I appreciate you attempting to put a positive spin on that over priced hipster glamping gadget but there is a zero percent chance of that thing lasting past a month with med to hard use let alone if you had to put your physical well being in the hands of Klax. .....Merry Christmas to you and the family though brother!

I feel ya. I personally love the idea of these kinds of gadgets that try to do everything, but they dont have a patch on real tools. I recently bought a Spear and Jackson medium axe head off ebay thats been beating wood for 20 years and ended up in some grandads shed. Fifteen quid well spent .... and I get to save the other 150 quid for "multi-tools" haha

I thought the $140 for the axe head was hilarious until I saw the price for the handle. $30! Lmao! I could just buy a quality hatchet for $50 (including the handle) and pay a machinist $50 to cut the tools into the head.

there is a very good reason that ax heads are a one-piece steel construction and there is a very good reason they have a prominent wedge on them this is nothing more than a novelty and any real survivalist would throw this in the ditch after a week

I've got small pocket tools that do everything extra that this can.. and an actual axe where I don't have to worry about the head falling off after some chopping. Swing and a miss on this design.

Excellent video, Don! Wow, that particular $150 Battlebox is a bargain if it comes this highly engineered, $140 survival axe head. It would be interesting to see someone fashion a usable handle from found material, just as one might in a survival situation if one only had the axe head. It would also be interesting to see the Klecker Klax in action to make a complete survival shelter and process firewood for a full night out in the woods.

I've been looking at other versions of this concept for a couple years now. They looked a bit too gimmicky for the price. My Grandfather carried a tomahawk head for camping, that was the same idea - attach it to a length of wood in the field. It just didn't have the other bells and whistles.

Wow! After reading all the comments I would say that not many have used a light hatchet. Try the sog hatchet. It's light for packing but doesn't cot any better than this. I would say that this is a little pricey but does what it's supposed to for it's application.

I have seen this in a Kickstarter video while it seems like a great concept and it appears to be well engineered. I much would rather have a good boys axe or a good hatchet. Man attached a handle to the axe a few millennia ago, the Holy Grail has been to haft the handle to the head so it doesn't come off. I don't see how having a tool like this is better then a GFB, Council Tool, or Fiskars axe. If I am putting this in a B.O.B or a survival kit I would rather have a axe I don't have to worry about flying off the handle.

Sootch, I'm a long time subscriber to both channels and appreciate your videos. However I don't think I've ever seen a negative review. Not every piece of gear deserves a positive review. That thing looks like an overpriced piece of junk. Do you honestly believe that it is good advice to recommend your viewers to buy that thing instead of spending the money on a decent knife and hatchet that will actually perform? Wouldn't it be better to tell everyone that it's a neat gimmick but not a substitute for the proper tools? An objective opinion would be so much more valuable. Just say what everyone is thinking: "this thing looks neat but it's really an overpriced piece of crap".

I don’t know a real axe has some weight to help with the work. A tomahawk with a removable handle would be a better choice. But I would give it a b- because you could use a wedge and some use as a multi tool. And the name does suck.

Remains the dumbest piece of gear I’ve ever heard of. $130 for an axe head, that you have to either build your own handle or buy theirs (wtf?) because you might need a wrench or guy hook, so that’s totally worth having just an axe head that might fall off whatever handle you’re using. I’ll never understand how this made it past the first meeting, let alone into production. Sootch kicks ass, this tool just doesn’t.

@dimitrifortounis4787

Think this is a great idea but way overpriced especially here in the UK at £100+ at the lowest end. There are a few other alternatives that have a similar design but require lashing to a stick/handle. They are very overpriced too as the steel isn't anything special and that is without a handle. In all honesty it won't be long before chinese knock off versions of these are floating around for a fraction of the price. It's a shame because if the price was right I think a lot of people would be interested in one of these and get behind the company that came up with the concept. can't make up my mind if it is production cost or greed driving up the price. I could easily buy an exceptional and complete gransforsbruks or hultafors axe for the price of one of these without any messing around and you could trust it with your life. Not convinced that I could trust this. I could buy my fast hawk 3 times+ over and the weight saving wouldn't be much better. Can't quite figure out what could possibly make someone value one of these at this price vs a complete tried and tested exceptional axe design that works. Just doesn't make sense to me.
