Hi, Christine. I was rewatching this video before starting my mass-making of notebooks for my travel companions and noticed the trouble you had making a knot in the end of your sewing thread. Hopefully I can describe an easier way for you. Hold the eye of your threaded needle in your right hand between thumb and index finger with the end of the thread tails pinched against the needle. Take the thread closest to the end in your left hand and wrap it back to front three times around the shaft of the needle. Pinch that wrap with your left thumb and index finger and let go with your right hand. Tap the eye of the needle up so you can grasp the pointy end and pull it straight up while hold the wrapped area with your left hand. Voilà, you now have a knot at the end of your threaded needle. Trust me, it takes much longer to read how to do it than to actually do it. I think you'll find this handy. Best wishes, Carol

Just to clarify, the cut ends of the threads need to be pointed back towards your right hand prior to wrapping the needle shaft.

I love that you took the time to provide these instructions. Thank you. And I am going to read them again AFTER another shot of caffeine. I'm going to do it step by step with a needle and thread.

Finally got to put this together! I love these little books and I am sure I will be making more. I had to do a few adjustments as my printer doesn't seem to be willing to do what is required, grrrrrrr. Even still it came out not to bad!! I will be calling epson to figure out why I have lines. Thank you again lovely human for all your hard work which makes it so much easier for people like me!

Hmmm. Wonder what your printer's in a snit about. Lines in the prints can sometime mean clogged ink heads. But I'm not an expert, I just play one on youtube ;-)

So I tried the upholstery thread on a booklet. It took some practice to get it to lay snug - because it was doubled. I'm finishing a thicker notebook. Can you tell more about the waxed thread you mentioned at the beginning? Thanks.
@sparkbirdstudios
@sparkbirdstudios Жыл бұрын
Huh. Of all the threads I explain in the video the regular upholstery thread is, to my mind, the thinnest. Even doubled. I wonder if you're using a different type than I did. But to answer the question, waxed bookbinding thread is a very sturdy, usually linen, thread like this: www.amazon.com/Lineco-Natural-Brown-Black-Thread/dp/B015D9E6UM/

@diana.findingstory Жыл бұрын
@@sparkbirdstudios Thank you. The upholstery thread is thin. I just couldn't tie it taut. The waxed twine I use looks thinner than this. I use some from the beading aisle. Okay, thank you.
