She is almost always straightforward. Hae-in hiding her emotions means that either (1) she is too emotionally hurt and she is shutting down as that is the only way she knows how to deal with those feelings, (2) when she feels like her real emotions will be well received (i.e. they will be rebuffed or result in an outcome she doesn't want - like unnecessarily worrying people) or (3) when she feels like showing her feelings would put her in a disadvantage and make her vulnerable. I blame her family for that mindset. She had no one to comfort her when she was hurt since after the accident where her elder brother died and as a result never developed a healthy way to deal with her feelings. When Hyun-woo fell for her, the only side he saw was the direct woman who was always blunt and to the point about her feelings. This worked well with Hyun-woo who is often clueless when it comes to picking cues due to his naivete. But this led to the problems after the miscarriage as Hyun-woo's sensitive nature means he needed to openly mourn their lost child and needed to feel a connection to the child through Hae-in and the nursery. But Hae-in could only deal with grief by shutting down and distancing her from the memories of her lost child. Hyun-woo having probably never seen this side of her, interprets this as her not being as invested in their child as he was and sees the act of her clearing out the nursery as apathetic cruelty. Hae-in as a result gives him more space, as that is how she reacts when she feels her presence is unwelcome. And, Hyun-woo in episode 1 interprets this as her not being in love with him and only keeping him around as a trophy and out of stubbornness. The events of the series makes their love stronger as it clears out their misunderstandings and lets them see the parts of each other that they didn't know about before. Now, Hyun-woo knows that Hae-in hiding her emotions doesn't mean she doesn't care but rather it means (1), (2) and (3) listed above. Hae-in in turn knows that Hyun-woo would embrace the parts of her she considers weak or ugly without hesitation if only she lets him and doesn't shut him out. It also helps a lot that she has now started to build a relationship with her in-laws and is repairing her relationship with her family. This gives Hae-in and their marriage a wider support structure. Thus giving us the 50 years of marriage that they had. Plus an eternity together in the afterlife if you interpret the last scene that way.
