Liu kang is one of the most admirable protagonists ever. He chose to abandon the love of his life instead of crafting himself a timeline where he's with Kitana, living happily forever. Instead he chose to relinquish his powers to give everyone else a better chance at living a peaceful happy life. One of the better main characters in gaming

Liu Kang messed up the timeline just as much as Raiden did. Being Honorable with good intentions doesn't mean shit because messing with timelines never goes well. Everyone blamed Raiden for being a bad protector but looks like he is way better than Liu Kang.

Liu Kang's face at 2:20 is so sad. He really wants to be with Kitana, but he always prioritizes his responsibilities before his own happiness. Hopefully he'll pass his role to Geras before he passes so he can enjoy life.

Maybe or maybe not, but it’s so saddening to see Liu Kang and Kitana be denied so much. Maybe one day I’d like to see Liu Kang live a happier life before he passes, but it will depend on what direction NRS decides to go in.

I'm pretty sure Liu Kang can't pass at this point. He's divine and the Keeper of Time, so he doesn't age. He'd have to be killed by someone or something... which is even more tragic tbh.

@@GlitchTheLitchHe relinquished his powers as time keeper. Then he had to regain them in order to face titan Shang tsung. He lost his immortality because of it. Apparently he will live still for eons, but he is no longer immortal.

Liu Kang's ending gave me hope: He'll relinquish his role sooner rather than later, Geras does him a solid and puts him in His Kitana's timeline, and they ride out his last few years (eons).

Still I don't know man... By the looks of the story, the fact there was no hints of Liu and New Kitana having or at least hinting at having a special bond, and also New Raiden giving the same exact line Liu gave Kitana in MK9... I think this one could be pretty much over. 30 years, of absolute stalling and nothing in the end 🤷🏽‍♂️

@@HawaiiVenom392 Not necessarily. He could still give his powers to someone else, before his end is near. It is just a matter of when he decides to do it and also who would be worthy of wielding it. It doesn't have to be only when he is in his last days... Raiden gave his powers to Liu, way before he was in the verge of death in MK11. We could totally see the same case in this new timeline, but of course knowing that once giving up, he'd not be able to have it back again, which would be for the better, as Liu never actually wanted this power to begin with. But knowing Liu Kang, he will do it only when he sees the proper time to do it and also a person worthy of having it.

For those who don't realize, once Kitana realized that was her love, he referenced the last 3 games. Their fight in Shang Tsung's courtyard happened in 9 the koliseum happened in 10 and Kitana became Khan in 11 when she killed Shao Khan

If you think about it from Kitana's perspective, it would be pretty creepy if a literal god told her that in a past life, they were lovers. It's also important to keep in mind that New Era Kitana is a very different person who lived a very different life, and did not have the experiences which put her into the path of Liu Kang which led to them falling in love in the MK11 timeline.

@@ginsengaddictalso Liu isn’t just a god, he is the GOD, this is the man who started this entire universe from scratch, either of them having a thing for each other would be mad weird, Liu is essentially her and everybody else’s creator and she may be 10k years old but Liu is literally multiple billion years old. Liu has a thing for his specific kitana and always will but him having feelings for this kitana would be weird as hell. I like that Liu just doesn’t even talk about he and past kitana’s relationship with her, he’s ascended above that shit.

Liu Kang character development when it comes to main protagonists is truly underrated. He went from 4 time Mortal Kombat champion, got killed and became a vengeful zombie, won 2 Mortal Kombat tournaments and died (AGAIN) in the second timeline to become an undead revenant only for the past & future of the second timeline to merge where we learn Kronika keeps getting Liu Kang killed in EVERY timeline that she or Raiden resets only for Raiden to finally get tired of them hoeing my boy and turn him into a god powerful enough to end Kronika and finally make a better timeline and humbly give up his power over the hourglass and accept his role as protector of Earthrealm.

