Kite fishing is easier than it looks. However, using a balloon is every bit as complicated as it looks. I've sent one too many into space.

great video just a quick question ... If you drift from 250 or so on an east wind to about 80 ft when you go to redrift whats the best way to do it? do you bring in all the lines?

Yes, when we are drifting and kite fishing off down-wind side of boat with flat lines out along up-wind side, we bring all the lines in and reset, however if you're fishing kites off cockpit/riggers behind the boat, you can power drift back out into deeper water without retrieving lines. - Capt Mike

Hey Capt Mike, I've got a pretty crazy idea but I would like to hear your input on it: This summer I plan on taking my new albury 23 over to bimini for dolphin and marlin and whatever else is willing to bite on the troll, but I want to try and kite fish for blue marlin with live bonito or skip jack as purely an experiment to see what could possibly happen. My plan is to fish two kites, one off the bow and one off the stern with purely one line on each, nothing more. Maybe a flat line on the back side of the drift to cover a larger area. I know that one issue I may probably face straight away is that the bonito or skipjack may be too strong and heavy for the kite to fly even in 15kt wind. Now I'm not going to fish a 15lb bonito probably closer to the 5lb weight or even less. My outfits still undecided but I'm going to either use 30 or 50lb outfits. Hopefully my crazy experiment comes together and I have success. But I would like to know what you think?

I think that including a helium balloon on the kite, even with enough breeze will help even with a single large bait. I think its a good idea but I also think you going to get sharked!

I agree helium balloon might be needed for it. Yes I am probably going to get sharked but if I can get passed the toothy critters then there might be a chance for a blue or yellowfin.
