Oh, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Visiting the Brough of Birsay was a downright spiritual experience for me.... not to mention all the other Neolithic sites. St. Magnus & the cemetery are also an interesting afternoon experience. ❤

Ring of Brodegar, Scara Brae, Maeshowe and Scapa Flow (strangely empty space, but so historically significant) were my favourites. What a lovely place Orkney is ❤

If they are still available it’s worth taking a high level tour of the cathedral. But you will need to be fit, slim & not afraid of hight.

We visited Orkney a few years ago on a tour out of Edinburgh. Wonderful time, loved visiting Skara Brae, Maeve Hows and the Ring of Brodgar. Such rich history. Would love to visit again. ❤️🇨🇦

I'm one of only 3 Canadians living here..would have loved to meet you ,eh. Lol Maes Howe is about a 5 minute drive and there are soooo many hidden treasures here .

I will put your “name” in my address book and be in touch if we plan to visit again, eh. Maes Howe was amazing, but what I will always remember is the cows grazing in the field coming to us at the fence! lol.

@@hermacoutts8587There are folks here who have been born and never left this island ....and the cows (Kai or Coo as they call them here) are curious indeed ....I hope you saw some seals as well...they are even more curious. It is incredibly windy here often with gale force winds so hopefully you weren't too windswept when you were here ,lol :)

@@WindsweptCanadian , love the hairy koos. We live in Victoria BC, the wet coast, so we’re prepared for foul weather. But when we left home end of July we had had some rather hot weather, so we’re looking forward to cooler Highlands and Orkney. No complaints about the weather from us. 😀😀

Nice video, but some basic errors: Kirkwall 's "main drag ", Albert Street, is not a pedestrian precinct, even though it may look like it. Usually, it is a one way street with traffic coming from the harbour towards the Cathedral, so watch out for vehicles! You also appear to confuse Orkney with our more northerly neighbours, Shetland. The main economic drivers for Shetland are North Sea Oil and fishing. Here in Orkney, the main driver is agriculture, followed by tourism.

That's what I expected to see when I moved to the UK 4 years ago. However, there was almost nothing left from these traditions in London and I moved back to Bulgaria a few months ago. It is inetersting to see the folklore. Maybe some day I will visit Scotland.

Agriculture is more important to the Orkney economy than fishing, especially beef farming.
