Great work with your Savannah. I breed Savannah monitors and have quite a few. I’ve been working with Savannah monitors for over 30 years now and they are easily one of my favorite monitor species. So if you ever need any pointers on care or breeding feel free to ask I’d love to help other have success with these amazing underrated monitors. Wish you all the best and hope your monitor is still doing great. 🙋‍♂️✌️

This video makes me miss my Savannah Monitor. Lil' dude was puppy tame and would sleep under my pillow. Unfortunately I was keeping reptiles in the 1990s and I really didn't know what I was doing when it came to good care because so few books and they all offered the same advice. I wish we had KZfaq back then. I can't bring myself to keep reptiles anymore because I don't think it would be fair to them given my history, LOL Thanks for the memories!

Hey I just found your channel and subscribed. And I’m dedicated to helping Savannah monitors and been working with them for over 25years now and absolutely love this species and from what I’ve watched on your channel your doing an amazing job 👌👏🏻 so I’ve got 3 clutches of eggs in the incubator now and one will be hatching very soon 🤞🏼and I’m looking to gift a few to dedicated Savannah monitor owners in the hope that they’ll breed them one day. My main goal is to stop the wild collection and egg farming of these amazing monitors. If your interested I’d love to give you one or two or if you know anyone that you trust I’d love to make more friends that are dedicated to helping this species and won’t be giving or selling any to people that don’t have experience with them. But I would also love to help anyone that needs any info about these guys like feeding, climate, breeding, and training. I do have few videos on here and Instagram so if you’re interested please let me know and definitely look forward to following your channel 🤘🏻

And they are between 5-7inches at the moment and all doing great and in perfect shape no missing toes or tail kinks just perfect lil babies and all really tame and inquisitive. But if your interested 100$ including shipping and I’d film the babies before hand or do a live stream so you can pick which baby you want. I keep a water bowl in with my baby. I can't tell the gender on account of my Monitor still being teeny and she's my first one. I refer to my Monitor as female because it feels right for now. She sits in her water bowl often and buries beneath the corkwood hides i have in there, she always leaves her upper half out to bask though so I see her all the time. In fact the only time i don't see her is 10 pm because that's the only time she fully burrows to go to sleep. I run the lights on 12 hrs as well from noon to midnight, if any of my animals show detriment due to my nocturnal life schedule i will change the light schedule and split my sleep schedule into shifts immediately but so far they seem to function none the worse for it. I dust insects 3× a week and I'm trying to establish colonies of Discoid roaches, african nightcrawlers, isopods, crickets, hornworms, silkworms, and mealworms and I'm working on devising gutloading diets for maximum nutrition. Crickets are the hardest so far, I might have found a solution in putting bowls of water with pebbles stacked to the brim to keep them from drowning themselves and feeding cucumber slices dusted in vitamin powders. When i find a way to get some land snails for breeding I'll be happy as a dog in a tub full of gravy.

I have a few questions that Ive been meaning to ask. I've had a Savannah monitor myself that I've had since August of 2019, and he's been doing really well for me. However, he's about 2 feet now and was wondering what size cage would suit him best? Also, would it be best to feed him a variety or just one kind of insect a lot? I've also found out that snails are their favorite food, or so I've heard.

We just got a baby savannah monitor, from what I've read (once full size)they need a rather large cage with 2 feet of substrate. I think the dimensions are 8 wide 4 feet deep and 4 feet tall. They can eat raw meat, fish, pinky mice/feeder mice once they are bigger, my baby eats meal worms wax worms crickets. They can also eat Dubai roaches

@@thekingofnothing8895 hey bud I’ve been working with and breeding Savannah monitors for over 25years now and a lot of the info out there is wrong I’d only go with about a foot of substate I mean the more the better but at a point it’s pointless, expensive and more work. And cage size for an adult should be no less than 4’wide 4’high and 6’ long bigger is better in this case. And food the bigger the variety the better I suggest a lil journal and write down what you feed and the date and quantity. I feed my babies everything basically as adults you need to keep a closer eye on what and how much food they get but babies you can give them basically as much as they are willing to eat but once over 2 1/2ft try and always keep the crease of skin along there stomachs so you can tell it’s not to fat or when they walk there belly shouldn’t be dragging on the ground. I give them super worms, dubias, mealworms basically all bugs are great 👍 then I do hard boiled eggs cut in slices, fuzzy mice always try and stay away from fur so pinky’s and fuzzies👍 they can’t digest fur so stay away from mice and rats unless there pinky’s or fuzzies, baby chickens, baby quail, quail eggs which they love, and that’s a diet that has worked amazing for me I’ve had my oldest Savannah reach 15 years old and you can always add other things like fish, frog legs from Asian markets usually has frog legs and most supermarkets have fish fillets but dang I can go on and on but if you have any other questions check my channel on here out or Instagram and also have email so message any time I’d love to help.👍🤘🏻

Mine just turned a year old in February, I rescued her at 2 months old, she's still very shy and I can't really hold her yet, she freaks out. Hopefully one day I'll earn her trust. She just started taking food from the tongs. She definitely hides for days at a time and I worry she isn't eating as much as she should. I give her crickets, meals worms, and small pieces of raw chicken. Can she eat fish? Like sockeye salmon, cod, or halibut?
@LadyReptile
@LadyReptile 3 жыл бұрын
It seems like your doing everything right to earn her trust! I’m not sure about the logistics of feeding raw fish. I’m sure it would be fine if it’s prepared right. Other things I’ve given my girl are raw chicken parts. Like liver, hearts etc. She also loves raw eggs (chicken eggs and quail eggs!).

If it’s not wanting to eat it’s most likely dehydrated or too cold. Check your temperatures. You can also soak the baby in some warm water (not too warm), just make sure it’s not too deep. Offer enticing foods, like crickets and worms. If it doesn’t improve, I’d take it to the vet for parasite treatment.

@LadyReptile
@LadyReptile 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, what are your temperatures like? It sounds to me like he may be too cold. Generally when they become sluggish like that it’s temperature related. It could also be parasites, depending on how he was bred (wild caught/farmed/captive/etc). I would check temps, if that doesn’t help do daily soaks in a tiny bit of warm water (not hot at all). This will help get him hydrated. I would also try liquified foods like raw egg, or cat food (with a calcium supplement) to get him eating. If all that fails, he may need to be checked and treated for parasites.

@@LadyReptile he was farm bred in Georgia, I have a 80w UVB bulb on him. It might not quiet be hot enough. His little platform for heat i can still touch without issue, so idk if it's over 100. But I ordered some reptaboost. I also notice. When I take him out and let him sit on me. He will just climb up my shirt and lay on my neck and play in my hair lol. So he does get sporadic moments where he gets active then goes back to being sleepy it appears.
@LadyReptile
@LadyReptile 3 жыл бұрын

They come from west africa Ghana where the soil surface is dry and crumbly, so they burrow to get to the more moist soil. They eat insects and African giant snails. They need an expanse amout of space. Even if we dedicated a whole room to them, they'd still be stunted.

If you want your monitor to be less squirmy, sit down and put her on your lap. She will feel safer. If you pet her or scratch her back she will doze off and let you do your video. Mine liked to perch on my chest and even my head when he was smaller. Now that he's big, he prefers sitting on my lap. Nice video! Replace rodents with shrimp. Less fat! Also if you run out of bugs, you can get earth worms. Mine loves them. Locate a good reptile vet for parasite checks or medical emergencies. Routine vet visits are way cheaper than dogs or cats since reptiles don't need shots. Physical $50, lab work $30. My daughter's dog went for a check up and shots, it cost her $500.
