My wife recently bought a Bowl Lift model but decided she doesn't like it as much as her 27 yr old Classic. After 27 years it was definitely showing signs of lubricant follies. I had already bought grease and just needed some walking through. I watched all 3 of the videos and found them very instructional and easy to follow. Thanks for the time you spent putting these together.

Thanks for the tutorial! I suspected liquid got into my gear box after a poorly designed tomato sauce making attachment make my kitchenaid smell funny when on. Ordered the grease and a new gasket from you. Just performed the service. Took me about 2 hours periodically going back to your videos to make sure I was following the right sequence and right amount of grease. Founds lots of liquid in the gear box. Thanks for the good info and have the product!

Sir, you are a national treasure. I work with tools everyday as part of my job, and while I likely could've figured out how to regrease our mixer, your video saved me tons of time and frustration. I'm not a serious baker, but I like to try my hand at bagels and some bread now and then. Where you really are a treasure, is helping out all the moms that just want to bake some cookies with their kiddos and wouldn't have the first clue about how to grease up their mixer or fix up the one they got for cheap at a garage sale. You're the man, keep up the great work!

Recently had surgery so off work (firefighter/paramedic) n bored out of my grape!! Started getting into sourdough, made a starter n have been baking different stuff. Wanted to do a sandwich style bread, got out our mix master; 27yo wedding gift, that hasn’t been used in years! Wouldn’t start. Pulled up ur channel for the first time. Have checked the brushes, noticed the speed adjustment “bar” had some how come off the plate, took the plate off, put it back together, n adjusted the speeds. Works great n all thanks to ur channel!! Now I may delve into cleaning n greasing it. Thanks again

I just stumbled across this video and it is fantastic! My 5 qt tilt head, purchased in 1990, just recently started slowing down and yesterday it stopped spinning under thick dough... This video provided several troubleshooting tips I can try before committing to taking it to a repair shop, or just throwing in the towel and replacing my beloved 34 year old mixer! Thank you!

My kitchen aid stopped working and using mr mixer I was able to identify the problem as a broken worm gear, replace it and degrease it. it’s currently working better than ever! Thanks so much for making this! Just successfully regreased a K45SS some friends passed on to us. The two things I couldn’t make work were: - Getting the power cord out - the retainer was not sized to be removed by any amount of force. I was able to carefully set the upper body down with the cables stretched out at an angle, and they held together until reassembly. - Getting the little worm gear assembly pin out. I was still able to clean around it with Q tips, alcohol, and water spray. I ordered a new gasket from Amazon/Goodman’s (sorry, Amazon addict 😅), and luckily so, because the old one was torn in half. The washers were all surprisingly sturdy, also luckily because the ones I bought from Amazon were the wrong size despite specifying they were for this model. I also bought a round gasket not knowing what it was for, then figured out at the very end it was supposed to be a new wire guard, which I didn’t bother changing out. 😄 And a four ounce jar of food grade grease was more than enough even over packing the gears. I still had about an ounce left. Overall it was a surprisingly painless four hour process, once you get the grease out and use alcohol, the metal and gears inside look like new. Thanks again for all your help, amazing tutorial!

Very thankful for the videos you posted. Watched all three parts. They were great! So informative and easy to follow.. While preforming the operation we found that the factory had screwed into the red wire on the side and crimped it. Machine had never been opened so had to be from the factory. which explained some odd issues with the mixer, since it was new. So we uncrimped it the best we could, put a piece of electrical tape on for good measure. Carefully put it all back to together as per your instructions. Now the old mixer is up and running, literally better then new. Thank you so much!

