In an interview, Liza related that Judy would say to the kids that because they were the good people she’d raised them to be, that was proof that she was a good person. The most important legacy she wanted to leave was not her being a great actress or entertainer, but being a good person. It really points to the fact that most people back then thought that addiction was equivalent to someone being a bad person, someone who lacked character and morals. You have to wonder if she internalized that, at least to some degree. I don’t see how she couldn’t have. On the autobiography tapes she made, she stresses that she was a good mother, that she raised three kids with morals and standards and, essentially, that meant she was a decent human being. Sad, sad, sad.

I never knew about Judy Garland before this movie. then my fascination with her began. many thanks to all creators.
