Kites and spinners on an empty beach

Күн бұрынMy 2,059th kite video. After waiting ten days since my last fly, I was determined to get some items in the air, although conditions were not ideal. With an audience of zero, I put on a display which at least entertained me!

Jim, you created an amazing display on this beach. You have hundreds, perhaps thousands of viewers watching from around the globe. I love this music and the colourful spinners.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. My viewing numbers have decreased in recent times, which I think is due to changes made by KZfaq in their search algorithm. You know, of course, how difficult it is to understand how these things work. It doesn't really worry me, as I know there are some regular viewers who keep watching regardless of what KZfaq does (including spoiling everyone's videos with ads now, even if, like me, they have not monetised their channel).

I was happy to be flying again after a 10-day break, Ron. It felt much longer, since this is supposed to be summer and I should be flying much more often.

I love all spinners, and the SpinFlower is outstanding. A tribute to Gomberg Kites, whom so many of us were so sad to see go. I hope the weather improves for you since you are nearing summer! We are expecting our first big snowstorm this weekend. I’m still too chicken to fly in the snow and on lakes covered by ice like some of my diehard northern compatriots do!!! 😮 😊

Gomberg Kites was certainly a big loss, Mary. I agree with you about the snow and ice - best avoided, I think, and I hope you are keeping warm in your cold season.

Great display Jim hopefully your weather improves it’s been a crazy year for flying for everyone Winter is with us now with dark days but hopefully get out soon for a fly in the cold weather Keep the fantastic videos coming it cheers us all up 🪁

Thanks, Brian. It's been a very disappointing year as far as the weather's concerned, but I got out again today, so that's two days in succession! Maybe things will settle down as we approach the longest day. Good luck with your winter fly, and I'll hope to see a video soon.

Your spinners always make a nice display even if it's just for your own pleasure. The deserted beach reminded me of the movie "The last man on earth." I wonder if he flew kites.

Nice display Jim. The Ultrafoil from behind appears to have four open cells centrally and the outer pair of cells closed. Is the Hengda 'foil closed off on all cells ? Great to see kites flying. In UK weather is diabolical. Haven't flown in 6 weeks plus !!!!!!! 😢

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Your observation about the foils is correct. I was going to point it out in the captions, but there's a limit to what viewers want to read, I think, and it would mean nothing to most people. How it affects the flying is a moot point - I think it probably helps the UltraFoil be the stable flier that it is, but the designs differ in other ways too.

My usual answer to that, Gary, is "Far too many!" I have disposed of quite a few in recent times, although I still have more than is probably sensible. As to actual numbers, I have never counted, nor have I felt any motivation to do so.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what to suggest. There are many different kites, and you need to find one that you like. I live in New Zealand, where we have no kite stores. All of my kites have been bought from America, China, and other places, and I don't know where would be best for you to buy. Maybe you can find a kite-flier where you live, and ask for some advice.
