As promised. As part of my video which I put out a few days ago , (which you can watch here: • How KING TUBBY and his... ).
Osbourne Ruddock was an electronic genius and his methods shaped not just dub but soundsystem culture as a whole. Reggae music would be very different without his contribution.
I found this interview with the great man himself from Finnish Broadcaster Tero Kaski.
The copy I found on facebook was very noisy so I did some noise reduction and cleaned things up.
As far as I know this is the only recording of his voice. if you know of any more please tell me (that's why i put the clickbaity title, i'd love you to prove me wrong).
The interview itself doesn't shed a great deal of light but it's of historical importance I think. He speaks about the end of his soundsystem, then current work and about his old protege King Jammy.
This interview was recorded in 1987 I think and this was before Tubby became the truly revered figure he is today.

This is SOLID GOLD, If somebody pressed this interview on vinyl, I would instantly purchase it. I hope one day a clean copy of Tubbys sound playing at a session is found, so we can clearly hear the quality & weight.

@@MusicEnthuZoneHe basically invented the remix. Note this is different than the "version", which I'm pretty sure he did not invent. I forget who did, but I'm pretty sure it was an accident.

Without him, we wouldn’t have Jammy or The Scientist. Especially not the Aggrovators and all of the legends who came from his studio

We definitely would have The Aggrovaters. That name and band was put together by Bunny Lee consisting of session musicians that were well known. King Tubby didn't record bands. He mixed mostly and sometimes voiced people over riddims recorded at Channel One, which sessions were engineered by other people.

@@carlwinslow5905 makes sense! It still stands that it would be so different if he never came around. He’s still the reason why many mixing techniques for dub exist and he popularized the use of the high pass filter with the big red knob

This is interview is AMAZING!!! Like several others here I have NEVER heard Tubby’s voice so this is nothing short of heart warming and mind blowing for me being a MASSIVE Dub and Tubby fan. This man and his collective and their contribution to music as a whole is Truly Immeasurable!!! Thank you! BIG UPPPPP!!!!!!!! He sounds like such a gentle and intelligent human. He is so rare. Seemingly he had great boundaries also, and if you work with musicians and you can maintain your own energy, you have energy to use to create which most engineers don't have. He truly has been the leader for us all! Respect!
