Seeing Sephiroth appear for the first time was the only time, in all my years of gaming, that I felt like I might violently shit myself.

LETS BE REAL the moment you first saw Sephiroth appear in this game you were just like "Oooooh fuck!"

Since I don't play FF this was my introduction to Sephiroth, and boy what an introduction. You just beat the gold match, barely, and you think it's over until you see "Platinum Match". But you're like, "ok I'm game. bring it on". Then some crazy thing appears in the sky to summon forth the next giant titan or whate-...that's not a titan. That is a man sized thing that presumably would wreck a titan...with a dark angel wing, ominously rising to his feat like he knows he's the most epic thing that ever walked this or any other earth. oh shit. Then the music starts, and it's a little reminiscent of Jaws or a Slasher villian's theme. Basically it's telling you that it's time to shit yourself. Then the CHORUS starts, telling you that God is probably shitting himself just watching this. ho-lee fuck. Platinum Match: Sephiroth. What's a Sephiroth? I'm guessing it's french for Bad Ass Incarnate. ok! here we go! I'll give it my best- what? it's over? the fuck? he just, hops forward lighting fast and swings a TWENTY FOOT SWORD that kills me in one hit. wow ok. Is that like, the canon way this story goes? here's the heroic but tragic tale of sora, a young boy that might have grown into a great hero if he had not met a very abrupt tragic end when a passing god decided to flick him out of existence. then you try again, dodge the first attack. after a few tries you can dodge well enough that you get a hit in...and it doesn't do damage. his life bar does not go down. yeah, canon sora definitely died here. So you figure, there must be some point in his pattern when he's vulnerable or something, but no matter how long you dodge around his pattern doesn't change and there's no sign of vulnerability. So eventually you just spend one try swinging away at him in frustration, and you discover that his life DOES go down eventually. It was just like, the friggin program couldn't process that much life bar or something. He's just too strong for this reality to fully comprehend. Your scouter is broken and he's over 9000. and so the fight goes on, and after more tries than Sisyphus has tried you start wearing him down enough to see the rest of his tricks. first there's his ability to just teleport out of your combo and stab you in the back, then there's his 100% unpredictable instant wall of fire which sucks you in with a gravitational force, then there's his stupid orb things that follow you around and mess with you at the perfect moment when you're busy dealing with his other shit. Then he just starts flying around swinging his sword so fast that your sluggish ass basically can't do shit about it. Am I actually supposed to beat this guy or did the creators just want to make an impossible boss? *Sin Harvest* ....he has a move that just, takes all your life and magic away for free....ok, this is definitely supposed to be impossible. Then he starts summoning meteors or some shit. Will it ever end? and now he's just spamming so hard that there's no gaps in his defense. but then one fateful day you beat him. you finally beat him and you're the happiest person alive, and you make a keyblade out of him. bitchin. but if there is an adamatium match against chuck norris I'm gonna throw my playstation against the wall.

Whoever decided that Sephiroth, one of the most badass villains in gaming history, should be voiced by Lance Bass deserves a medal.

This reminds me of any MMORPG fight between a paid account character against a free account one.

Ladies and gents, you are officially listening to a battle between the "I see dead people" kid and a member of NSYNC. (No, really. Lance Bass is Sephiroth)

The only enemy who has so much Lifepoints, that you can't even decrease the HP-Gauge until you land enough hits!

This boss battle was so well done. It feel's like Sephiroth is mentally water boarding you the whole time by just barely letting you survive and the darkened arena and One-Winged Angel theme make you dread life.

Now this is an ultimate battle. You can always tell the people who have actually beaten Sephiroth when you ask them how they did it. The answer is, "barely". There is no shortcut, hidden strategy, or weak spot to exploit; it's a war of attrition. A slow chipping away at an enemy 10x stronger, faster, nastier, crazier, and more durable than you. Attack, dodge, heal, pray.

Imagine this was a fair fight... ...where Sephiroth was allowed to heal too.

Basically, if Sora didn't have invincibility frames when he healed, this fight would literally be impossible.

when i first played kingdom hearts and i fought sephiroth the first time, all i could think was "fuck, fuck fuck fuck im so fucking fucked fuck fuck fuck"

Imagine if they kept this guy as Sephiroth's voice actor permanently. Just imagine that for a moment.

I’ll never forget my first time going up against Sephiroth, thinking “This guy will be easy!” Hits me once and I’m almost done for. Try to heal myself, but he hit me and messed me up. I worked my way to level 75 and got the ultimate key blade. Took me 4 tries to beat him, but once I did, I felt so victorious. One of the hardest bosses i have fought to this day.

If you think sephiroth from KH2 is harder than this sephiroth. Then you have some problems. XD

This fight is literally one of the best boss battles ever created in a video game. Even at high levels, he can end you in a few hits, and every second of the fight can end with you dead unless you're constantly on top of what he's doing. He has no weakness, and the entire battle depends on your skill, rather than your levels and power.