For the love of the Elder Gods, just make this two an endgame, please! It has been FREAKING 30 YEARS of they wanting to be in each others mouth and tongue, but always something preventing them to make a step forward (Liu's duties in Earthrealm, their deaths, their timeline destroyed...). How Liu would fare in Edenia/Outworld as Kitana's husband? How it would be their dynamics together? How would they support each other when threats appear? Answers fans will never have. Unbelievably ridiculous. 30 YEARS! All MK, Liu has majority of the times been the focus, as the good guy, with golden heart, who seeks to see the good in people, but at the same time unhappiness just follows him always. Many times, he clearly says he would've loved to have a normal life, where he could cherish the smaller and simplest aspects of it, but no matter what, more and more duties are thrusted upon him, preventing him to spend his time with the people and the person (Kitana) he loves. It sucks. Now there is a chance New Kitana may or may not have a new relationship, which could end up better developed and all the fans will support that new relationship of hers, because in this day, everything is "I SHIP THEM... 🤦🏽‍♂️", and this one will be in the trash, because NRS couldn't even do what they did with Johnny and Sonya, which was give them a step forward. I think, if the fans don't make sure NRS and Dominic Cianciolo to know, this 30-year history between one of the mascot couples in FGC is over in this new era.

You are right. Also like you a have a bad feeling, that the thing with the new love interest will happen, which will be a little bit 😬 awkward. Yes, on one hand this is a new Kitana and no his(Titan Kitana), but what we do with the him and his Kitana? 30 years of nothing, that's it? And in the same time we have a new variant of Kitana, probably, happy with someone else.

You notice that neither Kabal, Erron Black, Jacqui, nor Cassie are Titans? So every tower ending in MK11 is canon in these fractured timelines Kabal and Cassie gave it up, Erron didn’t even become a Titan, dumping the hourglass into the sea of blood. And Jacqui made the timeline where she couldn’t exist to save her dad from becoming a revenant

Kitana and Liu Kang belong together, they belong to each other. I hope in some timeline, in some Mortal Kombat game, they are allowed to have each other. Funny how one can care so much about a character in a fighting game. Kitana has been my favourite since the 90s and recently I have also 'fallen in love' with Sindel. Her good version is something and someone to be admired for sure.

Ah. So when Tanya told Johnny this Kitana "has her eye on another" she meant Liu. Which was obvious, but, I haven't seen these dialogues with Geras until now. My guess is we'll see either the return of OG Kitana permanently at some point or the new one will fall for Liu. Not surprising if they go that route and probably for the best. It's a 30 year old relationship that SHOULD be fleshed out more than it has been in the past.

I know how you feel. I wish they made it so far more than you know, but I guess that Liu Kang wanted to give Kitana a better life with her family, to give her what she and Mileena deserved. And as for the developers, I think they wanted to show Kronika as a fair challenge for Fire God Liu Kang, which meant erasing the MK9-11 timeline, and Kitana was most likely either murdered or left behind in Aftermath, and even if Liu Kang freed her, I don’t know how she’d be brought with him to the Dawn of Time, and not even she can live for countless eons. I also think that what they did shows Liu Kang’s true character, letting Kitana choose her own life instead of making her Liu Kang’s wife, showing more compassion and giving mortals their own ability to choose rather than governing all their existences and giving many of them lives they deserved.

Ryu and Chun Li have never had a special connection that goes beyond friendship and admiration. Kitana & Lui Kang have showed that they both have feelings for one another for such a long time & the payoff (despite it being short) makes sense considering these two love each other. Ryu and Chun Li do not. There’s no romantic tension between the two. And further more, Ryu lives the lifestyle of a monk. A warrior who’s journey is to always to seek strength while honing in his tranquility. While Chun Li aims to teach a local community kung fu while also raising Li Fen. Chun and Ryu ending up together would make absolutely 0 sense. They’re nothing more than just friends.

LiuTana are doomed by the universe. Beautiful souls meant for each other, yet every obstacle gets in their way. Been that way since MK4, with Liu no longer being immortal, let's hope Geras inherits the Keeper of Time role and allows Liu to spend however long he has (realistically, it's probably a million years) with Kitana finally.

I don’t agree that “devolved” is the right word. It got pretty nuts but it was still good and fun. But, yes, everything up to this point was incredible imo and I still look forward to seeing more of the stories to be told in Liu Kang’s new era specifically. I don’t mind the multiverse but I’d still prefer it to be less involved. Maybe some kind of peace treaty where alternate timelines agree to stay isolated from one another. Maybe a counsel of time keepers or something to maintain some order so we can focus primarily on this timeline that was set up so nicely in the first 12 chapters of the game.
