With barbershops closed, I had to take the plunge to cut my hair! Join me as I attempt a good cut and trim!

Kimberly Barron. I have a pixie just like hers, I get my hair done every 4 weeks. However, I'm really anal and my hair grows like a weed. I have clippers with all the attachments. Could you tell me what numbers to use to tighten up the sides and back in between my cuts? Also, any tips? It would be much appreciated.

I used to cut my own short hair during the pandemic, as well as during other hard times. It never turned out great. Fast forward to now. Slightly hard times for me. Frustrated at finding an affordable AND available barber/hairstylist. I have a nice Wahl clipper kit, charged up & ready. Seriously considering doing my own pixie. Kingsley, I love how you approached & executed this adventure! My already very short hair badly needs a cut. You may just be the inspiration I needed to cut my own hair again. 😊

After watching this video over and over again. I purchased clippers and my husband and I cut our own hair. I wear a pixie cut similar to your. Thanks for giving me the confidence to do this. We liked how our haircuts turned out.

February 27, 2024: I bought the same Remington clipper kit during the pandemic, and after watching and re-watching this video (and finally getting my hair cut by a professional stylist first!), I decided 2 weeks into my quickly-growing pixie to use the clippers and trim the hair at the neckline. Your video was very helpful! Thanks!

I've had a short pixie for years. It's quite thick and grows really fast. I was supposed to get it cut 2 weeks ago when we returned home from a vacation overseas, but we were put into self-isolation at home. Then our province closed all "unessential" businesses. I actually DO think that my hair stylist gives me an essential service. I usually have her cut it for me every 4-6 weeks and now it's been 8 weeks. It's starting to drive me crazy. Your video has inspired me to consider using the clippers I used to use to cut my husband's hair many years ago, when we were penny pinching. Thank you for posting this video. With your beautiful eyes and smile, you still would look amazing no matter how badly your home hair cut went.

Hi Pixie I watched many videos about cutting hair during covid. Yours was the easiest, step by step. I loved it! I wear my hair like yours. I was scared I’d make a mistake. But following you. That didn’t happen. Yes I bought a brand new clipper set with a vacuum attached no less. I cleaned my area and cut my hair at the same time 😆. Well girl it worked my hair came out great though it’s my first time. No I didn’t need all those fancy hairstylist or salon preparations. It was simple and to the point. What made your video successful is that you spoke in it at my level of emotions. And Horray !!! I did it. I may never visit a salon again and save a lot of money. Thank you. You are a great teacher. Best to you.

I think that very shorthair on beautiful girls just makes them more beautiful. Years ago, no one cut their hair as short as yours is, and I was surprised to see a woman whose hair was short. It was gorgeous.

I'm with ya. After chemo and losing hair, I decided I loved it very short. Now with Covid, I've been trying to do a cut with my husband's hair shaving kit. I think I botched mine. Should have watched her cut forst!

@@MBAhmo-ry3mg After I'd worked with the different sized guards on my husbands trimmer, I found that just going straight up the back to where the crown begins with the shorter length and using the next longest length for the crown has worked for mine. I just like it really short because I have naturally curly wavy hair and short short is best. You can hardly go wrong when you like it short, hahha!

I’m post chemo too. I didn’t get the lush chemo curls people always talk about, and because everything is closed I’ve got to take matters into my own hands. I couldn't possibly make it any worse then what it's already looked like lol. Keep fighting fellow warriors ❤️

Looks great. I did a pixie on myself and I used a 4 and a 3. My hair was shoulder length and I got tired of it. I’m happy with my pixie cut.

I get my undercut and sides shaved, and I am almost 52, lol. It feels good because hair touching my face and the back of my neck can be annoying. I've had long hair all my life, so the rest of my hair isn't short-yet, lol. I was scared, though because i didn't know how my Dad (he'll be 88) was going to react. You're never too old to get a 'what for' from your folks. He was cool with it, lol. My Mom didn't say anything because she can't see me (BTW, I don't live with them, lol). She definitely would've said something. My kids are always cool with my hair. Sorry, for this long comment to your post, but during this pandemic it's always nice to connect with ppl far away and you don't even know, lol. So, hello! How is your pixie now?

