The snare is actually over compressed in mixing to make this effect. They seem to like this sound as it's done quite a bit on their records.

Yeah, this is because of the unconventional mood they are all in, still one of the greatest bands around this days, the form is pretty complex and a lot of energy is involved in the process. They are simply the best, never heard such a rough power and charisma same time. Just relax and float down stream...

Think of 5/4 as where you stress the 1 and the 4. beat. 1,2,3,4,5 (5/4) X X 10/8 is subdivided in a more complex way. here in 123, 123, 12, 12. Where the 1 is always the stressed beat. 1+2+3+4+5+ ( 10/8) X X X X

+Bambeng Triatmaja Two drummers in the band, so it the two snares combined together. Snares have been muted with tape.

+Bambeng Triatmaja I think is a combination between a loosen snare, the muted snare with tape, an eq enhancing the low frecuency of the snare (between 80 - 120 hz), the close mic, and the distortion. Also there's two snares each one panned hard left and hard right, giving you a super cool stereo effect. And It sounds the engineer used the compresor with no fear of death.

Mackenzie wanted to name the band "Gizzard Gizzard" while another band member wanted to reference Jim Morrison's nickname "Lizard King". They eventually compromised with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Their name gives me the vibe of a super hero comic that must be written somewhere in the 80's, and King Gizzard is this alien/lizard dude that protects us from evil. I can totally live with that philosophy
