(Reupload due to copyright claim) Yeah, this track is just crazy. So many weird little details, and John Wetton plays HARD! I tried to learn it as close as possible, so my tab might be a little different from what you find elsewhere.
I'm using a bass my father made of some old parts. It has a EMG Geezer Butler pickup.
The tone is from the TSE Audio BOD plugin (it's free!) www.tseaudio.com/software/tseBOD

Probably Wetton's most vicious bass in any of the songs they performed. It's like the tone in the Starless coda but basically the entire song.

Yes ^^ I'm working this and your help to understand the way of playing is great ^^ the sound of your P,bass is in the spirit of Wetton , what is the type of amp/pedal you use ? It's really a very good job ^^

Incredibly awesome cover! Love your bass tone. I have some questions: if you check out the live version of LTIA2 on King Crimson's youtube channel, you can, sometimes, see wetton doing what seems to be bass chords. Obviously, the ending of the song has Wetton playing chords, but some other sections of the song seem to feature chords with his classic fuzz bass, do you know what's that all about? Speaking of which, have you tried a fuzz with your bass? I have a suspicion it would sound marvelous.
@IsacDanielsson
@IsacDanielsson 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I think he's mostly just holding his hand in a way that makes it look like he's fretting a chord. I can't make out more than the occasional double stop in that version, though it's a bit hard to hear. He's probably doing what I (and he himself on the original recording) do here; letting the octaves ring out together even playing some of the more syncopated parts. In regards to your question about fuzz; no, I haven't really tried fuzz with this (or any other) bass for years. My ear doesn't tend to like the loss of clarity that comes with a fuzz, though it can be cool in the right context. I generally prefer the more grindy, overdriven amp tone you'll find in most of my videos with my P-basses. I did own a Big Muff at one point, though!

@@IsacDanielsson Thank you for your reply! About Wetton, could you, if you wanted to, check 4:55 of this video? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftRkYNKXqa7PYZ8.html To me, it really looks as if he's strumming a complete chord there, but I trust your judgement a lot more. I just want to verify. About Fuzz, I understand. It really isn't for everyone. it's just that Wetton himself used fuzz quite a lot in his time with King Crimson, so I thought it would, perhaps, give it a higher degree of fidelity. Either way, I need to say it again, fantastic cover!
@IsacDanielsson
@IsacDanielsson 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarceloKatayama Thanks again :) He's essentially doing what I described in my previous comment regarding double stops; letting the octaves (and possibly the fifth, though it doesn't sound like it) ring together. In that particular bar you're referencing it does indeed look like he's strumming briefly. It's just a way of fattening up the sound without adding extra harmonic content, so I wouldn't define it as a "chord" per se. Maybe some musicologist would disagree with me 🤷‍♂
