I think it’s because the bigger the studios become the less they actually care about their movies being art , instead becoming more of a product, and so therefore the artistic process behind it just gets completely brushed off, which is unfortunate . I’m glad SPA has really stayed true to their roots and the minds behind it

Beginners are obsessed with software instead of learning how to draw and animate. Companies cant really return to this because animators have been discarded in favor of motion tweens. Software has only made animation worse due to complete ignorance.
@SAG10284 жыл бұрын
Dungo Frungus not in all cases, It has made things easier yes. However there are animators out there who have created awesome animation using classic techniques within software. Those who use tweens and rigs are either, going for a specific look, have a short deadline or are just plain lazy. I do think every animator should try animating traditionally even if it’s just once. Trust me, I’ve tried it and you will learn a lot. Flick and roll might be difficult at first and also figuring out the keys and breakdown numbers. However, once you get the hang of it it’s magic.

Disney failed because Disney began drinking their own Koolaide. They began following a cliche of themselves. And when they realized they had nothing new to offer they acquired Pixar to steal their look and methods of animation. Pixar is equally guilty of staying too fixed to their ethos, but they get away due to great focus on original stories. Disney rarely had any original stories. They built themselves off of fables and tales from around the globe. Not a bad business model but one that seldom see its artists truly being original. SPA studios (Klaus) takes the best etiquettes from such classic studios but then eliminating the shortcomings of both 3d and 2d animation. They maintain the amazing life of 2d animation and simulates the physical nature of 3d rendering but achieved in 2d. Animated versions of what was often achieved only in still drawings and illustrations.

Listen. I am a die hard Disney fan/ obsesser if you will, and this movie deserved at least 2 Oscars. I was so upset this lost to Toy Story. Yes Pixar has come a long way, but we expect them to get better. This is a completely original animation and story line! With all the lore around Christmas and Santa and the different traditions with each culture and country and state, I personally never heard of how letters to Santa became as essential as sleigh or reindeer or red coat. This has become a Christmas classic. It’s currently Dec 14, and I have at least seen this movie 18 already. Sometimes I put it on as background noise as I make cookies or gifts, and everytime I have watched this movie since it aired in 2018, I always get teary eyed even though I know all the lines, all the twists and turns, all the songs and this movie never fails to make me see magic.

Klaus is a fantastic movie and the character designs are great!!! SERIOUSLY, IT IS EXCELLENT. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the designs of so many of the characters. AMAZING, AMAZING WORK!!!!! They are so memorable, even all of the background towns people are wonderufl to look at! They can be drawn for ages!!! However 1:07 she is not memorably designed. Her features are way too petite and feminine, without giving her depth or reminding us of her personality. When comparing her face to the other townspeople, she looks almost nothing like the rest of the men and women in the movie. Her nose is absolutely tiny to be cute, meanwhile Jesper's nose is probably half the size of her face! The designs at the top are far more memorable, like that one of her with the broom - it gives the impression she is a little bit older, colder, and more frazzled. I wish you guys exaggerated more of her features instead of toning it down to make her look pretty much identical to the woman from 101 Dalmations or Megara from Hercules (both are characters whose faces do not truly connote personality besides 'cool and pretty'). There seems to be this awful fear of making women look funny, because the male gaze states that it should make them less attractive. Case in point: the Flintstones, where the women have absolutely tiny features while the men are allowed to have big silly noses etc. But this is so not good!!! "Hot" women should be allowed to have exaggerated features too. I absolutely love the way Olive Oyl from Popeye is designed - she's allowed to have a big funny nose and noodle limbs and still be a love interest. I wish you guys went a sillier, or more teacheresque route with her character instead of making her more generic. I brought this up during the movie and my family absolutely agreed with me. I hope you can inject more personality into future female character's designs!
@_kaleido4 жыл бұрын
I have to agree, it kinda struck me how while the rest of the village women had really distinctive, strong features, Alva was made to look ultra petite and delicate, almost to the point of being plain (kind of at odds with her strong, take-action personality). I still like her design in general though :)
@AvitalShtap4 жыл бұрын
@@_kaleido I'm glad it struck you too!! Her design is nice to look at but it does not fit her and it does not fit the rest of the movie! I wish they went crazier:)) I expected this reply to be all "I HATE YOU!!!" bc i am never this honest but i'm so so grateful you agree and know what i mean :D thanks!!
@bluejay96564 жыл бұрын
It could be that the designer wanted to differentiate her from the other villagers. After all, she isn't actually from there.
@AvitalShtap4 жыл бұрын
Blue Jay Huh! That actually never occurred to me! It would make sense. But, even so, it could have been a great excuse to differentiate her in other ways (maybe with other types of exaggerated features that other characters don't have). It turned into a great excuse to make her look more generic than everybody else lol. But you're right, that was probably the train of thought!
@Oecobius334 жыл бұрын
Hopefully they'll push things a little farther in their next projects. Animated films are a risky venture financially, and going outside the box with a really quirky female character would be another risk. But now that Klaus has made such an impression, I hope they have the freedom to get even more original in future work! I've found that women also seem to have a hard time relating to female characters who look really odd. A lot of female artists certainly prefer making their women cute or beautiful, too. That's another attitude that makes it hard for audiences to accept an unusual, more "flawed" looking design.

"Every drawing is a challenge", as the fellow said at the end of this video. I also heard from another animator "the better you draw, the easier it will be for you to animate, believe me". It's very interesting to me how CGI people who work at Disney (who like to put their life drawings up on Instagram) don't know how to draw very well. Their drawings clearly indicate that they've been spending much, much more time refining their computer skills over their drawing skills. If the Disney CGI people really cared about creating great films that are great works of art (instead of just creating relatively cheap cash grabs), first of all, they wouldn't have sold out their "artistic" skills to Disney, that is, if they really were artists in the first place. Second of all, they would have done what Glen Keane did or what the SPA studios people (you know, the creators of Klaus) did. Instead, they let their drawing skills lapse because they thought "oh, I'll just let the computers do everything". If all the CGI people in Hollywood want to do is work with computers, I believe there's quite a few places in Silicon Valley that would just love to employ their skills.
@Jhakaro4 жыл бұрын
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and many artists at Disney are still some of the best in the world. 3d animation is a different form of animation, it requires just as much effort if not more in many ways and has tons of sub disciplines within it's main category that can each take a lifetime to master. 3d is not easier nor is it worth less however it is not harder or better either. Two different art forms, both with their own pros and cons. If 3d was so bad, why on earth would they have tried to make 2d drawings look like 3d and use some 3d workarounds and pipelines? They wanted the best of both worlds and were pretty successful in their attempt. Nobody "sold out" their skill to Disney and trying to make out they're not "artists" is the most elitist, gatekeeping nonsense I've ever heard. Just stop. You have no idea what you're talking about.
