Thank you for making and posting this video. I found it very interesting. I worked on the construction of the terminal building for 3 years from 1987 to 1990 but I have not seen the completed building. I was there when King Fahd visited the site in 1989. I know the airport was not opened to air traffic until 2000 and it is not very busy. It was originally going to be twice the size and have two identical terminal buildings. The carpark and mosque would have been between the two buildings. Excavation for the two terminals started in 1982 but before the foundations started the second building was cancelled and the excavation filled in. The runways were completed early in 1987 because of the Iran/Iraq war and they were used by the coalition air forces during the Gulf War of 1991. When the airport was planned in the 1970s the main airport in the Gulf was Bahrain and all the planes from Asia and Australia landed for refueling in Bahrain. The Saudis hoped to attract air traffic from Bahrain but by the time the airport was completed Dubai had surpassed Bahrain and KFIA was too big and was mothballed for 8 years before 2000.

Got there Dhahran Aramco in 1979 and left 1985. I don't even recognize this beautiful airport. Back then it was just a plain big building with a few stores at the departure area. Wow! Things have changed!

Looks a lot different in this video from when I deployed there in 1990 for Desert Shield / Desert Storm . We lived across the road in tent city and our A-10's were at the airport . I remember driving over to the airport to work . Would love to come back and see this for myself !!

It was planned to have an enormous fountain display designed by Disney in the main area but I notice it was not built. The one constructed is very modest by comparison.
