Guy I can safely say Marvels Rivals isn’t an overwatch clone, it’s the real overwatch 2
So I’m in the alpha of Marvel Rivals alpha and with 7 hours under my belt now I’m ready to put in another 8 after I’m done with this video because for those that don’t know, Marvel made a 6v6 hero shooter and this might be the best thing marvel has done since end game, I’m not kidding.
Now I know what you’re thinking right off the bat, Brad! Isn’t this just discount overwatch? There’s no way a game like this can is could take blizzard on and actually -- uh wait what did you just do?
Oh yea it’s got destructible enviroments. Is that spiderman..?
yea! spiderman is like genji on crack! He actually has fluid webswinging and feel like they ripped him out of insomniac games, literally (its yuri). He’s pretty tough to learn and dies in 2 hits but man is he fun.
What about tha-? Oh doctor strange? Yea imagine if reinhart could fly and had a portal gun and don’t even get me started on starlord, that dude is crazy.
Man that’s pretty cool- It’s the end screen? Yea everyone gets their own play of the game at the end, it’s build into the games theater mode, also do you wanna join my faction, we’re gearing up for the tournament mode and are probably comp drops tomorrow and uh it’s 6v6…holy shit, this is more a sequel to overwatch than overwatch 2….

Please tell me more, no one hates overwatch more than us overwatch players. Of course.
For an alpha build, Marvell Rivals is taking some pretty big swings. Made by NetEase Games who’s portfolio consists of only mobile games, I went into this alpha skeptical but as soon as the game launched, I realized I was in for a treat.
Right off the bat, this game’s quality is crazy. When you see menu’s like this where the characters pop out, have ability demos, difficulty ratings, shown synergies, and oh yea, recommended strategies, it’s clear to me that NetEase knows their game has to be easy to get into and have depth to keep wanting to play.
You see already this game answers a problem overwatch has. Learning curve. As someone who got into overwatch pretty late into the game I remember being completely overwhelmed by this screen. The sheer volume of characters alone was intimidating not to mention what average overwatch gameplay looks like and uh the people you can meet in there.
Hero shooters can be incredibly unfriendly to new player to get into, but already in the alpha, NetEase is showing it’s not only looking to attract experienced players because uh, some of the characters let you abolsutely feel cracked, but also wants to be on ramp for people Overwatch and it’s 10 years character meta’s, rosters, and experience left behind.

@Phasmania Cyclops is a major character of the X-Men plus he got a big boost in popularity thanks to 97 so I fully believe he'll get in the game at some point. The leak doesn't have Deadpool in it I think and Deadpool is definitely getting in this at some point too.

They bring back original Mercy Ult, I'm there. Nothing like a Clutch Rez when the enemy team is dancing, with Mercy standing next to an enemy that ignored then didn't kill her when they had the chance. Hated the first Rework, even though it was more powerful and fun to play, because it was way too OP (we did warn them before they released it). Then the YEAR OF NURFING, then whatever she is now (only played OW2 once).

@@roseblite6449 Honestly, I think Mercy is fun in Overwatch "2" (if you disregard all the unbalance bullshit, matchmaking, etc), her gameplay is more dynamic, now every player can "hop" after a dash by just pressing a button, back in Overwatch "1" that required some weird timing. Mercy flies around like dart at all directions, it's cool

I mean it is an OW clone and there’s nothing wrong with that, games copy each other all the time, one huge red flag for this game is that in the NDA for this alpha, you aren’t allowed to say anything bad about this game if you make a video on it, literally says you can’t say negative comments. Meaning 90% of videos on this game will just be people talking about how good it is, like this video, HUGE red flag when you can’t say ONE bad thing about a game

Yep, because he seems to be the hardest "hero shooter" character ever, a mix of dps Doomfist (the real Doomfist), Hammond and Genji... if you can't play well, your team is going to blame you for everything. I am a GM Doomfist, even if I lead the team in damage, mitigation, the fewer deaths in the entire lobby, etc... I am always the culprit anyway

also, it's 3rd person so it's much MUCH MUCH BETTER to watch. You can also see your skins which is a good thing. You can actually appreciate the tricks of superheroes like Spiderman.

No it's that overwatch legitimately is the best fps game ever created and that's why, and I dont even think that's a subjective take, no other fps and by extension no other game gives you the same experience as feeling like youre actually genji, now I haven't played this game but i know from other games that its probably gonna be true that this marvel game wont actually make you feel like spider man and rather like yoire controlling spiderman which for some people is their preferred way but if were talking about recreating the amazing feeling of existing in the world of overwatch than the pov is the single most important part to what makes overwatch, well overwatch 😂 and that's how it makes you feel like the hero and really let's you connect with your hero and it's why overwatch players get so defensive over their characters more so than any other game, because when you attack mercy, you're attacking the people who play mercy as they probably actually think they're mercy lol

