This is why I'm terrified of trying projects like this. It's always a good idea to practice on a faux surface before attempting any big or expensive project. You can use foam board or even heavy cardboard until you feel confident with your technique. Practice makes perfect. Your countertops look great 👍

If you don’t like the end result you can just try again. I always use a hairdryer to disperse the colors if they are too saturated. It’s my fear to do my nice dining table that needs it so badly but I’ve just got to go for it. No one in the West Los Angeles area does this yet. I’d like to really get to a good consistent result and then offer it as a service.

That’s really one of the best benefits about this is that you can do it over, right on top. The look has grown on me but we plan on changing it up when we redo our kitchen. And I think that’s great idea. You can practice with scrap wood. My husband and I have been and made some really cool items.

@@simplysophi I’m ok with your results, btw. I’d love to see your end result. I’m gonna give the “dirty pour” a try. It’s more resin to be sure but I’d rather get the right effect using extra product than a sub par result with too sparse trying to save a few dollars.

Thank Heaven’s for hubby’s who keep us grounded!!! In the end, you guys did a great job. Sorry it wasn’t exactly what you wanted.

Seriously! I'd still be in a closet crying if it wasn't for him lol.

I’ve done several stone coat counter tops and they are amazing ! Very easy process and easy to learn

Yes they are! We've done a few more since this and it definitely gets easier

hey, team work, that's what matter. I wanted to ask you if the white or transparent coat has yellow at all? I am about to build a house and I am still debating if going with real stone top counters, or if it's worth it to do it with epoxy, and my biggest concern is the stain and the yellow mainly, so a video of after a year review would be awesome, thanks.
@simplysophi6 ай бұрын
Yes it has yellowed. More so on the counters next to the stove not as much on the island.

Does epoxy resist heat ? If these are laminate counter tops it’s easier & cheaper to just replace them what what ever color pattern they want ?
@simplysophi12 күн бұрын
I made an update video with the pros and the cons. I would say it is heat resistance. Whether it’s cheaper to just replace the laminate that idk. Kitchen Counter Epoxy 2 Year Update kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibeYeLNoqcy5mnk.html

It looks very nice. Was this from Stonecoat countertops or somewhere else? Recently I have been watching RK3 designs they do epoxy and it is really cool. Maybe you have seen theirs? Yours are beautiful.
@simplysophi Жыл бұрын
We use Stonecoat. I haven’t seen theirs but I’ll definitely look it up, we have so many projects on the board. I want to make an epoxy a desk.

I have painted and marbled bathroom counter. Need to epoxy resin next. I painted kitchen counter but didn't marble them ..just want clean white countertops. Did epoxy but not perfect. Will sand down and epoxy again. The good parts were excellent. Shiny like glass. Had ugly laminate. Please always read and follow instructions. Fortunately I'm not a perfectionist. Im willing to try and learn as i go along. Mistakes give me the opportunity to do better next time.

That was GREAT! Thanks for the honesty - and humor. I learned a lot as well. Appreciate you sharing. I'll be starting on my kitchen soon. Probably will need your husband's telephone number :-)

How ha e your counters held up since you redid them?
@simplysophi6 ай бұрын
very well actually. The only thing is they stain easily. I bake and cook a lot, food dye and things like curry stain and it's hard to get it out. There's no way I can really explain it but after a while the stains disappear, but it takes a while.
@anthonywhittaker43216 ай бұрын
@simplysophi thank you for the response. That happened to me in the past so this time I went with the black marble to help prevent the staining with the black base. It's always a learning process. Yours look great though

I don't understand why would you be so negative at the end of your project knowing that this is what you going to stay with for a long time. If you don't like it redone it again😊
@simplysophi6 ай бұрын
I didn't think I was being negative, just honest. It wasn't the vision I was going for. It's grown on me but definitely will redo it in the future