I wanted to let you know what a help your videos have been to me. My machine isn’t very old and I barely use it, but the grease was leaking everywhere. I tried to find some one to service it in my area and the closest place was 3 hours away. I thought it was hopeless and was researching a new machine until I found your channel. I bought the one thing I needed which was a set of punches and followed your videos. It took me a couple of hours and sore wrists, but the machine is now re greased and working beautifully. Thanks for posting this. I have a 1984 KitchenAid mixer. Don't recall the model number or name, but it's the 4.5 quart bowl. I watched your video yesterday and did the regrease job today and it's amazing how the model was nearly identical to the one you worked on that was more than thirty years newer. Also interesting is the wear on that plastic worm gear. My mixer was made with what I believe is composite metal gears and they showed very little wear. I have used the mixer quite a bit in forty years and only had it serviced once about ten years ago. That service, I discovered today, was not done well. There was a lock nut missing and the guy used way too little grease. That may be why I've had a concern with how hot the machine has been getting recently, which is why I wanted to regrease and get a look inside. I can't get over how well this thing has held up for forty years and how little wear is on the gears. Thanks again. I couldn't find an authorized service center near me and now I can be my own service center.

We have one bought in 1998 with the flat head bolts holding the top to the housing. However, when I first took off the cap on the back of the machine (the very first screw to take off), a loose nut fell out of that cap. It measures to be a 10mm nut. I looked all over in the machine and can't find where that might go. We just bought grease and a worm gear from you. Good stuff!

Thank you for this great set of vids. I just re-greased a used red machine just like the one in your vid. The grease in mine looked nasty just like yours. When I started it up after I finished re-greasing there was a kind of crackling/splattering noise, like the grease was flying against the inside housing, at least that's what I hope it was. I can't tell you how chicken I was to turn on the machine when I was done. It's running fine, thankfully. I used a kitchen mixer grease product, gasket, worm drive gear from a kit on Amazon. I can't believe you only charge 50.00 for re-greasing. i used an entire roll of paper towels, a pile of cotton swabs, and dawn detergent to wash off the gears, et al. I am not OCD, just particular.

Love your video. We can't get the side tiny bolt out. The part you said is intimidating if you could help that would be great. Also the issue is that the piece that runs/is pushed by the spring isn't staying under the spring so we can get it on but after about 10 movements with the control arm is stops moving again until we sneak back on (from the back of the machine since we can't get that small bolt out.

@5:18 You need the opposite a rubber flat tip object and a hammer haha. But both work. I just fixed a leaking one for a friend. Took soooooooo much longer than expected but works like a charm now. Have to clean often it's a white one now permanently stained. But who cares when it works no leaks. Great job Dad. Oh btw. That pin to remove with the punch. Was a mother trucker to remove as you can see in this vid. Yes hit it hard.... (that's what she said) but it is a b**** to remove. But the job took me a hr I think since soaked the greasy parts to clean and had to use tips to get in and make sure all the oily substance was out. Also to use flat head screws smh. Wasnt that serious but so dumb so 1900ish haha. Another thing ibsee with this vid the one I did had a rubber kind of gasket @13:28 this one doesnt for some reason I wonder why. But hey cut cost to make and profit cant complain about it but if served a purpose why not add but if didnt then hey money saved. If has remove and clean it and under.

I would say yes, with how little it's used the grease is likely dried out! We reccomend a regrease/tune every few years

I am hoping to tackle my bowl lift mixer soon. I took off the back cap and beauty band and already know I have leaking oil. I’ve seen you here and primarily tiktok and notice you do mostly tilt head mixers. I’ve already noticed a couple differences in screws, but I’m guessing everything should be mostly similar. Should I be on the look out for anything major or do you have a different video I’m missing? Thanks for great tips and videos btw!

These are great videos! Thank you so much for all the little details you've taken the time to explain. I'm wondering if all this also applies to the KitchenAid mini 3.3L (e.g. 5KSM3311XBBM). I cannot find any videos showing the inside of one. Cheers

What have I gotten myself into?? I am not able to get the top piece off. I've taken out all the screws. The model is older than the one you have in the video. Mine is a model K-45, if that matters. It might be stuck where the big pin is located.

