Your concern is very kind, however this was during a private KS rehearsal and Bella has known these guys her whole life. It wasn't stressful in anyway. And there are much worse things than teaching a child how to be polite. I uploaded it back in 2011 so I could send the link our families but have been surprised and touched by how many people love it. Bella still watches it all the time and it means the world to her. Thanks to everyone for all the lovely comments. Maybe I should post Happy Birthday at 4! :)

This is the most beautiful arrangement of HBD I've ever heard. Bella is so adorable, especially her sheep-interpretation! As it was said in most comments she is surely lucky to have a King's Singer-dad. And Mr Chris G. is lucky to have such a princess.

It was a different group, but the Kings Singer's sang to me live, in person, at UCLA on my 21st birthday in 1992. A very memorable birthday for sure. :)

I think I would have been about Bella's age when I first heard the Kings singers. My parents bought me a tape called 'kids stuff', an album of songs, narrated by Dame Judy Dench. I always insisted they put it on when we drove anywhere. I'm 33 now.. Still listen to it occasionally :) Bella is well named. Beautiful girl.

The grace note is that E (on "Be-") going to a D (on "-lla"). That D is the 3rd of the Bb major chord, and that E natural (not flat !) is like an augmented 4th for the Bb major Chord. Which gives it a nice spacey, lydian kind of sound.Hard to explain without paper

Sorry i'm a bit late, but I've tried to figure out what chords they're singing and it seems to me like it's your regular I-V-I-IV-I-V-I progression F major, with a twist at the end : so F to C, back to F, Bb to F, then C and here comes the surprise : C# major 7, then F# major 7 and finally F major. The common note sung by the soprano is an F (or an E#, which sounds the same, on the C#Maj7 and F#Maj7 chords) which is why it "works" I think.

Even a simple happy birthday will transform in a beautiful harmonic piece. Bella is sure one lucky girl, her dad's a KS-er, and they'll perform on your birthday spontaniously. I'm jealous... (and quietly blaming my dad why he can't sing as good as the KS) XD

By the way, I had renamed the chords after my first "analysis" in another comment, with more flats than sharps (Dbmaj7 instead of C# for instance), and I think someone else had replied to my first comment with more accurate chords.

Actually I suppose it makes more sense to think of those chords as Db major 7 and Gb major 7 rather than C# and F#, which are a lot further in the cycle of fifths. And so the common note would still be an F throughout, and not an enharmonic E#

Man, this arrangement is soooo wasted on a 2 year-old, even a KS-kid. :)

Only not very wise parents can cause such a big stress to such a small child. Instead, they could organize a small and quiet supper at home and sing "Happy birthday" to Bella themselves instead of pushing a small girl on stage, filming her, telling her to give a hug to everyone and say thank you to everyone. It's too much for a child at the age of two years.
