It's probably because you using the perk breaks his script so he takes your wager. You have to hurt him without hitting him in the head.

I lost the duel. But because I'm a sore loser with no morals I sneak attached him afterwards and looted all his armour. And if you're wondering how that made me feel well... I felt like a piece of shit. I never thought a game could make me feel GUILTY until then. However, after encountering him a second time after I KILLED him I stopped taking the game seriously and killed him a second time for the LOOT. The game is buggy as hell.

Today I lost a duel for 50 gold and then when I lost it, it said he took 50 gold but the script ran twice so I lost 100 gold instead. Naturally I had to chop him up and rob everything he owns.

This was a duel in about 8-10 hours of gameplay and by then i barely trained with Robard about how to riposte unlike the beta, to riposte you simply have to press Q at the right time attacking during the riposte will cancel the animation only after 20 hours i figured that, and as you can see from my previous fight i did riposte him once but now after 30 or so hours, i pretty much 2-3 shot everyone with my Herod Longsword

Riposte is not manually triggered anymore. It's auto trigger by chance during perfect block.

He did rather well considering; made up for low stamina with perfect blocks. Sometimes you really need to be aggressive against heavily armoured knights in order to deplete their stamina so you can apply damage to them. I'm just surprised he didn't perform any combos, as the knight didn't always block perfectly.

tbh most of the time opponents doesnt let you combo them. They always make a perfect block at 2nd or 3rd attack. It is %90 like that for me. I can only damage them with feints.

Atalay Dedemen Same for me, and bandits don't live long enough for me to perform combos on them, usually takes one or two chops for a bandit.

Archer there seems to be a mod in nexus that makes battles more difficult, if you play on PC of course.

Yeah you can fix it yourself but if it's too badly damaged you have to take it to a smith, he got rocked so many times its very likely he couldnt repair himself. Plus he also said this was within the first 20 hours of gameplay, I doubt he had high enough maintenance skill.

Higher you get it the more you can repair. When you hit 20 can you not fully repair? I ask cause I'm only at around 13 - 14

George Montano yessir - the better you get your maintenance the further the kits can go AND the lower your armor/clothes/weapons health can go before you can no longer repair them. Easier on your kits if you maintain your gear regularly though.

I agree I took him out in a minute and knocked him out then killed him and looted him he had good stuff but I had better except for his helmet it was different from the one in the video I think it was the Fourth best helmet in the game

I suppose use a slightly worse sword? I use the Magdeburg sword and its nigh indestructible with decent damage, good for killing if you know how but not too good that it ruins fights by 1 shotting.

Indeed. I would use bludgeon against these wayfaring knight/mercenary for a good duel, instead of instant killing them with overpowered mace master strike or sth

you should use the Merchant sword and the Merchant sword only everything else with scaling is just unbalanced asf and you'll have an unimpressive experience

It wasn't unheard of to have a sword fight last several minutes or more. There's also extreme cases like a 3 hour duel between two masters with sabres in the 19th century.

Ever watched some of those medieval fair duels with people in full armor with real (but dull) weapons? Some of the one-on-one's last for a good while, just two guys in full armor beating on each other for several minutes.

Dath123 yes I've seen them lol. It's not a real fair comparison because they just beat the shit out of each other without trying to block or anything because they can't actually be seriously injured. It's much less tiring to smack something over and over without much thought. But I get what you are saying. I could just be wrong.

I have found a shit ton of side quests and activities the. Bandit and cumin camp hunting activities will make you a ton of money I have over 50k grochen atm and nothing to spend it on wish they would add player housing. I'm decently far in main story but I haven't focused on it a ton.

I'm not sure what I hate more, this combat system, the elitists that brag about being good at it everywhere where they can OR the fact that it just doesn't click to me at all. Probably the latter. I hope I'll learn it, as I genuinely love this game but the combat has me very lost - and I'm usually not that bad at stuff like this. It just seems flimsy and... unresponsive to me. It doesn't feel like I'm in control and that the damage I take are due to my mistakes. I hope I just don't understand it yet... And oh how it frustrates me.

I thought our health would go down to 0 and then he'd be like "you fought well" or sm like that) but anyways I'm like at the part where I have to go see sir radzig after scouting out the bandit camp

brooklyn560 yes but the combat system combines the skill level of the character and the player against the opponent. So it really depends.
