The “Planet of the Apes” franchise is back, this time hundreds of years into the future with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”. Despite a whole new set of characters, led by Noa on his quest for revenge and discovery, Caesar's legacy is felt all over this film. But is that actually a good thing? Or does it only serve as a reminder how much better the reboot trilogy was? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I felt like the pacing was largely sacrificed for the sake of taking its time to worldbuild, but the worldbuilding is so beautifully visual that I was willing to forgive it. I'm just astounded at how far motion-capture has come since Gollum, the nuances it's able to pick up never ceases to amaze me.

Well said Marianna. I walked out of the theatre having enjoyed myself, wanting a bit more and waiting for the next installment. I was really hoping that you would do an Abigail review. I thought that one would be up your bloody alley. I did a take on it relating to all of the doll like characters in films since M3GAN.

ngl I only first watched the 2011-2017 trilogy recently, loved the movies especially Dawn, and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!! It was dope as hell in IMAX. Didn't try too hard to outdo the other three, and gave us cool new story elements to focus on (like you said with Mae). Also agree that Raka and Proximus were definitely underused, and fingers crossed we'll see Raka again in the future!!

Kevin Durand is from my home town; setting that bias aside, much could have been fleshed out more especially surrounding Proximus, his goals, what purpose his slaves serve beyond trying to yank a door down a door; why did Mae need to latch onto Noa in the first place? How did her mission come about? Action sequences ARE thrilling; As you say, maybe more’s to come in the sequel; an ok popcorn flick. 👍🏻

Great review! I really liked this movie, as someone who absolutely loves the previous trilogy. I like Kingdom more the more I think about it. That said, my ranking would go 1. Dawn 2. War 3. Rise 4. Kingdom EDIT: Also, nice Joe Abercombie books, I plan on reading his stuff in time.

I really liked this movie! Such a cool return for the franchise, an incredible work on a old one. If only all returns could be that good. It's true that the vilain did deserve more screen time. I hope the next ones would be as good and more developed. I'm so curious to see if they will put a story like the original movie in this trilogy, that would be so interesting! And also maybe a movie taking place between the two trilogy, that could work. We will see.

My biggest gripe with 'Kingdom of the Planets of the Apes' is that we've seen it all before, it didn't bring anything new to the table, maybe apart from the eagles. I didn't care for the jailbreak plot either, and Proximus Caesar was rather forgettable. But it does set up a good universe for the remaining films, I just can't get emotional about cgi apes, so I will root for the humans.

Listening to this review/ did they not notice that there were no innovative monkey costumes just a stripe of material and that the story was really slow with no action if I wanted to watch a slow soap opera with the talking monkeys I guess this would be good. There is no innovative music there's no incredible iconic scenes like the original series/ movies that came out in 70s. Am I missing something? There is no creativity just a slow explanation of history. The last one minute of the movie was the only thing that was good.