Tbh the optimism in this video is appreciative, but my biggest problem with NetEase Games is that they've always made games with good potential. However, they always try to suck the game dry or don't advertise it properly. They're making good first impressions of the game before trying to pump the play base with just microtransactions. Also, NetEase is a little sketchy with their whole creator contract because there's a literal section on what the creators can do, which includes not criticizing the game. It makes the devs seem egotistical and makes me think that this good impression is just a scheme and that they'll eventually start pumping microtransactions. I know you said it's an F2P game, and they have to make money, but there have been rumors they plan on putting newer characters behind battle passes or the fact you have to pay money for them. If this is NetEase's golden child, and they won't make the same mistakes with their other games and actually try to be a good competition with Overwatch, then they have a chance. Marvel has so many beloved and iconic characters they can add to the game, and it will gain traction FAST. They don't even have more iconic characters like Wolverine, Venom, Deadpool, Thor, Captain America, and the list can go on and on. The potential for events, too, can be absolutely hype; they can literally rip comic events and call it a day, introducing two or three new characters and a few good rewards, and everyone will be happy. The potential is limitless, but my skepticism is keeping my expectations steady.

I think that this game has potential amongst us ex-overwatch diehard fans. I quit the game about a year ago or so, and have never seen any other game like it that was as enticing until now. I think as long as the game remains popular we can expect it to be nurtured. I for one have already let my old team know we should try it out.

Yes, I also heard about an NDA clause that prohibits influencers from sharing negative opinions about the alpha right now. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on any reports yet since it's still early in development. The potential using the IP is spot on.

But now that I saw how they manage to put characters like Black panther, Groot, and hulk in a hero SHOOTER game without the characters seeming out of place at all. No matter how this game turns out, I'm so damn impressed with the creative direction on this game. Kudos to all the creatives that worked on this title. The UI, the branding, motion design, character design and art... it all just goes so hard. I can't remember the last time I saw a game this polished looking from front to back.

Overwatch "stole" from TF2 and now Marvel Rivals "stole" from Overwatch. All games do this and it is very normal. Dota was made as a mod for Warcraft 3 ("stealing") then League of Legends "stole" from Dota then Dota 2 "stole" some new mechanics from League of Legends (then HotS from both), etc. It is a wheel that never stops turning. This is why some people swear there is only a few genres even though you could come up with an unlimited amount and this is why they say new things cannot be invented just because they themselves are incapable.

She's also very easy to kill because she slows herself down by 80%. It catches u off guard but once you realise the ultimate backfires on Wanda more on herself than you, it's practically a free kill. That and cutting LOS or fading also ensures it doesn't kill you and I have blocked it with Shields.

I've only gotten into playing overwatch like 3 weeks ago and while i find it enjoyable, i can also see a lot of the problems with it. But even then, i already find myself much more attached to it than i feel i can with Marvels Rivals, this has multiple reasons, some of them being the OW cinematics i'd seen years ago, among other things. So overall i'm glad to see this game rise up so it can give Overwatch a run for their money, they need to do better. Also, great video man ^^

Disagree, Kaplan left because of no passion. Kaplan is the one that made unreachable promises. The people at Blizzard now very OBV have passion for the game and is doing all they can to make it as amazing as possible.

Would've been really cool if they didn't disallow anyone with a review copy to say any negative things about the game. Not saying they don't do a lot of good things too, but having a non-disparagement clause for product reviews should be illegal. EDIT: They've supposedly since apologized and are walking back their policy to "be less restrictive and more creator-friendly", but imho the fact they even had it in there (and enforced it) to begin with is still gross and makes me think they're only walking it back because they got called out.

I’m actually glad you’re bringing this up because 1. They aren’t review copies, it’s an alpha build and 2. They immediately withdrew the clause The content creator system they had wasn’t them reaching out saying “hey here’s a review copy please play our game” it was something creators had to GOTO to get info and sign up for. They were sent a contract, agreed, and signed. For an alpha build of a game, while that clause was strict, usually it’s an NDA and no one talks about the game at all. Clearly people are allowed to talk bad about the game. 98% alpha player are creators and didn’t have to sign shit. I think a company responding that quickly, acknowledging the issue, and changing policy within 2 days is refreshing and something we should be cheering on! Frankly I’m much more skeptical that this news broke from OW2 creators on Twitter who participated in the same system for OW2s beta

Also it’s relatively standard practice for any ad read or working with a company to promote their product. By and large, the issue is a lot of small creators signed the dotted line thinking “oh I made it free game!” Without thinking about it as what it is, a business commitment

The classic situation of the publisher being sorry they were found out... Imo if you aren't a fan of Marvel this game has 0 draw, it'll start off strong given the license appeal but I just don't see anything special here. More mechanics does not lead to a better game, currently with very few characters the game already is hard to follow as a viewer. The artstyle is also egregiously ugly... For the sake of Overwatch I hope it does well, but NetEase have proven time and time again that they are not be trusted, Marvel have proven time and time again they are not to be trusted. I hope to be wrong, but I don't see this not becoming an unplayable mess shortly after release.

