I love how Kirby always ends up fighting in the sky or outer space for the last boss for these games. How literally epic.

Dark Warrior/Swordsman is still my absolute favorite Kirby Character and he's just a disguise/faux character! Not even named that... He's just such an awesome enemy design, and with a serious attitude, too! Most "heartless" bosses like Dark Matter don't respectfully challenge you to a battle.

I always misinterpreted his goggles as being a mask with two dark-socket angry eyes; his actual pupil would have been the furrowed-brow between 'em.

Even though I know it’s a technological limitation, I love it when the percussion drops out for a little during the dedede fight, it gives the song a breakdown feel.

I remember how hard Dark Matter's 2nd phase is. Took me so many tries. You make it look easy! Though it has been years since I've touched the game.

I've heard that if you take long to defeat the 2nd form of Dark Matter, Kirby will begin to take damage because of atmospheric re-entry, until he dies.

This was one of the first games I beat, and I think I got this secret ending first since I got all the rainbow drops. I beat it the regular way (the normal ending, the shadow just flies away and then you get a credits which shows all the enemies in the game as a parade while showing their names, like a lot of games did back then), and had to beat it this way again because I didn't want THAT to be the ending locked in for all time (I was a weird kid - I would think of games like parallel universes and I didn't want the "bad" ending for the people of that universe, basically...) But it was such an awesome experience. You get this sword, go flying into space, and it was such a hard and endurance fight for a 10 year old. Then you see the explosion and think maybe Kirby died (because being a kid and all), then the music starts and you see Kirby wake up, being protected by the power of the sword, and that song still, to this day, two decades later, makes me smile and a get a little misty eyed. I know part of it is just being an adult now, but they seriously don't make stuff (games, stories, etc) like they used to. So much reliance on complex plots and graphics, but a sword fight in outer space and then spreading a rainbow across the world has its own unique charm...

the thing i like about kirby games (and video games in general) is that you first start playing it and have no idea what you’re doing, so you have to keep dying and getting a bunch of game overs to understand what’s going on and how to play it

It means that this game is automatically a MUST-HAVE, not that is wasn't one before, but this makes it moreso.

I loved this final battle except for how slowly Kirby moves. It's such a drag. No wonder Dark Matter looked more difficult than it actually is.

Back then, dark matter and nightmare would both have you fight in the air and if you took to long kirby would hit the ground and die.

So in this game, you get to do battle with the frog man's Rastafarian ghost. Man, I was really missing out in 1995.

Can anyone explain why the amount of damage you inflict on both the sword guy and dark matter seems to vary so much? I think hitting the projectiles back at a closer range will *sometimes* knock off like three to four blocks, and then if you hit dark matter from behind it'll *sometimes* do that same amount of damage.

When I first fought Dark Matter, I didn't know how to defeat him in the second fight. So one trick I tried was wait until him and Kirby reached the planet down below, and the atmosphere would kill him. Turned out that killed me, lol. But I thought that'd work since it worked when completing "Rocket Knight Adventures." Too bad you didn't make this video with Super Game Boy. Would've been able to see this in color, and I could've seen the rainbow that way. :)

This was one of the first games I ever played as a child, and probably the game that I've gone back to the most over the years. I never actually ended up collecting all the...whatever you call those collectable star things, so this is the first time I've ever actually seen the true final boss and ending. And my God, this was...decidedly underwhelming, unfortunately. Maybe it's harder in the actual game, but it doesn't really look particularly difficult, and even then, the music is just eh and the ending itself is okay I guess but nothing nearly as cool as I was expecting. Ah well. I still love this game, but at least now I know I haven't been missing much, heh.

I've been fighting Dark Matter for hours now, and the one time I beat him was the very first time I got to him, where he killed me after I had already won... It's such an unfair fight, and I'm pretty sure you have to be Japanese to beat this guy's second form...

God his lighntning strikes are so unfair. Since you csnt dodge them you just have to make sure to go in with full health. And when he shoots bombs you have to ve fast to get behind him so you can explode 2 of them to do more damage.

I wonder if DDD was possessed in the first Dream Land. Oh, that's why he was sleep fighting this time, he was possessed? I've only played the first Dream Land. That was neat though; you didn't get hurt fighting any of the last bosses and you kicked their butts easily. Nice one. :) 5/5
