So much RESPECT for the MAN, and how he carries himself and represents the sport we all love! As someone who had a career ending injury, I can truly appreciate him wanting to go out on his own terms and at the TOP of his game, because it literally haunts you with the "If only I did this.." KVD, enjoy the time with your family and like you did on the water, make every second count 🎣

I used to fish with a club on the Ann Arbor area called Michigan Bassmasters. I remember fishing a tournament with Kevin and his team (Western Michigan Bass?) on the Grand River on the Lake Michigan side or west side of the state, before he went to the Federation. I can't remember who won but for sure, there wasn't any bass fisherman in Michigan who hadn't heard of Kevin Van Dam even then. Landing in a tournament with Kevin has always been an Oh Sh*t moment. When he announced that he would go pro we knew that he would be able to hand it to those boys down south. You must remember that in those days a professional bass fisherman from the northern states was pretty much unheard of. The rest is history. Great that Kevin got a chance to end it in Michigan.

Wow, so moving. KVD is one of the greatest professional athletes of all time. His greatness is seen in his popularity, brand identity, longevity, and tournament success. You honestly need to speak of KVD outside of the realm of tournament bass fishing and view him in the same way we look at other transformative figures in professional sports, like Michael Jordan or Tom Brady. KVD is a GOAT among GOATS!!!! The fact that Kevin is a fellow Michigander makes it all that much sweeter! Congratulations, Kevin, on all of your accomplishments!!!

I’m from Kuwait and I don’t watch bass tournaments, but I know KVD and watched his tournaments whenever I could. He is a legend in his sport and he is the GOAT of the bass fishing tournaments.

The GOAT gets thrown around alot in sports. But Kevin is truly the GOAT when it comes to tournament bass fishing. He's had a unbelievable career, a genuinely wonderful guy and I couldn't be happier for him. I've lived vicariously through him and his career and I hope he enjoys the retirement he deserves.

Man, I would love to be able to set down with KVD and talk with him about bass fishing for a couple of hours. Hear the stories, get his opinion on things and just enjoy getting his wealth of knowledge. You are and have been an inspiration to more young, and old, anglers then you probably realize.
