This video gives an explanation of kinetic and contains several examples for calculating kinetic energy, mass and velocity using the kinetic energy equation.
Kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. If an object is in motion then it has kinetic energy. It is also defined as the work needed to accelerate an object from rest to its known velocity. The object will maintain its kinetic energy unless a force acts upon the object to change its velocity. The same amount of work is done on the body when stopping it from its known speed to a state of rest. This is known as the work energy theorem.
There are different types of kinetic energy such as vibrational and rotational kinetic energy. This video will focus on translational kinetic energy. That is the energy of an object as it moves from one place to another.

Do you mean for the girl and bicycle problem? And I am not sure what you mean by, "divide the KE". But you want to solve for the mass and it is v^2 times the mass, so to get the mass to the other side you have to divide both sides by the v^2. Does that help?

how did it become 120, 000 j? I'm confused can somebody explain it to me :((
@arleneazurin
@arleneazurin 3 жыл бұрын
The problem was KE = 0.5 (600kg) (20m/s)^2 First do the (20m/s)^2 so that would be 20 times 20 and that is equal to 400. So now we have this... KE = 0.5 (600kg) (400m/s) Now multiply the mass and velocity... 600kg multiplied by 400m/s is equal to 240,000 So now we have this... KE = 0.5 (240,000) Then multiply 240,000 to 0.5, that is equal to 120,000 J So the KE = 120,000 J Always remember to put the unit J that stands for joules when finding the Kinetic Energy.

Very good question, From PE =mgh If you carry a 100 kg mass up a height of 120 meters you will do 120,000 J of work. Does that help? Here are some other examples: The amount of energy one utilizes in lifting a cup of water from the table to one's mouth equals approximately 1 Joule. One "dietary Calorie" is 4186 J (4.186 kJ). One gram of gasoline releases about 50 kJ on combustion in air. A small car (about 1200 kg) travelling at 65 miles per hour (105 km/h) has a kinetic energy of 1 megajoule (1 MJ). One "kilowatt-hour" is 3.6 MJ. One ton of TNT releases 4.184 GJ on exploding.
