King Harald and the royal family greet the children's parade on Norway's national day 17th May 2024

The 17. of May is our national day, the constitution day of Norway. The day is usually celebrated locally, people will gather at their local school, someone might hold a short speach and the children (and sometimes their parents too) will walk in a small parade and wave with flags. In Oslo however, all the schools merge together and holds one huge parade down the main street and across the Palace Square. And every year the royal family come out on the balcony to watch the whole parade.

Amazing! This is a nice way of calibrating a countries patriotism. Its such a nice way of showing unity, love of country and inclusion. This are the kids of Norways future.

It's amazing to see Princess Ingrid Alexandra in uniform. She reminds me of Princess Leonor of Spain and Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant who are also in uniform.

We use it as a 'royal anthem' in addition to our national anthem. The same tune was also used as the national anthem of Germany, when Germany was a monarchy.

The tune is also used for the national anthem of Liechtenstein, and Americans will recognize it as the tune for the patriotic song "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." It's a great little tune, easy to remember and sing, so no wonder it gets recycled!

The National Anthem of The United Kingdom is called Kongesangen 9in Norway ( The kings song) and is used by many countries. His Majesty the king of Norway is also in distant family with the royals of the UK

That is up to His Majesty the King if he wants to retire. Nobody is forcing him. He has made it clear that he does not want to. His workload has however been reduced.

I agree with you, but what can you do when he doesn't want to? The Crown Prince is helping out a lot, so if it works for them who can say otherwise?