It was a good line because the internet has this "combative" mentality, everything is a "top 10", everything has to be either the best or worst thing ever, etc.. direct competitors can coexist, that's good for the consumers. Saying that, as a traumatized Overwatch player, I want to see Overwatch dying in a horrible way, goddamn abomination smh it's already half dead, the popularity explosion of Marvel Rivals (already 1 million wishlists on Steam and it's growing, this game can break the alltime record of active players on the platform) + all the other high profile "hero shooters" about to be released (Bungie is preparing Anthem as we type these comments, even the giant and scary Valve is about to jump in), Overwatch is going to die, they will resist until early 2025 at best, then enter on "maintenance mode"

A friend and I literally came up with the idea for a Overwatch-style Marvel hero shooter years ago, and the fact that someone is actually making it (some of them with even the same abilities we came up with lol) is so fucking cool. I've poured thousands of hours into Overwatch and have had to helplessly watch as they fuck up every single decision since launch; but this game has me feeling optimistic that at least someone is giving them actual competition, a call to change or be driven out of the market.

@@Ohkemos yes, i don't play much but i am diamond 2 on support right now characters who can't confirm kills can rack up high damage numbers easily moira can just keep throwing in orbs and deal lots of trash damage that is easily healed but a widow can land one shots that can't be healed, she will have lower damage but that damage is much more meaningful widow and ashe are both better snipers than ana, sure you can own them on ana but you are playing at a stat disadvantage to them damage wise same goes for lucio, like any dive dps can confirm kills better than he can, only thing he can do better than them is environmental kills from his boops as for kirko she is just the escape and run away master, but cass and other dps are better at hitting headshots and for more damage supports don't have better damage or kill potential, they just have more survivability along with utility

The only issue i could see pop up is game visibility. I hope theres not too many effects on the screen at once and that you can tell what going on. Otherwise it coudl suffer like Gearboxes Battleborn. Even Overwatch which was literally designed to combat this suffered from it at times.

I think you're right on the money. I was fortunate enough to get into the playtest and what I've seen and experienced so far has me really hopeful. The game play is fun, the sound and art design is really impressive and it all hints at a lot of potential depth and growth. I've never played another game by NetEase but they've put a lot of effort into this one and it shows. Yes, as a F2P game, there's going to be monetization of some sort. The good news is that the developer has said there will be no "pay to win" elements here. No characters locked behind a paywall, etc. It sounds like all in-game purchases will be for cosmetics. That's something I can get behind. Overall, the game just does the Marvel IP a lot of justice. I really, REALLY hope that this game does well and that NetEase doesn't let the greed consume them and turn it into yet another predatory disappointment.

Yall dont understand the gaming market and it's scary these devs dont seem to either. We have 3 povs, birds eye, 3rd person and 1st person. These povs all appeal to different gamers, you have birds eye appealing to more strategy based gamers, like dota and league. You have 1st person that appeals much more to the mechanical sweaty try hards like overwatch and every fps out there. And than you have 3rd person, the pov dedicated to single player games because its the best for casuals. The issue here is you cannot run a game purely off casuals unless its single player, even fortnite only managed to attract so many without ruining their game because the battle royal formula is magical, it allows for a casual player to not get flamed inna competitive environment, while letting the super try hards still be able to dominate a lobby without the casuals simply just existing, ruining it like what happens with too many games overwatch included, as appealing to casuals in overwatch actually detracts from the true gamers in the fanbase and has been a massive point of tension since the launch when the devs said they wanna make a complex game and make it easier over time cause they developed some illness that made them stop thinking I guess? 😂 And we see this all the time, how many overwatch like games have come out in 3rd person over the years and just absolutely flopped? Honestly to many to name, but do a Google search if you wanna see. So I dont see how the fps sweaty try hards are all gonna want to flock to this game or the sweaty big brain strategy masters of dota and league, so it's most likely gonna primarily appeal to the casuals like all these games with a small super dedicated playerbase of try hards that like with striker storm immediately make the game unappealing to the casuals, and theyll all run off to their single player games or fortnite again. If you genuinely wanna appeal to the sweaty try hards of overwatch, you absolutely need the pov that enables that, otherwise they wont feel as fulfilled as they do in overwatch and I wouldnt recommend ever trying to compete with dota or league, those games are monsters and will devour anyone who steps foot towards them at this point 😂 We also have side scroller but that isnt relevant here, but who knows maybe I'm wrong and marvel rivals with be so amazing that it breaks this pattern, just I cant think of a single 3rd person game besides pubg and fortnite that's lasted the test of time as a 3rd person comp game, you need some way to bridge those casuals to the people who trully wanna invest in your game without destroying either but when your game inherently appeals to the casuals who will be hopping on and off for other games, you'll be fighting one hell of an uphill battle.

"A little stuttery" is an understatement I've had a lot of fun playing the game (when I can) but if you don't have much ram you're out of luck for now because it wants a minimum of 10 Gb free at one time this is for now I'm hoping to see improvement on that though
