The ball they protect is called a star ball if you find an empty one you can put apart of your memory in it. I you find one that is not empty you can hold it up to your temple and it will show you what's inside. Sometimes a kitsune will place some power in it. Kitsunes are also known as nine tails, and fox demon

I personally believe this is 100% true. I myself encountered a Katsune. My most beloved friend as a child. She lived with me from 3yrs old until i turned 18. She died, i made a deal with her. I will never forget her, and i have the orb in the myth. It came to me from the earth. My Katsune watches over me, and grants its power. In my visions she has six tails. It was a search for answers which lead me here. Truly magnificent.

The premise is said to have come from Chinese and Korean mythology, however the earliest Japanese stories hail from around 500 BC. Shinto lends to humans and animals living together in peace. The fox-spirit is mostly associated with Inari, goddess of rice. That is why she is represented as a fox/human.

I have also had dreams of a weird nature, one repetitive dream involves me as a Soviet soldier with others in a trench just as Germany starts to invade in 1941. The soldiers I'm with were tasked with defending a Soviet village behind the defense line, the defense of the village went well, though... the villagers were being evacuated as we heard tanks and a couple of minutes later dive bombers, an AT gun knocked out a German tank but the AT gun itself got disabled seconds later. Me and the other soldiers climbed out from the trench just as soon as we started getting overrun by German infantry and armoured vehicles, we started to run to the village to make our final stand... but as me and the men were running to the village I heard yelling, so I turned around and saw a German infantryman charging at me and then stabbed me to the right of my stomach. (where my birth mark is) As I layed on the ground... dying, I heard explosions behind me so I turned my body around to have the front part of my body on the dirt and then saw the village on fire as my fellow soldiers were crying out in pain, probably burning alive. But as I layed there... watching the village burn, I saw a red fox walk out of the fire, the fox then noticed me and ran to me, stopping right next to me then sat by my head. As my vision started to get blurry, the fox then started to lick my face slowly and a few seconds later I felt a tear land on my cheek from the fox... and then the dream ends. The weird but nice feeling I get comes from the fact that this was the first time the beautiful fox has entered my most repetitive dream ever... I hope that fox enters my dream again.

I know. It is very rare to see the kitsune myth explored in Western media. The only time I have ever seen it happen was in Supernatural (Amy Pond, anyone?). But it was just a one shot episode and they didn't have time to go into much of the mythology. I'm not even sure the mythology they were using was accurate. Jeff Davis seems to know his stuff though, judging from the way he has handled the werewolf mythology thus far. He may just do proper justice to the kitsune myths.

Kitsune are not evil. you are confused. They are mischievous, troublesome at times, and at others treacherous and full of trickeries. But by no means evil. merely... grey at most. But the other end are not 'good', either, merely less mischievous, less troublesome, far lighter, and brighter, making far better, kinder, and easier company than a wild one. That is not to say that aren't good, just that they retain a bit of mischief. It also doesn't mean a wild kitsune doesn't make good company, it's just less likely (far so, dare I say) that you might reach such a relationship.

Its a shame but in English its difficult to find much information on these foxes. You almost have to be able to read Japanese or you're stuck reading wikipedia, one kitsune book, and a handful of translated stories.

whats funny is by the time your done reading the Japanese book you were better off going to talking to the actual kitsune instead in Japan...less flipping through mostly empty pages of humans words and more factual actuality...