I remember doing this as a kid underleveled with a sub-par build, I had to counter every attack flawlessly or get 1-shot, but I did it. Most brutal fight I ever had in any game.

Omg. Imagine that in real life. Like your going to work and you have powers n stuff. Then Sephiroth shows up and you hear the music, that's how you know it's him. You'd be scared shitless. XD

I don't get why they didn't give him an extra bar of health instead of making it look like you're not doing any damage until you've done enough.

Watching this gave me PTSD. Remembering getting here for the first time, then immediately getting 1 shot by a slow walking quick slash. I was lucky enough to even SEE the fire pillars. in fact, that was progress. I fucking quit after a while(months-year) made sure sora had every skill in the book, and best weapon, took as many of each potion that we could hold, and max-leveled him. then went back in. I still sucked, but my sister took the wheels and dedicated so much time into learning the fight, death after death after death. still took months but she had his move-set memorized almost to a T. I couldn't even comprehend how good she was doing till she beat him. and it was the best feeling ever for us. and we were only 11-12. Looking back at this, I dont think we will be able to pull this fight off again lol.

That final swoop on a boss fight is top 100 greatest feelings ever. To celebrate i either silently raise a fist in the air and close my eyes, drop the controller and parade around the room/house/neighborhood/city/state etc, or get extremely aggressive and testosterone ridden and continue to deliver meaningless blows to further assert my vast and crushing dominance over said Boss.

Sephiroth in KH1 makes all the Dark Souls boss look like a nursery game.

Sephiroth sounds so weird without George Newbern voicing him. In KH1, it was a different guy who voiced him.

The frightening thing about both battles with sephiroth is that, Personally i feel that Sephiroth's barely trying and if he were to extent even the slightest more effort he could wipe you off the face of the earth in an instant yet as he always returns he feels there is no need to fight for real. What if in KH3 he decides to cut loose? For me that is a scary thought

He's tougher here than he is in Kingdom Hearts 2.

I shall say this. KH's 1 battle with him was VERY hard. There was NO counter. You had to be on guard and hit him so many times in order for his FIRST health bar to go down. That being said I felt more excitement in KH's 2 due to the counter and better combat mechanics. Plus Limit mode felt like Sora got a power boost in 2.5 Remix. Overall nobody can deni Sephiroth is the best boss to practice on if you want to test were you stand at , at defeating the final boss of the game. I remember fighting Xenhnort/ Terra at the end and it felt very easy since Sephiroth pretty much prepared me for the final fight. YET it still was a challenge just felt more flexible.

Who's here after KH3 remembering when combat was simple yet complex? When blocking and countering actually had a use and when it wasn't just a mindless button masher. This was grounded and intense instead of its now floaty, flashy, spastic successors.. I really miss KH1 combat.

As a kid who knew NOTHING about Final Fantasy (so I didn't know who Squall, Yuffie (hope I spelled it right), Aerith, or even Cloud were), I was horrified at the sight of this dude. That slow stand up, his arm with his wing jolting out, the music starting up, allllll had little kid me shaking in fear of what I just selected to do in this fun (albeit a bit dark) action game with Disney Characters. Years layer, this is still a pinnacle boss fight. The intro is almost unmatched, and definitely an amazing entry to the world of RPG super bosses for me lol

I like this video particularly because it isn't being played by a showoff/expert who can defeat Sephiroth in like 2 minutes, and it actually showcases all of Sephiroth's abilities, and sounds being voice acted by Lance Bass (best English voice actor Sephiroth ever got in my opinion).

I was so proud of myself when I beat him on PS2 back in the day. I remember picking ???? and then realizing that I made a terrible mistake.....I came back after leveling up to 99 and making the Ultimate keyblade. Even with my lvl 99, this was still extremely challenging.

KH1, i never had Curaga, so i was stuck with cura to beat sephiroth, and i did... with the kingdom key

I just got to him last night on ps4 and he kicked my ass already.

I remember this fight being the hardest in the game (never played the final mix + so I can't tell about Xemnas) I also remember having huge headache trying to beat him and i think Sephiroth in KH1 is harder than the second, in fact i think KH2 was easier than the first. Let's hope for the third :)

Its easy in final mix. Remember in the days of the original KH, we didn't have abilities like slide dash to quickly end Heartless angel, or Leaf Bracer to cheese out of his moves? And we didn't have the analog sticks control the camera. Yeah, you had to actually learn how to dodge his moves and how to counterattack him. Speaking of counterattack, I wonder why this guy isn't using it in this fight?

I know Lance Bass gets a bunch of crap from the video game community for his voice of Sephiroth, but when he says "Time to end this," when summoning those fire pillars, it sounds badassssss...!
