Robert's Soundscapes parts really are just the most phenomenal thing... I understand it's basically a MIDI system but I still don't know how he creates the sounds of the heavens.
@aliensporebomb
@aliensporebomb 9 ай бұрын
He does have guitar synthesis capability but he has multiple very expensive pitch transposers in his setup. Pitching a guitar out of its normal range and then processing it can produce very unearthly sounds. I do live shows in the Twin Cities using similar equipment and you can really produce synth like sounds from a guitar without needing a synth - but he can blend his synth in too. Check my youtube page to see some of the things I've done that are similar. Robert's rig probably costs what a small subcompact car costs though, and he's so musical he'd make anything sound great.

I use this as my alarm. the soundscape is very calming and it begins very subtly so i wake up very naturally, but, at the same time, I know I gotta get out of bed quick before belew's crazy guitar comes in

you should check out Pink Floyd or SWANS (a great and sometimes or actually most of the times much more heavy band than some hard-rock-bands. It also had many line-up changes and still releases new albums every few years. The last one is "leaving meaning" from 2019, but I would start with "The Glowing Man" first, because the early albums of them until "Children of God" are good but not that good for an introduction.). Once & Future-Band are also great. Maybe Haruomi Hosono is worth a listen... And if you also want to check out some strange stuff that isn't prog at all but great anyway, you should give DEAD CAN DANCE a try.

Amazingly well played music, brutal, deranged and lyrical at the same time. Far too complex for the average listener: I include the music critics who slammed it for not sounding like a classic "progressive" album, as if that sentence made any sense at all. It is, as a matter of fact, the most progressive album I can think of. More of Fripp and Belew, please. There is no one else so truly original on the face of the earth.