Thank you for doing this video. I don’t have the money to keep going to get it done and am desperate. You’ve given me the courage to try. My mother was a cosmetologist but she is no longer here to offer tips. I miss her terribly. My hairstylist for the last 20+ yrs. died last yr. after cutting my shoulder length hair to more of a pixie cut. Definitely should have done yrs ago. My very thin hair permed every yr. was ridiculous now that I see how bad it looked styled that way. Being 58 everyone says I look much younger. I think with your video I can do this myself. OMG Girl, you are just what I needed. I go every three weeks to have my hair cleaned up and the last time I had a haircut was February 28th. I literally can not stand my hair any longer. I've been joking about just buzzing all my hair off but after seeing you I think I have enough confidence I can do this too. Honestly anything is better then the way my hair look now. I finally gave myself a buzz cut just like yours 2 days ago. I've toyed with the idea for years. It's a little shorter than yours on the back and sides because the thickest clipper attachment we have is 1/2". The next step was going to be to cover the greys with henna and indigo as I've always done (my hair is very dark). But after seeing this video, I'm thinking why not leave the greys and bleach the rest to match them, lol. Plus I have a lot of white hairs in my eyebrows. You've convinced me. Tomorrow I'm going platinum...thank you for the incentive!! Your hair is beautiful!

We did the exact same! I used a No. 8 on mine first - that was plenty short on the top for me!! Especially for my first time to have a super short cut!

Gutsie lady...looks fabulous!!! I was due for my four week cut and of course my salon is closed. My husband called his barber and he cut my hair for me....what a relief. He actually did a very good job, followed my stylists lines. Can’t wait for all things to get back to normal, unfortunately I don’t think that is going to happen for quite awhile 😳😳 prayers to all for good health stay safe at home🙏🏻🙏🏻

Have been cutting my hair pixie style since senior in highschool. Now 73. But since my MS messes with my strength of my hands I go only to Barber. I used razor comb, Barber uses scissors. Both my husband and son have used clippers on their own. Love your video, am ready to try this. My hair grows so fast and thick grey so your extra short style will be great!! Thank you!!

I’ve worn a pixie for 10 years and confidence matters even more than a pretty face. Although she is gorgeous, she’s also wearing very flattering makeup which also helps me rock the pixie without looking boyish.

that is what I immediately thought when I saw her. I am older and usually wear my hair virtually like hers but haven't been to a salon since last July and since I am older my hair isn't as thick that being said I am still going pixie or shorter and I have clippers but I am not good with my hands- she'd look good bald, not me. She likes herself a lot .... How many times have we been told how thick her hair is ? And I also agree with the make up part ... I have this cut . And if u are not made up to perfection and dressed well ... You can come off butch . That! Was my biggest fear when I chopped . But again . Come on a perfectly shaped head ..😂 That’s strange .. And she’s far from perfect !

I used your video last night to cut my own hair! Except for cutting some spots too short, it’s totally fine!! It was so scary, but I was tired enough of my awful cut that I took the plunge and I’m happier than I was before for sure. Thanks for posting this-it was the only video I could find that didn’t involve a professional way to cut it….sectioning and all that. I could’ve never done that myself. You rock!!

I was 3 days away from my hair appointment when the salon closed down. Maybe I will go get some clippers and try this. Your haircut is so cute even before you trimmed it. I have very short hair too like you so this gives me hope. My color is almost gone and my gray is showing more and more but i could care less i just wish it was all gray. You are so cute and love you video. You are so brave to do your own hair, you go girl. My hairdresser would freak if I did my own hair but oh well I'm desperate. Short hair girls rock 😉

Same here! The son didn't even answer any calls four days before my appointment. So I'm doing what you said you might do. Better start checking everywhere because the good clippers are VERY hard to find anywhere. I had to order from Braun's and I should get them on Wednesday/Thursday and I'll be cutting mine. You should do it, your hair will grow back! Besides, I'm very sure it'll be months before you could even get an appointment to get seen and by then your hair will have grown back in. 😊 Good luck!

