This is a play-through using 2nd form Krizalid in the PS1 version of King Of Fighters '99. Read on below for more information...
Krizalid is the one and only boss of the game, and comes in 2 forms. The 2nd form of him is an unlockable playable character, but he cannot be used in Team Play or Single Play modes.
===== Additional Information =====
---- His colour palette in this video is my own custom edit, done in the game's Color Edit mode.
---- He appears as a black silhouette on the character select screen.
---- His square icon image on the character select appears as a flawed black square.
---- If you select and use him as a Striker character in the non-VS modes, trying to use him as a Striker will freeze the game.
---- If you select and use him as a Striker character in the non-VS modes, his striker icon appears as a flawed image.
---- On the Versus screen, if he is chosen with a team of other characters, his panel image is correct. This is because he is normally a selectable character.
---- In this version of the game, on the pre-match scrolling Round screen, his portrait is the unmasked version which shows his face. This was different in the arcade version where it was a black silhouette instead.
---- He has a new standing Light Punch in this version of the game.
---- He has some new jumping basics in this version of the game.
---- He can crouch and has unique crouching basic moves in this version of the game. He couldn't crouch at all in the arcade version.
---- He has some new standing close-up basics in this version of the game. He didn't have these moves in the arcade version.
---- If you legitimately unlock him, his icon appears underneath the random [?] box on the character select screen. His icon image is wider than the regular character's icons.
===== About 2nd form Krizalid =====
Under human control, he is ridiculously overpowered... all of his special moves have massive priority and virtually every standing basic can be easily comboed into every special move and his Desperate Overdrive. The light punch Tornado Rage covers a large range, wipes out projectiles and does high chip depletion; his Rising Moon Slash is virtually invincible; and his Axe Lift Kick seems to win over absolutely everything in the game. And to add icing on the cake, he builds the Pow gauge extremely quickly and his Charging Grapple gives him an easy infinite combo. Insane.
Design-wise, his 2nd form is nothing that special, but it's his moves and aggressiveness that really makes him. It should also be noted that he has LOADS of animation frames cut out for this version of the game... it's quite an eyesore. For example, the cut animation makes his pre-fight coat-burning intro look poor; it makes the punches in his Desperation Overdrive DM look weird and less dramatic; and it makes his End of Heaven DM look very jerky. I know this because being someone from the MUGEN community, I'm familiar with every single one of his frames/sprites.
===== About PS1 KOF'99 =====
A fair port of the arcade game. As the KOF series evolved, there are quite a lot of animation frame cuts that are quite noticeable for most of the characters... it's kind of all over the place, and if you're used to the animation of the original arcade version, you will notice it. As extra memory is needed to store the Striker characters per match, I can imagine it has even more animation frames cut for the main fighting characters than the previous PS1 KOF games. However on the upside, the game takes advantage of the PS1 hardware and uses the AST music tracks.
A nice feature of the game is a Color Edit mode where you can edit the colors of any of the legitimate selectable characters (besides 1st form Krizalid of course, because he's unplayable).
Loading times are a pain and cannot be avoided on the PS1 hardware obviously.
