Looks good. Wondering why your p-trap doesn't have it's own little clean out on the bottom so you don't have to disassemble the fitting closest to the wall.

It always disturbed me to see drain outlets installed so high. Really tests the limits of how short you have to make the sink drain outlets! Is there a reason why the drain outlet couldn't have been made lower in the original construction? I've seen so many installs where the main drain outlet is higher than the entrance level to the p-trap. Does this configuration not work at all or just doesn't work well? Excellent work, btw.

I agree 100%. The rough-in drain is way too high in this install. I usually rough mine in at 16" from floor, but I always check to see what style of sink is being installed. Some sinks have extra deep basins and would have to be roughed-in lower.

I thought the plumbing codes require that TY to have a baffle in it, am I wrong? Also why is the kitchen being remodeled and no garbage disposal being installed? I have only seen one property here in S. FL that did not have a garbage disposal.
@PROSDIY
@PROSDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Hi jeffostroff, I'm not sure what you mean by a baffle in the TY? Maybe we are using different terms? Garburators aren't as common in some cities in Canada because there are individual household bins that the cities pick up for compost. For example Calgary and Toronto have these programs. The reason there wasn't a garburator installed in this video is because it's a rural location on a septic system. Thanks for the questions! All the Best!

So basically if the homeowner wanted a disposal they are screwed because the rough plumber put the rough drain too high in the cabinet?
@denisel4736

Could you get a taller cabinet base and make the countertop and sinks higher to accommodate a disposal? Might not be 'code' but that's an idea....

Great job! You sound Canadian. Is it a norm in cold regions to use ABS piping for drainage? Or anything else? I was looking for a good tutorial for my kitchen plumbing project. Cheers from Houston, Texas.
@PROSDIY
@PROSDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Wagner! It is more common to see ABS in residential homes here. It comes down to what your local supplier carries more of. ABS is slightly faster to install because it uses cement only, and PVC uses a primer and cement for it's connections. You really can't go wrong with using either ABS or PVC. PVC has a higher heat resistance and I think this is why it's the preferred tubing in the States. ABS will warp if left in the sun. I learn so much from these comments. Someone referred to ABS as California fittings because apparently they mostly use ABS there. If I were you I'd use the piping that is most common and approved in your area. You're correct, I'm from Alberta, Canada. Cheers from your Northern friend :)

Thanks for the video. Very helpful. I am wondering why you don't use male end trap adaptors? This saves the step of cutting small sections of 1-1/2" pipe to fit the lower sections. Is there a reason for this, or is it just your personal preference?
@michaelmcguire8811
@michaelmcguire8811 2 жыл бұрын
Legitimate thought/question: you said not to have the drainage run "up hill", then proceed to put in a p-trap which goes down, then up. I have always been under the impression that as long as the drain doesn't try to go higher than the source, it's ok. Their original install went "uphill" but not higher than the bottom of the basin. So there's no reason it wouldn't work, right? It wouldn't work for the dishwasher install, true. But for a simple sink install, it would be alright. Theoretically.
@tristancameron7145
@tristancameron7145 Жыл бұрын
P-traps are designed to hold water to prevent methane gas from coming from the septic/sewage up to your living space. The original plumbing before he removed everything would gaurenteed drain very slow. The only portion of waste piping holding water should be the P-trap. Deep trap is always a poor idea, theoretically yes it will drain but you will fail inspection everytime

Great info! How do you know if a vent is needed? There is an ABS vent stack on the outside of my house, can I assume its connected to the kitchen sink drainage? Washington state, 1940s home with updated plumbing
@PROSDIY
@PROSDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, How does the drain rough-in enter the cabinet? Through the bottom or the back? If it's coming from the back of the cabinet, I would assume it's connected within the wall. Another way to tell is to check in the attic if a vent pipe is coming up above the sink area. It is common for the kitchen vent to enter into the attic and then run horizontal and tie into the main vent stack, or it can pop out of the roof as an individual vent as well. By checking in the attic you can confirm that it is the kitchen sink vent that you are seeing exiting the roof. Hope this helps. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks!

@@PROSDIY drain is through cabinet bottom and the vent stack comes from the corner of the house exiting to the outside and running up external corner. The sink is 6 feet away from this corner. I’m doing a sink in a newly framed wall, is there a code height from the floor for the outlet into the wall?
@PROSDIY
@PROSDIY 3 жыл бұрын
They're a few factors that determine this. Height of countertop, depth of sink, garburator or no garburator. Most standard kitchen sinks are roughed in at 16" - 20" from the floor to center of drain. There's no code for height of the drain outlet in the cabinet. Too high is a big problem though because it may not have enough slope to drain. Thanks for the question.

Is in this case already connected in the wall and going to roof or something?
