My god she is SO over the top. She literally could have just picked up the papers and the backpack.

I don't mind the Athena twist, Dr Drakken was known for - that. But Kim and her personality throws me off. She was the popular(ish) cheerleader who had a head on her shoulder, and despite struggling sometimes with her humility, she was normally very humble. I don't like that they had to dumb down Kim to relate to the youth. (That said the movie wasn't made for me sooooooo.)

Why is it that the movie industry is under the impression that live action is an upgrade from animation?

My biggest issue with this movie (and I will state that I haven't watched it myself, I've only seen commentary and clips about it), is how they ruined Kim's character. They managed to [kinda] keep Ron's goofy and clumsy charisma, but they made Kim so...ugh. In the series, she's humble and kind and, while being aware that she's very capable, she doesn't let things go to her head. She's very grounded and smart while maintaining that badassery and ability. In the movie, she comes off as full of herself/vain (see "I've never met someone who's better than me"), annoying, and over the top (see unnecessary flips and crap to collect the papers). I would say childish as well, but she's supposed to be 13-14 here, so.. that argument only holds so much. What makes it even worse is that this was written by THE ORIGINAL CREATORS of the cartoon. It feels like an insult to their own work. And retconning the original back story for Ron and Rufus makes me so fucking angry. Maybe it would've worked better as a 2D reboot instead of a live action, but the story would still need a LOT of work.

Why did they change Kim from being a cheerleader to a soccer player. Is it because cheerleading is seen as a feminine sport so they didn't think it was cool enough for a girl who happens to also fight bad guys. I mean her cheerleading is how she knows how to do her stunts it makes much more sense than soccer.