@@barbkeen1221 Thankfully my friend is my stylist she called me to make me an appointment again for the 9th then we got the 30 days added so now she is making masks for us she's so sweet. She has some very pretty fabric too. She also has Lupus so I want her to stay extra safe and carefull. All I have are the cheap clippers I bought but threw away the extra guides they give you. Stupid me lol. Stay safe and good luck on your styling.

I have a short pixie cut and have an appt on Thurs to get it shaped up, but am rethinking that. Why can’t I do it myself? You look great even BEFORE you cut it! And I am seriously thinking of taking control of my own hair - it will always grow back! Thanks for the video.

I've had mine exactly like yours, I cut it myself the same way exactly, and for 55 years I cut my own hair, but now I'm half way back to a short Bob! 😂 X I used to use gel on mine and spike it up!

Mine is now due a cut and I can’t get my hairdresser, I prefer mine as short as yours and you have given me the confidence to try it. Hair grows either way, and I need mine cutting every 3 - 4 weeks with how quick it grows. Xx Saved it to my playlist. Xxxx

I just did a pixie cut too😉 I did number 2 then number 3 graduation with the clippers up the back and sides. Then I cut the top with straight scissors first to get the length off then went over it with thinning scissors to take off the bluntness. Then a little texturising again with the thinning scissors and all done. My hair was almost down to my waist, but I wanted to grow out the box black dye I had been putting in it for many years. My intent is to go my natural silver (or whatever it’s going to be) lol I bleached out as much of the black box dye too to lighten it then put in a level 5 semi and from this point on no more colour just going to keep cutting til I’m 💯 naturalè 😉

I wish I could share before and after pictures!!!! You made this sooooo easy!!! I grew my hair out for 4 years from always having short hair styles; I’ve been maintaining the Marvel character Rouge color style for my hubby 😊; but ugh I’m not the maintaining type for touch ups and all the expensive products to keep my straight-wavy-curly hair (much like the chick in Brave) all in uniform; I am stoked and my hubby LOVES it too! Heya, another big thank you from me. I bought my clippers 2 weeks ago and it took me that long to get up the nerve to just do it! Finally did! My hubby said I did real good for the first try. I used the # layering as you suggested with exception to the bottom. I used a 3 since I like it really tight. I did a boo boo at the beginning, but was able to smooth it out...SO LIBERATING to have my pixie back after 6 months of jungle growth. Thank you for sharing this video!!!!!!!!

First of all, you are absolutely delightful. I found this to be instructive and entertaining. My mom found this video because she’s in the same boat and asked me to watch it so I could cut her hair for her. Your disclaimer actually put me at ease rather than put me off and made me feel that I can do this without putting my mom in an embarrassing position! This was a great video! I originally was trying to follow Brad Mondo's tutorial, but the bit with the scissors I couldn't get right. So halfway through I found your video and switched to the clippers on the top and its looking *good*. So I'll be using not only part of your technique but some of his too when it comes to the sectioning. I'm going to cut my hair from now own to save some money. So thanks again!

From the time I was a child (65 now) I’ve had a pixie and with nine kids it seems like the best idea! To this day I’ve always had short hair and just recently I took the plunge and buzzed the underneath with a 2 and am currently letting the top grow just a little longer to try to get some shape from a previous bad cut. I love, love, love short hair and so many women look so much younger than with long hair. Just remember…..it grows back. BTW….you look amazing, good job!

SO happy I accidentally came across this video! You and I have the EXACT same haircut. Same length, parted on the same side...OMG! I bought some clippers a few weeks ago so I can handle this at home because, like you, I usually go to the salon every four weeks to get my pixie trimmed up and my platinum blonde maintenance. Probably not trying to do a bleach and tone job at home, but this video will def help me get this long-ass (to us! haha) hair off my head. Thank you!
