You are honestly my actual hero, nobody does such in depth grooming videos like you. So clean and professional and everything is explained in an understandable way, no confusing fancy terms. You explain the purpose for all your actions too, it's great. So rare to see groomers explaining how they strip cockers. Thank you so much

As someone coming into a pure bred cocker in 2024, this is VERY informative. I will not be grooming the dog myself, but this is important to know what to look for, and how my dog SHOULD LOOK when taken to the groomers. Also the info about washing was also very important as I want to do the inbetween maintenance for the health and wellness of my cocker. Thank you so much for clarifying your products by the way. Helps me know what to buy for my cocker when doing at home care!

Hello Magdaline, thank you for your feedback . From the moment the back and sides are clipped , the coat changes . on a young age you can recover the coat and handstrip step by step . maybe this is an option ? thank you for your feedback . Kind regards. Kitty

This is overwhelming to watch. Such detail! I've only had one elderly cocker and I can't imagine 3-4 hours for the whole process. But how beautiful Rudolphe looks! Since I am now waiting to adopt my second cocker, also a rescue, I will dedicate myself to more careful attention as I've seen here in your video. Charlie will be a family dog, so the goal is his health and comfort - not that labor intensive perfect appearance you have produced! However, I have learned so much just from this video, techniques that I can employ, to care for my much loved dog. Thank you, Kitty! P.S. I have bookmarked your website so I can order products!

Thanks Kitty, it's beautiful to see your attention to detail. I just had my American Cocker groomed. I was very specific about wanting a show cut and really detailed about the techniques I wanted used, for example carding and stripping. I have watched many videos on grooming and felt very well informed for what I wanted. I made sure he had no mats prior to going to the salon so there would be no reason for him to be clipped. When I picked up my dog, I realized that he had been clipped along the ridge of his back and was shaved down too short, none of his length remained. His legs and feathers were pretty much untouched, and I can see all the clipper marks in the transition from his back to his skirt. No real blending was done. He is 11 months old and this was his first show cut. I was disappointed by the quality to say the least. My question is, will his hair grow back as smooth as it was before, and what can I do to make sure it grows back as normal as possible? Additionally, how much would one expect to pay for a grooming like the one you just demonstrated? I paid $125 USD for his trim. And lastly are there any resources where to find quality groomers like yourself. Not just salon buzzes. Thank you!
@TransgroomTV
@TransgroomTV 4 жыл бұрын
Just want to come back about the price you payed for grooming. We are not in the possibility to judge about pricing. cause it depends from groomer to groomer. Reckon that a groomer works approximately 3 - 4 hours on a cocker. the price is correct . if the techniques are correct . hope you understand that price.
@TransgroomTV
@TransgroomTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Gustavo, thank you for your comment and questions. To get to your question, it all depends on how long the coat has been scissored ? Was it just one time or several times? We can't assure the coat will grow back like before. It can be curly and wooly. Use good products to hold the coat straight , like shampoo, conditioner and sprays. To have the normale coat structure back like it should be , never let the coat be shaved or scissored anymore. It will take some time, but if you try to strip the coat again and taking the wool out, it should work. I wish you all the luck !!

I would get a refund because for a shave down that is too much. I would have told you I didn't know how to hand strip if you had asked, but I have the knives and stones and am more than willing to learn! I would have made a deal with ya for practicing on your dog. I'm sorry, you should speak to your groomer and see why she didn't admit to not knowing how to hand strip. Good luck!

This is a great video Kitty! Really informative. I would like to ask, my American cocker spaniel is almost six months old. I haven’t taken him to the groomers and right now his coat is still very wooly. I’ve bought a stripping stone, and a slicker brush. If I use the stone will that help with his transition? Also do you recommend I take him to the groomers? I feel like his sideburns are very long, but I’m afraid that if I take him to a cheap place they will razor too much. What do you recommend?
@TransgroomTV
@TransgroomTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Carolina, We are happy we can help & advice you. Is you Ami being sterilized or castrated ? Cause that can give a lot of wool. We definitely advice to use a stripping stone, that will help you in maintaining his coat and take out the wool. A professional groomer will help you on the way. Sometimes, it's a long road to find the best groomer for you and your dog. But I am sure, there are a lot of good groomers in the world that will groom your dog very nice .

