I expect early on release it will be a bunch of them since no one knows what any of the projectile actually does so you can just randomly use it. But after that only a select few determined enough to memorise all optimal combination of spells can excel with him…at least I hope that’s the case

I'm a (casual) Pot main who really wants to play Asuka. Honestly, I enjoy labbing more than PvP, so Asuka looks like a fun time.

It actually reminds me of KH Chain of Memories deck system but with more decks.

Difference between hero and this guy is hero has to pull up a menu and you have to look at the menu and then either cancel it or scroll through and stand still while your scrolling to do it. With asuka he has 4 spells locked in and you shift between them. 3 different decks with a set of random spells that you lock in and you don’t have to go into a menu at all.

The chant into bookmark cancel makes it so that the risk is as minimal as possible. I don't think it'll be a big problem, especially once you get used to all of his spell cards and can tell what they are with just your peripheral vision

That's what I thought too.

I thought the same too until really paid attention, and yeah I don't think he's going to be that much like nine because of 3 details: You have a limited amount of spells in each deck (which you get randomly, unless actively working towards changing them to what you specifically need). You have a limited number of spells individually for each spell (like 3 of spell A and 2 of spell B) On top of it all you have to worry about the mana consumption, even if you don't memorize how much mana each spell costs you have to pay attention to avoid running too low. In general he's a very amazing concept, but I'm not sure that many people will gravitate towards in when compared to nine who had a few less things to juggle at the same time... also he ain't nearly as curvy 🤪

the decks are shuffled at random so you gotta believe in the heart of the cards

I personally think Asuka is gonna be what JackO was for season 1, I mean she currently is the most technical character in the game.

There are restrictions on which spells he can special cancel, and they're probably not fast enough recovery to get a low or overhead out after unless you were already close enough that they could've mashed and hit you.

@@twopunchman9598 how do you know that? Looks like every spell can be cancelled into regen mana or bookmark and those should be cancelleable with dashing or buttons, maybe even jumping

It´s like Ángel in KOF. Loved by most people, only played by a few specialists but always a delight to see being used at high level because of the crazy BS these type of characters can pull off. Not every character should be like this, but I would say every game needs at least one.

Yeah, at least here is the "on paper" complexity that a lot of doubters kept saying that Strive doesn't have. It already has this in its simpler characters like LK was saying in his Asuka video that a character like Baiken with simple tools still has a lot of complexity, and that the game still offers huge variety in situations(honestly, I don't think anyone above casual level would be playing the game if it didn't), but now with Asuka here's the complex moves, combinations, and crazy unique mechanics for the people who need it to be explicit.

@@gwen9939 i never understood any kind of hate surrounding strive,its objectively good and has proven so with so many newcomers feeling comfy with it.I'm a very casual player that loves fighting games and theres a difference in a game like this and DnF duel which to me personally didn't catch that charm (since it lacks motion inputs for example,just ruins the whole point of fighting games).The only players that hate strive are probably people that have nostalgia goggles stuck on them

​@@dorkyshark2911 A lot of haters seem more obsessed with things that are often just arbitrary barriers of entry into a game. Sure, variable getup timings, unique gatlings, air teching, game defying character mechanics, etc., have value(and the last one is still decently present), but there's a trade-off in how much value it actually brings to a game vs the burden put on the player to learn them, and I think developers looked at past games and said "how can we create similar experiences without relying on mechanics we've added only to built complexity", or like, maintain a variety in interesting situations with less distinct systems to prop it up, and imo Strive is a masterclass on how to do that. Both when it came to gimmicky characters like Xrd Bedman and Jack-O that go from oppressive to being pure knowledge checks to necessitating learning system mechanics like just defend to get out of certain common situations, are examples of of designs that were maybe more of burden to learn without providing a big payoff in interesting things they would bring to the table. "On paper" they add complexity, but is the complexity interesting? The changes to IB and IBFD makes it so much more interesting, and both harder to utilize and with more interesting use-cases to explore, and how Bedman and Jack-O got changed similarly reflect that I feel. I think there's value in both ways of designing a game(and why going back to those is still interesting), but there's a different equally valid approach that I think Strive represents.

And the crazy part is I PROMISE you none of those people are going to even try and touch this character 😂

Ya all are so wrong it's crazy. No one complains about different wake up timings. What we complain about is gutted move lists, gatlings and slow airdash. Small movelists are bad for an obvious reason, new gatlings are bad because they limit the combo variety for no reason, while slow airdash is bad because moving around is not as intuitive and also because zoners exist
