, focused, and advanced nation, governed by a constitutional yet autocratic, fascist yet socialist, oligarchic dictatorship. It is very unique and unorthodox. Despite it's unity, strength, efficiency, and superpower status, it is very vengeful and spiteful, and can be oppressive and corrupt to it's own people to all when things go badly and/or wrongly. Not to mention that it villifies itself by being merciless, ruthless, and malevolent to all enemy nations and their members, whether civilian, surrendered, or military. It's violent behavior dooms it. Even though their national goal and purpose of strength, efficiency, and unity without imperialism is respectable, they squander it by fighting the war and continuing it more than necessary and being too extreme. They are right to become independent amd reclaim what was stolen from them, but when they kill unarmed and innocent civilians and torture their PoWs, they are then just atrocious monsters. Both sides are good and evil. They are right and wrong about each other. Killzone is as much of a action game as it is a criticism of unreasonable and illogical conflict. Both sides are hypocritical and malevolent, yet benign and just in their ways. If they put aside their differences and worked to fix their flaws as allies, they would perfect Mankind. But they won't accept that either side isn't evil and deserves to exist.
