What began as a budget hotel platform by then 19-year-old Ritesh Agarwal has today grown to the world's second-largest hospitality chain, encompassing hotels, resorts, holiday homes, and corporate accommodation. Few Facts: Good: 1- The Only good thing He did - He raised good amount of money and took investor/employees/Landlord in confidence. Bad: 2- He always market himself in News paper & Television Media & Social Media about his hard days - which he never had. He cheated his first partner who invested money in OYO... and he got nothing. 3- The whole idea of OYO sharing hotels went to Zero - as you can see - in the intial phase they had tie up with good hotels in every city - Now All good hotels have kicked them out - Now you can see oyo signage at any dhaba or any house with 3 rooms also - there is no standard. 4- They did few things wrong= First they offered free room to everyone at the tie up hotels - so that they can have entire india customer data - then once they have data and everyone downloaded their app they started increasing commission rate on hotels and customer always use to pay to them then they deduct the amount and transfer to hotels but then slowly slowly they increased the commission and started delaying their payments. then they started coming up with their own properties and starred shifting the customer to their residential properties. ( Please note entire hotel industry is made on commercial land which is costly and oyo has made its properties on residential land - these are guest house (passed under common weatlh games ) 5- The entire top management of OYO is corrupted - the take commission in land deals , Purchase like signage, promotional products, interiors etc....whatever the purchase is. only handful vendors deals works with them who have commission set inside. for example - a tshirt which cost Rs 100 to 120 is billed at More then Rs 150 to 200. why signage are changed more then 3 to 4 times? 6- Because of corruption these people have made good money through investor / purchases/ not paying commission to hotels / etc Result: Now its a loss making company , they have fired most of their staff...but he is stil promoting himself. he has not solved any problem - he has opened his new location in residential land where as hotels needs to be opened in commercial lands - he called himself hotels only verbally but its a guesthouse ... Investor - please dont invest People- Please do not work for them Landlords - please do not invest in their ideas
