Kim Wilson is THE best harp player around in the blues at the moment and the best thing about him is that he just doesn't go with the "you have to tongue block everything" approach that some people have. You have to be able to use both techniques. Playing the harp isn't about being technical, technical is boring, it's about communicating with the audience. The guy is just class.

First time I played with a band, I did play too much. I know it was bad. Second time was better. Still a ton to learn. I have been told I was on the right track. I started out U-blocking, now I am trying to get the pucker and TB to work. Started at age 52. I enjoy learning. Thanks for this video.

What I'm gathering from this is that KW, while being one of the best of the traditional Chicago based contemporary players, is and was as much of an exacting professional in terms of technique and practice as any of today's modern players.

Playing blues harp is a hell of a lot easier than trying to figure out what it is your doing to get the sounds that work or even when to play.. Like Son House said about playing bottle neck slide guitar, "It's just a natural thing" You can mess around with simple riffs for years playing from one into another and never know if you are any good until you are onstage with a bullet mike, tube amp and knowledge of what key to play in... If your good you won't have to pay for your drinks..

amen to that! no one wants to hear a harmonica, or banjo or dobro, all during the whole piece. take your turn. bump off of the other musicians. it is a banter of languages back and forth. thank you!!

I’ve only seen 3 or 4 legendary harp players live. Kim, Charlie musselwhite, Toots Thielman and I’d throw on Pat Ramsey.

Kim Wilson = a living inspiration and greatest player alive...2:43 is a tounge flutter and not a tounge switch ..on and off with draw percussion....not side to side 1 / 4 octave draw on and off with the chord 2/3 draw

I was at Gary's house when i was 14 years old and he gave me a shoebox of used Harmonica's eventually i had a blues Band a couple years later,Most people know who I am. Kim Wilson is right, when you play don't play throughout the whole SONG

I can play the blues harp and have been able to since I was very young and can play it in all positions ,tongue block and all but I will tell you something, the chromatic is the real harmonica. I can replicate most bluesmen but I have been trying to play Genevieve by Larry Adler for almost 40 years and have never quite got there.Almost but not quite and never will much to my eternal dismay.
