The fact that some people don't know who the iconic Bette Davis is truly is sad. Then again, the first producer who saw her initially said he saw no one who looked like a star and she was that and so much more. Those haunting eyes, that dramatic acting, that unmistakable voice... There will ever only be one Bette Davis.

I'm a little confused by the song actually. I only discovered it recently when Ethel Cain covered it at a gig. I perceived it as a queer anthem but reading comments now I don't know if that's what the mainstream opinion is... Do people think it's queer-coded? The lyrics, vocal performance and music video feel very sapphic. Like she's lusting after this woman. I don't know who Bette Davis is but sounds like she must have been a bit of a sex symbol? Beautiful, troubled and dangerous to fall in love with?

This song defined my childhood. I distinctly remember waking up to this song after having eye surgery, this song playing on the radio. I had no idea whether I would be able to see at all, but this song playing in the background, comforted me, its light, memorable guitar line echoing through the post-operation room. As much as I tried to open my eyes, they remained shut, as if stitched shut. At only 8 years old, and unsure of whether I would see again, I clutched onto my mother's hand, trembling in fear. My mom reassured me that the operation was a success, and that I would see with time. As this song played on, I felt her move her hands to the throbbing beat of this song, and I once more willed open my eyes, a shadowy figure of my mom emerging from my small slit of vision. As this song ended, I felt a tear land on her hand -- and then Credence Clearwater Revival began to play.

It's because the synthesizer was so prevalent in the 80's. Furthermore, use of the synthesizer implies that the atmosphere is quiet, and who doesn't like peace and quiet? In a room full of noise one might still be able to hear a guitar being plucked in the corner but a synthesizer would be lost in the din. So when our mind hears a synthesizer it is happy because that means the atmosphere must be quiet enough for our ears to hear it.

80s music has all those bouncy tunes, even with a somewhat dark tone in the lyrics, while in the 90s it was all angst. Now that I said that, Jackie DeShannon recorded this in 1974 as more of an R&B take.

I think part of the magic is that music was defined by talent more than appearence. Now you just need to have a "look" and auto-tune will handle the rest. When you open up the field to even the "ugly" people, you are exposing yourself to a wider range of talent and potentially great music. When your looks are what matters most, the field narrows drastically.

A magical, timeless song and performance. What a vocal! As a little boy, I grew up about five houses up the street from Betty Davis's Mansion at Woods Cove beach, Laguna Beach, California. My mother ran the local theater, and Betty Davis would sometimes act during what was called, summer stock. The weird thing was that everyone said my mother had Bette Davis eyes. So true.

Tuscany, Italy! You couldn't live in a better place! I once lived in a small town close to Treviso in the Veneto chiamato Conegliano, anche vicino a Vittorio Veneto alle base delle Dolomiti. I grew up on a beach (Laguna beach, CA) above which Bette Davis had built a large, beautiful home. My mother was the manager of our local theater in which Bette Davis would sometimes act during the summer for free ( the season of "summer stock").

Sometimes there is a certain heartache to be had when reminiscing, especially to this timeless classic. I remember all my old friends who I have not seen in decades. Where are they now, what are they doing, how did their lives turn out? This is a very beautiful song and I would not have it any other way.

Hi my friend I say the same thing all the time..know why?because I compare our beloved days back then to now..and guess??there is no comparison..we had been blessed with all with talent that took a year or more writing music or train there voice for years now you can run a computer and have a shit voice and no talent that’s award winning..the fun we had the kids in playgrounds..knowing family outings suppers and just hanging out together..all the I love you’s and all the awesome tv shows variety shows and everything just about on tv and the silver screen..kids that had respect for parents and teachers until some bullshit political correctness allows the old wrong be today’s right and and today’s right to be definitive wrong for yesterday..that’s what the fk is wrong!purposely and deliberately to turn our youths brains into obedient duck shit no lies here is truth in nutshell

I was wearing my headphones playing the drums and had some music playing on the computer. I wasn't listening to it, just had it on in the corner. Heard some melody that bled through my headphones that instantly reminded me of this song. Took some help online to remember the song. Earliest memories of being alive just come flooding back. What a great song. Wish I could experience those times again, to feel the love of my family when were all closer, living in the same house and not out of the nest yet.

The internet is your friend....."Bette Davis Eyes" is a song written and composed by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, and made popular by American singer Kim Carnes. DeShannon recorded it in 1974; Carnes's 1981 version spent nine weeks at No. 1....

This song reminds me of why I liked the 80's so much. Great music and fun times. This song was #1 for nine non-consecutive weeks. It was bumped from the top spot for a week only to regain it a week later, a truly remarkable feat for a song to do. Great voice Kim, rock on🤟.