@@MrMixer316 I tried that. It partially came up so I scooped out some grease (it was brown 🤢) and it came loose. I just sent you an email about a new gasket for an older K-45. Thank you!!

Love your videos! My classic mixer was making an ever increasing awful noise and I was attempting to break into the things to re-grease the gears when I saw in your other video that the issue could be that the bolts holding the bearing bracket in place could be loose and causing the noise. Problem solve! However, after removing the rotary and the 4 screws, I could not get the upper housing off. With muscle I could separate the upper and lower housings by 1/4 inch. Would you know why this is the case?

I can’t find a video for my issue but I replaced the mixer gear hub recently as it was worn. Mixer works fine now but the front grinder/pasta attachment gear won’t spin. What am I missing?

Herm it would be hard to say without being inside, the housings could be separated a bit or its potential that your missing a pin/ don't have the gears aligned some how

Mr Mixer in KS! I watched your 3 part regreasing tutorial. Everything LOOKS great. However, I'm noticing an odd sound coming from under the end piece on the mixer. Not from areas I regreased. If there was a way to do it, I'd make a video of the sound it's making. Your thoughts are much appreciated. D'ee

I have been trying to remove that pin for days!!!! - tried penetrating oil, tried heat gun, put the mixer in freezer, hammered with the 1/8” punch from both sides! The pin almost seems to be cold welded in there - it has not budged AT ALL. Any other thoughts?!!!

Is there a video showing what a mixer sounds like and runs like if it needs a re-grease? I got a used one and it sounds a little rough, but just curious what an old one sounds like and if the re-greasing fixes the sound.
@MrMixer316
@MrMixer316 Жыл бұрын
Regrease can help with some sound but if it's a grind or a vibration sound it's likely related to other issues like damaged gears or a bad bearing bracket.

Finally managed to get the pin out of an Artisan and thought I was over the hump. However, it's about 17 years old and never been serviced. Now really struggling to remove the planetary without putting so much screwdriver pressure on the rim that I am bending it. Any thoughts?

Have you used two screw drivers at the same time?
@hardlands
@hardlands Жыл бұрын
@@MrMixer316 Yes. They probably could have been a more perfect sized blade for the job, but eventually have managed by rotating the planetary small amounts and using one screwdriver, getting deeper and deeper in, avoiding the internal gear. Eventually pried it off. Thank you very much for your immediate response though. Heading for part 2 tomorrow I think! Top man. Great video.

I’m working on my second mixer to replace the grease. I took the pin out of the planetary and now the planetary won’t come off. I used 2 flat screw drivers to pry the planetary off and I bent the planetary. I gave up for a while and now I’m trying again. I cannot get the planetary off at all. It will not budge. What do you suggest?
@MrMixer316
@MrMixer316 Жыл бұрын
Well unfortunately it's going to have to be forced off it sounds like. Usually prying takes it right off if it can't be pulled by hand. If you force it off we do have planetaries available

I can’t get the band to stay on now on the front of the mixer. I used the mallet and it fits on but just pops right back off. Is there a trick to get it to stay? I turned it several different ways thinking there was a groove it might need to catch but nope.

The paint that is on the 5 or 6 little ridges where it seats have too much paint which is causing it to slide down, trim a bit of paint with a razor off of the ledges and it should seat properly!

I have two lift type Kitchen Aids. 1 is 32 years old (my fave) and 1 is prob. under 10 years old. It seems all of your instructions are for tilt head mixers. Is there a difference in instructions? Also, the under 10 year mixer was recently gifted to me and the diff is HUGE ...it feels wonky, but I did watch your video re spring and washer replacement, which I will be ordering. It is also a bit loud and whiney....maybe needs grease? My old mixer has never been regreased, but also on the to do list as I cannot part with it. Please advise about the diff. in your instructions for tilt head v. lift bowl. thank you....getting ready to start dismantling. Victoria