Our cocker is 12 yrs old so her coat is getting thicker and it's harder to have a long grooming session. She ALWAYS gets tough mats in her armpits and inside her back legs. How would you recommend us dealing with those? It's so very hard to get to them!! She doesn't tolerate us lifting her legs much so it's just impossible to see the mats (though you can easily feel them) and you can't really get a brush in there. We had started having her armpits shaved, but I think it made it easier for MORE mats to occur. Do you have any advice??
@TransgroomTV
@TransgroomTV 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Tammy, sounds like a difficult situation for you and the dog! It can't be comfortable for him to have these matts. Keeping the coat short and brushing often is probably the best option. Shaving the matts out is the most comfortable way of dealing with them. We groomed a senior Cocker some time ago (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/icupdrlnsb6yYIU.html) We also cut the coat very short for maintenance. It is still important to do some CARDING! This way the dead hair, the wool, goes out of the coat and doesn't have the chance to tangle up in the other hairs. Kind regards

When I want to cut the hair on his paws, legs, buttocks and face, he gets stubborn, turns away and growls. Worst case, he pinches me. What can I do? I have seen so many grom videos. Hello Jamie, I would not recommend the stone for Labs. it would just not work , the hair it to short. On the other hand, for Goldens this is a perfect stone, to pull out the longer hairs , the hairs on the ears, and creating a natural model on the Golden. if you are looking for a tool shading , we can recommend this one: transgroom.com/en/products/show-tech-shed-stopper-large-deshedding-tool-for-dogs

I know this is an older video, but someone PLEASE help w advice on the nails. My dogs quick seems very long, so when I cut the nail it still doesn't seem short enough. Is there anything that can be done regarding the quick?
@TransgroomTV
@TransgroomTV 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Heather , yes some dogs when they get older the quick can be very long and I know that it must be very uncomfortable for the dog not to be walking on the pads but the nails are kind of in the way to walk normal. I would use the nail grinder and do this like weekly. The nail grinder is very easy in use and because it's quick rotation you can get really close to the quick without making the dogs nail bleed. transgroom.com/en/products?search=grinder good luck, I hope this helped you stay safe

Hi Kitty, thanks for another wonderful video!! I would like to ask if I may, to explain the difference between carding and stripping. I saw you work on him, but I am still confused. With carding, is it a combing motion? And how much hair do you feed through? Also, with stripping how much hair and what kind of hair (if there’s any type of difference) do you pull out? Can you explain the thumb position and quantity? I am sorry to ask for details, please forgive me. I am in grooming school now and it is not very explanatory, it was the only one in what’s available in my area. I fear it will not be a superior education, hence me watching and absorbing all your videos!!!! I want to learn and be a very good groomer! I tend to put my heart into everything I do and have made the transition from human clientele to pet grooming! I am very excited and love working with animals!! Thank you so much for making your videos available, I am grateful to supplement my schooling with artistry and real teaching!! God bless!!

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! We are always happy to help any groomer expand their knowledge and become the best groomer they can be! You should never apologize for wanting to learn more! We are currently posting a 5-part series on how to create a rolling coat on a Brussels Griffon, these videos are also all about stripping and carding. You can watch the first one here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b6qPbM6B1teycXk.html . You can also follow the process on our website: transgroom.com/en/news The difference between carding and stripping is: with carding you take most of the undercoat, the wool, out. These are hairs that grow in the same follicle as the top coat but have to come out. If there is too much undercoat in one follicle there won't be any place for the top coat to grow and the topcoat will get thinner, it will get another texture and lighter colour and it will not look good. The more undercoat you take out , the shinier the coat will be, the undercoat keeps the coat dull. For carding you place your stripping knife in a 45° angle and comb with the direction of the coat growth. When you strip, you strip away the topcoat. You do this so that the follicle has more space for new hair to grow. The new hair will break through the skin in about 4 weeks. With stripping you can create all kind of styles, you can leave an area longer or strip it shorter and so on. How much you strip and in which areas depends on the dog, the breed, and the type of coat (rolling coat or staged coat). I hope this answers your questions! If something it unclear, don't hesitate to ask!
