Kinnikuman is the father of modern shonen that people outside most of asia throw that title on dragonball. To this day the influence is still felt. Youd still have your one piece narutos and such without dragonball because of kinnikuman.

This manga was more popular than Dragon Ball at the time. Akira Toriyama was jealous of him. However, for one reason or another, it was not imported to the West. This is a fact.

@@bonvoyage1984 Well the reason WAS pretty OBVIOUS lmao, and why Nisei/Ultimate Muscle was the only one that got imported. XD Brockeman is enough lol, not to mention the native people depiction XD Yeah, Yudetamago was still 17 years old when the duo made Kinnikuman.

Fun fact: outside of kinnikuman, meat( the short man) and terryman, all of the characters were fan sumbitted and the creator of one piece tried to send his character for years but they didnt use him. From that pandaman was born lol

The specific laughs you were talking about is because kinnikuman had a habit of making characters have unique laughs and one piece drew from that.

The recap doesn't properly explain that Kinnikuman, who's real name is Suguru Kinniku, was the prince of Planet Kinniku who was accidentally abandoned on Earth as a baby and became a superhero in Japan. Even after learning his true heritage and meeting his parents, he still needed to prove to them that he was worthy to inherit the throne due to his current reputation as a lazy and incompetent hero, which is what led to him to start training and competing in various tournaments against the strongest Justice Chojin, or superheroes, on earth and eventually battling against the Devil Chojin, Perfect Chojin, and the Princes of Destiny (those Kinnikuman Doppelgängers who showed up near the end of the episode).

it should've been an 1 hour recap, but like i said this one kinda helps lol, the only arc i thought that it didn't cover a lot was the golden mask one, but it's possible they will show more especific flashbacks of the past for more appropriate moments, i've seen some of it from the trailers, but hey man glad it still kinda helps, but btw Super pheonix was not Suguru's brother, his brother was the green mask dude that looked like a soldier, that's his older brother, Ataru Kinniku or Kinnikuman Soldier

Exciting to see a new Kinnikuman fan! I feel like most people are too intimidated by this being a continuation of an old anime, so I'm really glad to see you diving headfirst into this. I think you'll enjoy it a lot!

I dont see why. Dragonball z hit it big despite being a sequel anime. Heck ultimate muscle was a sucess despite being a sequel

Wow. I had no idea araki sensei held it in high regard. This series could have been as big as dragonball in the west if it was allowed to air the original anime during the bubble era, they did release the Kinkeshi figures and Famicom game here during that time, but censored the lore. They released Nisei but also heavily censored and changed the lore. Also Suguru is a better father than Goku

I'm hoping in a few years that the brand new Kinnikuman Series will be in english dubbed just like Sailor Moon Crystal, Cardcaptors: Clear Cards and Shaman King because I always wanted to hear what the characters voices sound like.

I was a bit disappoint that the Japanese writers weren't planning to do the reboot of Kinnikuman from the 80's because I always wanted to see the version especially the Scramble for the Throne Arc but I am willing to give this new anime series a chance but who knows maybe the writers will also be planning to do the sequel for Ultimate Muscle in the future. With the brand new Kinnikuman anime finally released I do think they should released the whole original Series in SBDS Blu-Ray as anniversary to celebrate.

There are Nazi characters in this work. In France, I heard that the episode in which the Nazi character appeared was the last episode.

Episode zero got all old anime main fights in 20min, 137 episodes, the manga 'continued' and it's way ahead but that's where this new anime will go from, from the end of the old anime onwards. Manga has more brutal / blood fights but the anime also set the bar for every battle-anime that went afterwards mid-late 80s

It's always neat to see somebody get exposed to the insanity of Kinnikuman for the first time. Obviously this 22 minute episode couldn't go over everything important from the 36 volumes or 165 episodes before this arc, but the necessary stuff was all there even if some characters and plot points were left out. The original Kinnikuman anime from the 80s and 90s is charming, but difficult to recommend due to an abundance of filler and the fact it makes changes to the manga's storyline and adopts a more comedic tone than it's source material. Despite being one of the original shonen battle series, the Kinnikuman manga is actually still ongoing, and the Perfect Origin arc is among the best and longest arcs in the series so far.

Kinnikuman wears a mask. He's an alien race where from birth you are given a mask to wear and if you ever remove the mask you're forced to commit suicide.

There were several games. It actually did come over in the west before dragonball through the m.u.s.c.l.e. collectible figurines in the 80s and the muscle nes game. The reason it didnt kick off is because they censored and changed the lore and didnt air the orignal two anime unless you lived in some parts of latin america and somewhere in Hawaii

i'm glad you like it! Kinnikuman is one of the greatest series ever in my opinion. I do recommend reading the original manga (you can find it on mangadex and its like the first 340 or something chapters), it's a truly unforgettable experience

As much as I wish they either remade the original series I've got to agree that there was WAYY too much anime to remake. it'd be like trying to remake all of the original Dragon Ball.

Brocken jr's dad, Brockenman, was a German wrestler who was a Nazi. And in the 80s that was a big nono. So it was cancelled outside of Jappan.

No it wasn't. They just didn't show it in alot of places and took out the swastika. Brocken Jr is still in the nes game

@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881 i stand corrected when it comes to the manga. But the anime never made it to the US due to Brockenman, and most international dubs also got cancellled because of that.

That is ultimate muscle where 4kids could censor it if needed and japan self could keep it out. Not OG Kinnikuman.
