My husband is from the UK and he could not deal with the slowness of U.S. tea kettles. He bought a European kettle, changed the plug and we upgraded one outlet in the kitchen. It's so useful to have that upgrade available and of course, for as much as we use our kettle, it's totally worth it.
@kimiya777
@kimiya777 Жыл бұрын
Is a European kettle an electric kettle or is there a difference between electric kettles in the US vs the UK?
@JayLooney
@JayLooney Жыл бұрын
@@kimiya777 There's a difference between electric kettles in the US vs the UK. The difference difference really starts in the countries electrical grids and ends up in the kettles. The US standard is 120V and the UK standard is 240V, that means that UK kettles can be (and in fact are) designed to use more electricity in order to heat things faster, about twice as fast.
@neilpickup237
@neilpickup237 Жыл бұрын
@kimiya777 It is how much power an outlet can provide which determines how quickly a kettle can boil - not the voltage. Power is voltage multiplied by how many amps the outlet can provide. In the US, a 15A outlet can only provide around 1700 Watts, and a 20A outlet 2200 Watts, while a typical UK (and European) outlet can provide around 3000 Watts Electric kettles in the UK are typically between 2200 watts and 3000 Watts.

Yes, cool indeed. But will it convey the wok hay needed in most chinese cuisine. I'm stubborn not because of the convection stove, but the price of electricity is relatively higher in my country. Even some laundry owners use gas to power the dryer.
@tubulartuber

@@senadzri Solar panels could be an option. Wouldn't need an expensive setup just for a stove. If you want wok hei, just use a handheld torch and torch the food gently from above--it's the combustion of oil particulates that gives the wok hei flavor

As someone who has had both an induction(new), gas(very old) and electric(mondernish) kitchen. I would take the old gas kitchen anyday. That stove was literally older than me and performed better than any induction range I have used. I wish induction was as good as he says but in my experience its just a better version of electric which is not better than gas.

With the induction wok, can you lift the wok off the burner and toss the food as is common with wok cooking, then put the wok back down onto the burner and have it continue cooking seemlessly? The reason for my question is that with many induction surfaces, the burner will turn off automatically if it doesn't sense a pan, and you have to manually turn on the burner again.

Hey there could you do a video on your Wok - seasoning, maintenance, and cooking basics? I got the same one because of that short you made a while back. Everytime after I season it, it will eventually fail and rust. I tried various methods of seasoning and it seems like the problem is that while I'm cooking, my metal spatula chips the polimerized seasoning and exposes the metal? Not sure but my first cook after seasoning is perfect but each one after is worst until everything is sticking and burning. Would love to learn from your expirences with this tool. Thank you!

After seeing one of your livestreams, I was wondering about the Aga! I know that you're super into sustainability and everything, so I was wondering what your thoughts were on it? All the models I have seen have been the sort of always-on/part of the central heating type, so I'm super curious as to whether you leave yours on all the time, what the energy consumption is like doing that compared to an oven, and so on? They've always appealed to me, the prospect of having one that is also environmentally friendly would be big for my future (assuming I could ever afford one!!!). I heard a few years ago about using them as energy storage units, in order to distribute electricity load throughout the day (for example, heating up when there is low energy cost/low grid load, and then using that heat to be able to cook with later in the day), I don't know if that is a factor? I've also heard rumblings about hooking them up to a Stirling engine for a similar process to the way that people use their electric cars as batteries for their house. I could never find an update on that idea, but it would be cool.

I've been looking into AGA and the newer all-electric range series (eR7 ... which I believe is what is shown in the video). This particular model isn't the model that is "always on" (they have various models along with various fuel types). The beauty of the all-electric version is that all of the areas can be controlled individually with touch panels so they can also be set to various temperatures whereas the other model thar heats the entire unit up. Hope this helps.
