King Zilch-Terrytoon 1933

Exceedingly bizarre cartoon with the second appearance of the title character (the first was CINDERELLA) and the debut of Fanny Zilch's design (soon to start the first "Oil Can Harry" miniseries.) Whether the King's character was "inspired" by the debut of Van Beuren's Little King series, no one alive can say.

Possibly the most common distinctive element in Terrytoons was those bullets flying around, and that was some monster of a gun the Queen used to send them on their way.

This version was seen on the syndicated "FARMER ALFALFA AND HIS TERRYTOON PALS" in 1958,

The animation on the girl, could it be by Carlo Vinci? Did Tytla do any animation in here (as the king singing sequence)? Thanks

Yes, Tytla did the King singing. The appearance of the girl was by Frank Moser. Her "Honey Boy" bit was by Tytla. Vinci didn't arrive until 1935.

This is a fairly typical Terrytoons portrait of 1930's moral corruption with a European monarch traditionally the head of church and state and thus supposed to be an example of Christian virtue portrayed as a tiny little henpecked alcoholic stealing bottles of booze from his palace guards and letting himself be seduced into flirting with a flattering blond floozy behind the back of his big fat wife who chases the two of them out of the palace with a machine gun until he comes begging forgiveness with flowers she hits him over the head with and perhaps hoping for a hug and a kiss childishly hops up on her lap she promptly turns him face down across for a well deserved spanking as many such 1930's cartoons ended. Thank you for posting this. I've always loved these sort of zany cartoons from the Thirties and this is one I don't recall ever seeing before.

Any time we got those old cartoon compendiums on VHS from the library as a kid, I would groan when I saw the Terry Toons logo. It looks like they were just as bad in the 30's.

Actually, The Little King character was owned by King Features Syndicate, the same that owns Popeye. Hense, it didn't matter that Max Fleischer released a Betty Boop cartoon in 1936 featuring the same character after Van Beuren went defunct. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gr5pgdugq6mceKc.html
